FTR Posted December 21, 2016 Share Posted December 21, 2016 I find this argument really funny and redundant. - Fixing votes would help all types of servers, dedicated, hosted, servers with or without admin - Most servers are not - in fact, actively moderated by anyone 24/7 - Not everyone want to play on non-official server - Your own hosted servers do not fill up as quickly as official servers (not even close) And last - I think the main rule should be that good system should not require ANY moderation (and this applies to any aspect of life, mechanism, computing, literally everything), good system is system that takes care of things automatically, without human intervention. And if that's not enough, players should have all tools neccessary to combat griefing while griefing itself should be made as hard as possible. This argument is like saying farmers shouldn't use anti-pest chemicals but instead take care of it manually. It would work only on tiny piece of farm, everything else will be destroyed. What you telling people is to move into this tiny piece of farm and live there, and let the rest of the area rot. But, although the average person is decent, you will always, always, ALWAYS find horrible jerkbags in any even slightly medium-sized group no matter what, so the servers DO need moderation and there's no way we can _force_ them to be moderated 24/7! And software good enough to be able to make all the judgement calls a human being could for any situation that comes up would very hard to code. Not to mention Klei currently has a lot of other stuff they're doing, what with the whole "A New Reign" thing and _also_ Oxygen Not Included and Hot Lava. In other words, it's not perfect and the things that would be needed to _make_ it perfect are kind of unfeasible at the moment, so right NOW the only real solution actually, truly IS: Host your own server. That way you _know_ it's got an admin, and servers with human admins in charge CAN'T be auto-shut-down by idiot griefers! _And_--bonus!--you can customise the world however you want and use only the mods YOU like (if any). Yeah. It sucks. I know. I'm not saying it's the PERFECT solution. I'm saying it's _a_ solution. You want griefers to not be able to vote-kick people, for now the only solution is to _make sure there's a freaking human brain in charge_. Doesn't have to be yours. It could be your friend's instead. But unmoderated Internet ANYthings are and always will be absolute cesspits of awfulness, because unless you absolutely chain them down, gag them and threaten them with _death_, jerks WILL be jerks. And if the rules _are_ that strict? The determined ones will STILL find a way around! It sucks, but it's a dead certainty. In short: You absolutely CANNOT trust people to play nice when they KNOW that "Mommy" isn't there! That's all it is. The second teacher's out of the room, out come the spitballs. You know it. I know it. We all know it. Software that is flexible enough to handle whatever situations come up, no matter how varied, like a human could would be _nice_, but would be hard to make. Staff hired just to be admins on the official servers 24/7 would cost lots of money. And believe you me, Klei KNOWS about this problem by now and how upset we are. I imagine trying to revamp the voting system into something fair but un-exploitable would be kind of a difficult balancing act! Not to mention the software end. So for now...I'm sorry, but _only play on servers that have admins_. Tweaks that would take less time to be implemented than creation of one skin. - cooldown between votes - showing who started vote - not being able to dodge vote kick by leaving - remove regenerate world option - not allowing fresh spawns to vote That would solve most (and the worst) forms of griefs. I say just remove the stupid voting system, I liked it better when people complained about torches more than this. Besides, at least if this system was gone I would no longer be at risk of being griefed from literally anywhere at anytime and I can actually hide if i feel my pixels are threatened. Electroely Posted December 21, 2016 Share Posted December 21, 2016 A 5 day timer (about an hour and a half) for votes is more than enough to stop vote abuse. I really just hope Klei adds this timer. I'm sure then it can't be exploited that easily. Correct me if I'm wrong.
