Neotuck
I wanted to see of I could fully automate the steam turbine so I ran some experiments in debug mode. My idea was to heat the steam direct from the lava biome. I thought It would be a source of unlimited heat. I was able to loop the steam in the picture shown using automated doors to keep the steam flowing. I also use doors set with a clock to connect it with the magma so it wasn't constantly being over heated. The design worked great and I have been running it on super speed for a long time with no input from me or dupes. UNFORTUNATELY it is not limitless. Turns out the magma is slowly but steady cooling even though it's in the lava biome. In the next two pictures I checked the temp of one box of magma and after 26 cycles it dropped 1 degree per cycle. So close to being unlimited but not close enough Only good thing about this is it uses no power or dupes to run Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/87466-my-steam-turbine-design/ Share on other sites
saltyteabag
Pretty cool build. I was thinking of doing something similar, but in the maps I've generated, the majority of the magma is locked away below neutronium. Maybe they should consider replacing some of that neutronium with abyssalite so the magma can be a bit more useful. You can however dig through neutronium in debug mode. Obviously you can't do that in a real game. How much you wanna bet that the next patch makes that either possible or that it creates a no-need scenario ? They did say that they will change how the turbine will be used with the next patch. That they said on stream, the stream that was released when OU was released into public domain. Yeah, although I would consider blowing away neutronium like that to be a perfectly reasonable use of debug mode, since magma is the only way to power the steam turbine now. It's just never going to be worth it to build with 2KW output. 8KW maybe, and only if boosted by power station. Falcahtas
Vaporizing oil is a better use for magma, even if the gas does require a lot of cooling. Saturnus
@Neotuck Would you mind sharing an automation layout? Kabrute
So the massive heat deletion in the steam turbine is caused by the tepidizer fix, I found the segment that points to the reference call, so really the turbine actually doesn't remove the heat its being driven down by base overheat temp of the structure oh god thats horrendous, why would anyone use an override to set a bypass overheat o.o Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/87466-my-steam-turbine-design/#findComment-1002989 Share on other sites

I've experimented lately with having doors at the beginning being closed for longer so they get up to 4 closed down and then accelerated opening to accelerate the gas flow through the compressor. Saturnus
9 minutes ago, Neotuck said: I was worried if I went too fast I would be deleting gas 2 seconds are pretty much the fastest you can close doors. And it's actually a fraction too fast when not on ultraspeed. It deletes a tiny bit of gas. You can't push gases faster than that. But I leave the first doors closed for a few seconds longer. So for example I leave the first door closed for 6 seconds, next for 5 seconds and so on until you catch up at the last one of the line. That way you can suck the gases through faster than you can push them because there's no problem with gas deletion opening the doors, just with closing them. Teremok322
Im do somthing like it, but i do process more faster. I just used a looped signal. And the signal goes through 3 stages. You can look how it work right here. I add the save for example, gif is old version. Version In save is better. To make the turbine work, you need a difference in pressure. Initially, I also thought that the flow was needed, but in reality only difference is important. don't look at the numbers of the turbine, I was playing with the game engine oh im forgot the save генератор на дверях.sav Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/87466-my-steam-turbine-design/#findComment-1003002 Share on other sites

Funny enought...if you look into debug mode you can actually find something similar to uranium...maybe in the future we'll have nuclear reactors that output a ton of heat, which we could use to boil water and power the steam turbine...which could be interesting Or we could just do the oil to natural gas thing...honestly I see that as a more interesting alternative.
