Setting priority on research stations, outhouses, etc

Recommended Posts

If I set a constructed research station to have a priority of 9, does that make it so that dupes with research enabled consider it their most import task, or does it just make them prefer that station to any others?  Similarly, if an outhouse is set to priority 9, does it make resupplying it with dirt  the most import task to any dupe which can do supply, make it the most import supply task in the colony without making it more important than dig/care/etc tasks, or does it just make it the favorite outhouse of the dupes?

If you don't change the research job so that only researches should do it, setting it to 9 is going to make all the dupes try to do that first.  Same thing for the outhouse - if anyone has the supply job, they will try to take care of that first.  I usually set both of those things to 6 and set the research job so that only the research hat dups can do it.

So if only my designated researcher has researching enabled, but she also has digging enabled, setting the research station to priority 6 will  make her ignore priority 5 digging tasks, but she'll still do priority 7 digging over research?

only dupes enabled in the job section will do that job

dupes will follow priority if you want to finish your research fast, make it 9

Yes.

I find that in general. It is best to leave the priorities at standard and only change to higher in an emergency. Putting priorities on buildings to a large extend usually creates more problems than it solves.

Rather just make one of your duplicants a researcher and only allow that person to do research. He/she should be spending most time there, as long as you have not gone fiddling with priorities for all other buildings.

One thing that do annoy me with the new priority system thought is that repair and de- construct does not seem to have an inherit higher priority anymore. They used to prioritize those tasks. I thought that was a good thing...

I strongly advise against using priority 9 for anything other than emergencies.  If you entombed dupe dies because your dupe was too busy cleaning an outhouse to dig them you're going to feel like you walked into an avoidable disaster.

i use 9 on greenhouse, outhouse (to prevent morbs early game), and sometimes research, yet no one dies due to entombment because those station with highest priority are entitled only to those who can do the job, i only set the farmers to atleast 2 dupes and 1 dupe on research so if i have 10 dupes i would still have 7 dupes free for digging, building, etc and that encludes helping other dupes who are "entombed"
so its just a matter on how you "manage" your dupes job/tasks
