Question about treating sick duplicant

Recommended Posts

So, as part of the Expression Upgrade, I had the "luck" of having a duplicant infected by Slimelung (and it went fast - losing 35% per cycle!). Normally, on a map previous this upgrade, I have my food on the bottom of my base so it is inside Carbon Dioxide while my medbay is at the top so it can have good oxygen.

But now, with the "break time" where everyone try to eat, pee, have fun, etc., combined with the fact that sick duplicants are slower (losing athletics), they no longer reach food in time before the break is over, meaning they starve to death.

I wonder if it is the expected behavior there at all or if someone else have seen this already. Honestly, I would like to avoid having food stored near sick duplicants since they sneeze all the time. With automation, it could be done easily but I am at cycle 35 so I do not have that ready (and I am far from it in term of jobs!) so I am wondering what can be done here to adress this issue and avoid sick people starving to death.

I can also provide the save file if needed, in case people want to try things :)

you can limit the quantity of the food box down to as low as youd like. that way its not a storage box for food just the sick dupes food.

if its set up in a med bay room , with food in it the sick dupe wont even leave the room

The problem with that is we must make sure that only the sick dupe can eat it. The only way I can see this is to have this food be of a specific type and then manually set the sick dupe to be able to eat it.

For example, maybe sick dupe is the only one to be able to eat bristle berry or omelette while the others must eat mush bar. You can almost wish to be sick then :)

I never said that my base is not having issues :)

This is what I love about this game: It is hard to have a perfect setup and easy to screw things up.

One thing I just saw though: Normally duplicant in the medbay does not leave. Now they do to enjoy the break phase, sneezing on everyone along the way! Yuck!

Use the doors to lock them in. But I think this update is a bit experimental at this time. For example, dupes will pee themselves right next to a working and free lavatory when the time is not right.

Here's an easy solution - lock the med bay for everyone except the sick and the caregivers. Or, if you can lock the food in the medbay - do it - allow only the sick dupe access through doors to the food container that has his type of mush bar - the mush injection!

You cannot do this directly since you need someone who can go and fill the storage for the sick dupe to eat. Without automation I mean, since I am early in my base development. With automation, it is much more easier to do.

You can fill it in advance using only the caregivers that have access anyways(they take the patient's temperature and care for him, speeding the recovery process, right?) and keep the food container in CO2 so food doesn't spoil - that way the Mush injection is ready at any time. You still give access to the caregivers to steal the food, but ... hey, maybe you can place them on a better diet and reserve mushbars only for the patients.
