My steam turbine design

Funny enought...if you look into debug mode you can actually find something similar to uranium...maybe in the future we'll have nuclear reactors that output a ton of heat, which we could use to boil water and power the steam turbine...which could be interesting

If a hatch eats uranium and bites a dupe afterwards he totally should turn to hatchman. Eating only rocks, pooping coal but get stuck in doors ;D

But seriously I too think this is how they will implement the steam gen to be really usable

This no longer works after the release, now the turbines need 251 degrees Celsius for operation. Steam does not warm up anything except lava. All heaters can not give above 175, they break. Try it =)

and i do some fun version of the turbine

but now, its not work

Sorry, only just saw this - I did an updated build on the day they changed the temperatures - it's linked in the above video that @vernemovery kindly shared.

This one has been working without issue for about 150 cycles now - just needs the magma/igneous swapping out every 20/25 cyclesish

Still agree that until either it get's a power output tweak to maybe 6 or 8kw that it's kind of super-boredom-lategame build territory (i.e. you'll only build one when you have absolutely nothing left to do) but they do work in theory :D

It would have been great at 2kw before they introduced the "too cold" mechanic, but maybe way too easy.

In one of my fun debug builds of 'why the hell not' in my quest for a super efficient petro to natural gas converter.  I was able to siphon off some heat from the machine to partially power a steam turbine.  Of course, the thing only runs maybe 3 times a cycle for 20 seconds, but works!  :D  It's basically free energy anyway since the phase change of petro to natural gas ends up creating 25% more heat then what the magma puts into it.  Of course, the machine already creates around 500 G/s of natural gas... sooo not sure why you'd even bother added a steam turbine with that amount of natural gas being made.  So yeah, totally impractical but fun to tinker with!
