A few Suggestions from Hydrogen Gas to How pumps pump it!

Recommended Posts

Hey! love the game so far, only things I would change are as follows:

Hydrogen Gas + Oxygen Gas = Water (Hydrogen LOVES Oxygen, and it always is looking to bond, so it doesn't make sense when Hydrogen gas and Oxygen gas just kinda float around each other like "Hey hows it going?" Rather than bonding) Maybe have it form clouds of rain? Or maybe it just starts to condense on the ground below. Either way, it kinda bothers me that it doesn't.

Coal Generator has no option to attach a vent to it to remove CO2 before it gets let into the air.  (It would be nice if I could choose to attach a vent to the generator's top and make the CO2 produced from it go straight into another machine or go someplace else.) Maybe add a hookup but if you don't hook it up it just goes as normal? It would just be nice rather than me having to put a air pump beside it to stop spreading the CO2! Which brings me to the next point!

Gases don't move fast... they need to go a little faster!     (Air Pumps (sorry if I got the name wrong, I can't remember) create vacuums of no air when air is right beside it... I feel like gases don't move fast enough in the game, and it slows all my machines down to the point where a hydrogen generator is hardly worth it, and CO2 cleaners create vacuums somehow! O.o

Pumps pump more water at a time.   Just a little more than what it is. I think right now its 10, but maybe you could make it 15 or 25? Right now pumps are so slow and the people pump faster with their little guns than a giant machine does! it doesn't make sense! Please change this?

Mopping without destroying the water?   It would just be nice if, when they mop up water or whatever, if they would automatically bottle it or move it to a purifier/storage. I hate it when I spill water when I dig and the pumps can't pick it all up... Speaking of...

Make pumps draw water connected to water its pumping to it!     It would be great if the pumps would pull in water thats in the same body of water to it so I don't have to make a lot of them or mop up afterwards... it wastes water, time, and my patience >.<

If any of these are wrong, and they don't do it in the game, I am sorry, my game may be bugged. But if everyone has these thoughts too, then I hope you guys take these to mind :3

Thank you very much!

Yes it does make sense. Combustion requires three things, not two: fuel (the hydrogen), oxygen, and HEAT. You need enough heat to achieve the activation energy of the reaction, or it won't happen. The same reason your gas stove requires a sparker or a match to light the gas. IIRC, the activation energy for hydrogen combustion is about 500 degrees C. At room temp, nothing happens (although machines like the supercomputer etc. create sparks!)

Huh? Do not understand what you mean by this one.

(The other suggestions are all great btw)

Well there are the following problems.

1. By forming clouds or condense on the ground your colony will get flooded because gas pumps are working really bad so no one is pumping their Hydrogen away from their base. so far if I am right the only reason gas pumps are being used is to convert Contaminated oxygen into Liquid oxygen.

2. Coal Generator is intended to work like this to give the player an obstacle to deal with having a gas output would look like this for every player in every game: Coal generator gas output into Hydrogen Generator. and all the Carbon dioxide is gone. nothing to worry about. this would make Coal generators way to broken.

3. Yes totally agree. Gas pumps should suck air from a 2x2 tile set just as their size and not from 1.

4. why would you need to pump more than 10kg of water? this is already more than people actually want to use. you also pump 10Kg/s which plenty of water to keep everything fine. your dupes just pump 1Kg of water and it is only used for research or mush bars. the Oxygen generator that requires water just needs 1Kg/s to operate. and all the other stuff also needs less than 10KG water.

5. we don't have anything to store water right now. and we can't turn bottled water into water back so it's not really usefull. also if the pump can't. get the water your dupes will anyway if you use it for research or mush bars it doesn't matter.

6.  those last drops of water won't really help anyways. if im right the pump doesn't  pump water if it is less than 10KG so you most likely lose around 10-50KG of water which has A: no use for you in the late game anyway since most researchers are done around cycles 30. and B: you get your foods from the mealwood plants. so as long this problem doesn't occur early on which I assume dosn't happen to player unless they are new to the game no one really minds mopping it away.

At present there's next to no use to bottled things (even bottled gases), they only have use for bottled (clean) water AFAIK. We need a building similar to the storage compactor where they could put these bottles. One for liquids, one for gases, each with an output where the contents of the bottle appears. Or in worse case it could just spill the water/gas around, with the point being that dupes deliver them to defined place. And like for the storage box, you could set up which bottles will they empty to it. Only when these are in game, there's point in bottling whatever they mop.

@SirLickandStick, great picture.  From what I understand, water acts a bit funky because of the process the devs use (which, IMO, seems to have it act like a mixture of gas, water and... balloons), but perhaps that can be adjusted down the road to a more... liquidy state.  This is also why ONI water does not like to flow down or through a one block high tunnel.

sankai: you need to have a filter before your gen, just hydrogen is allowed to go inside, everything else will break it (with new update)

to OP: most of your suggestions are like asking for easy mode, but i understand the need for haste, when you're pumping whole bodies of water slowly dripping.. can be frustrating..

about hydrogen and oxygen: Crimeo explained it very well i think..

The new update makes for water to be plentiful, so most of what I've said isn't easy mode, it would actually make it harder lol

If mopping and such wouldn't get rid of the water, flooding would actually be a way to die, rather than just swimming in everything you need to live.

Lightning, clouds, and all that would make it even harder, as pumping hydrogen would have to happen fast or your base could be in trouble.

Its all just ideas that sounded fun or entertaining to see. This game seems less interested in making it hard as hell as it is just surviving, managing and having fun while you do it! Thats why I love this game so much, so far at least lol (hopefully it keeps)

I believe I understood (and loved) everything but this

Water needs to move more as well as gas.

It seems to me that the problem is not the physics of the liquids but rather how the game presents them. Like PickPay said globs of water like these can usually be measured in grams, which means that they are actually only a millimeter high. On that scale you would expect water to behave like this, but the game does a bad job of showing that.
