That is an idea which adds a new machine to the game which is based around the mid-late game and should give your colony some way of getting more resources if you are running low on them.

I though about the "Neutronium Miner", since neutronium is somewhat of an infinite/indestructable kind of material, why not just use its "infinite" properties by just mining it for ever( literally for ever since it is unbreakable)

And i thought about it that way that it will:

  •  cost 2000 steel and 800 ceramic(because it is an insulator and also not used that often) to build
  •  require 2.5 kW constantly to start being useable
  •  need a duplicant to operate it
  •  need a duplicant with a job trait called "neutronium miner" (given by the seasonal miner job) which will give them access to operate the Neutronium Miner
  •  produce 1 random, about 5 - 15 kg, raw metal per operation cycle
  •  take up a time of 0.25 - 0.5 cycles (it is infinite but occupies one dupe for a long time in order to work)
  •  use a space of 4x3 and bellow it, every tile must be a neutronium tile
  •  overheat at 500 C°
  •  slowly, very slowly produce heat (i dont know how the heat dispersal is calculated but i would say it makes about 50% of a wheezewort at heat)
  •  make -50 decor in a 6 tile radius
  •  drop its mined ores at where the duplicant is operating it at 35°

And with that idea I wanted to make it possible to not destroy the whole astroid(by mining through it in order to get metals) or try to grind for a more way to get into dangerous rocketscience (since you have to get to the surface, seal everything with steel tiles etc.) by simply letting the dupes dig down instead and find a 4 tile wide neutronium plate (like these bellow geysers and vents) and the only risk would be that you let some heat from the astroids core(or even from lava, if you cant find a 4 tiles wide platform where to place the Neutronium Miner) get into your base.

Leave your opinions and feedbacks about this idea bellow.

Thanks for reading!

I first had a short doubt but this would be a good idea, actually. Though, first we need to know more on what Neutronium actually *is*, depending on what the devs say.

Perhaps the material you dig from it will have some new sort of bacteria that you have to kill with some sort of weird sterilization proccess.

yes i allready mentioned that the reason for why this "miner" would be usefull is because of the dangers which await you when you open up the top layer of your astroid you will be vurnerable to meteor strikes, great damages, high temperature changes and even loss of certain gasses.

Not really a problem. Maybe one or two panels to repairs. But nothing we can't handle very easely. ;)

Adding another way to get infinite metal ore would break the interest of travelling through space. At least for metals. ;)

The 'digging in neutronium' could just yield a new late-game resource, like pulverized neutronium to make into something

Pulverized Neutronium sounds great. Maybe it could also be used as a burning heating material, by mixing it with steel and plastic grinded dust ? Im praying for fire in 2019 :)

In another topic, I think I see Sasza22 suggest to had a metal with low thermal properties. So with this neutronium powder, we could make alliage with another metal (maybe iron, because we have inifite source from space :p) to create "stasium", a metal with low conductivity and low heat capacity.
