Well it was dead for well over a month...I'd consider it necro'd.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Usually the problem with necros is that it brings back topics that aren't relevant anymore that were discussed by users who might not be active anymore.

This topic is still relevant as Klei hasn't said anything on the matter and it's not old enough for most of the users who discussed it to be gone.

Though we're going a bit off-topic here...

It wasn't really necro'd, that'd be for a year old thread or longer

Three months after the last reply the topic is archived, it's not possible to necro a thread that's a year old

It´s not about being available all the time, it´s about the event repeating here and there.

Also, I really mean no offense, but feeling special for playing a game during a certain period of time comes off as rather silly.

Now, don't get me wrong, I want The Forge or a Forge derivative to eventually come back, but that's not what this topic is asking. This topic is about access to specific skins. So yes. I will gladly indulge in "feeling special", because this isn't just a matter of playing DST during a certain time period with the occasional candy cane or gingerbread cookie dropping from mobs. Forge was a completely different game. COMPLETELY. An entire meta culture was built around it an everything. The skins are a hat tilt to those who experienced that and are almost completely meaningless if they're not honored in that way.

If none of this matters to you, and people are just getting too "silly" about their "special" little cosmetics, then why do you even care about cosmetics?

Yeah, that's for the threads created now. For some reason threads created before the archive system are still up after years and can be necro'd.

Fair enough.

Yeah, no. Vastly different? Sure, why not. COMPLETELY? Not at all. The combat, which was the focus for the Forge, barely changed from the base game. We got special skills for weapons, passive skills for each character and that´s pretty much it. Not complainning, though.

Or, you know, those who couldn´t care less about the event and just bough them. A minority, maybe, but there´s that too.

Cosmetics are nice. You choose some that you think look neat and use them in characters you like. Nothing wrong about that. Not wanting someone else to have the same cosmetic as you because "they weren´t there, they didn´t experience it" is silly, IMHO. The experience itself should be the reward. As far as I care, every cosmetic should be earnable by playing and buying.

What? Did you even play The Forge? The animations and cosmetics were widely recycled, and you still used the F key to attack by default. That's just about the only similarity between the base game and Forge. Sanity and hunger, the cornerstone of the game's mechanics, weren't even present. There wasn't even a crafting system. Forge was a different game with different damage values, different properties to headgear, no durability to armor, completely different character attributes, no food, no consumables of any kind, no day/night cycle, no environmental hazards, no procedural generation, radically different sized maps, completely different theme and lore, none of the mobs in the forge exist in either Don't Starve or Don't Starve Together so not even the kiting patterns exist, it featured a completely revamped targeting system, and forge called for team compositions that don't exist in the base game and had completely different items that flirted with synergies that have no Don't Starve analogues. A good forge player could starve in the wilderness day 8 in the fall, while someone building ruins bases as Wes on day 4 could get wrecked in the Forge with the perfect team composition before they even got to the living staff because there's almost 0 interchangeability of the player's skillset between the "modes", because they're different games.

The thing you gotta grasp here: It's not about depriving you of a hat you want or whatever. It's about giving meaning and value to these items. And yes, people can just buy the cosmetics, and yes, that's bad for the value of the item, but this is a necessary transgression so that the devs can survive Don't Starve IRL. And again I'd like to emphasize that like you I am missing out on a whole load of crap that I really really want. This isn't about me wanting to deprive anyone of anything, and there is nothing humble about your opinion.

If I could get Forge skins any time of the year, I wouldn't have contributed as much time to The Forge as I did, and a LOT of people feel this way. It helps the community take these events seriously. I would've played the forge for 30 minutes, went, "this is kind of stupid" and never played again, but because I stuck with it I found out just how beautifully subtle the Forge was in its design, I learned the metas and contributed to the metas thanks in part to the cosmetic incentive, and once I did, I started to really have fun and appreciate the Forge for the masterpiece it was, which was significantly different than the 'hold F' simulator cluster **** that it initially seemed like.

I never said I´m missing out on anything. That´s not to say I´m not, although I don´t care much.

Here´s a non-humble opinion for you, buddy: Agree to disagree. *shrugs*
