How far out are the geysers generally?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Havent played for a while so im discovering all the changes while i play.

One thing im wondering though is generally how far out do you need to dig to find geysers?

i've gone about a biome out in each direction (so i can see into the one after it) and nothing, are they rarer now? am i unlucky? or do i just need to keep going?

Will they be in the open or hidden under blocks?

My current world (world seed 349205) had 4 geysers basically right next the edges of the starting biome, both open and hidden ones. So presumably they can be at any distance outside of the starting biome.

Search for their neutronium base (quite well visible in the temperature overlay).

The bigger the map is, the more far away geysers are from each other. The default size is 256*384.

Usually, geysers have the highest density in the oil biome, because oil biome is the smallest biome. And lowest density in frozen biome, because lowest geysers number.

Geysers can spawn anywhere except the starting biome. They very rarely spawn within 20-50 blocks of each other, and I've never seen more than 2 per biome.

Only cool steam, natural gas, and chlorine geysers will spawn uncovered and obvious. All other geysers will spawn completely buried with a 1x4 base of neutronium.

One way of identifying hidden geysers is to uncover the Fog of War from an area, then view the priorities overlay. The geysers will always show a priority icon of 5, with chunks of obsidian and granite surrounding the neutronium base. Viewing the thermal overlay doesn't always help, as the neutronium spawns with the same temperature color as the surrounding material.

Be very careful uncovering an unknown geyser, as some put out MASSIVE amounts of materials, such as the polluted water geyser, or puts out insane amounts of thermal energy, such as all of the volcanos.

@R9MX4 I'd been using this png as a reference since I last saw you post it - but mind if I ask how you found the figures for the rate ?

I've had a few metal geysers that have output ~580-600kg per cycle - so wasn't sure if I was reading it wrong or just being derpy :D

By decoding the game, fitting the code with game, and doing some brain storm.

:shock:Would you mind sharing your save file? My understanding of the code might be wrong. If you have opposite examples, they would be a great help to me.

I just remember that I've made a new sheet few days ago, but I always forget to upload it. I tried to make it clearer than the old one. Would you mind have a look and calculate your geysers again?

@R9MX4 Think you answered my question above with :

"The Daily Eruption showing in the sheet means the average daily yield in the whole eruption idle period (or active part in Active Dormancy Period)."

So for example I spawned a load in and this one :

Was technically outputting 525.4kg per eruption - but as it's every 1077 seconds over a period of 71 seconds, if you averaged it per cycle it'd be near half that I guess.

7.4*71/1077*600=292.7, 292.7 kg/cycle,it matches my sheet.:D

@R9MX4 How do you figure out the daily eruption? As I have seen Kasuha who has a 20kg/s base cool steam vent.

I upload my pic again. It shows how to calculate the Daily Eruption and Active Percent.

If you have a cool steam with the biggest daily eruption and the smallest Eruption Percent, the emit rate in game would exceed 40kg/s.
