Ocuvigil is not working?

Recommended Posts

Make a friend drop an ocuvigil in a black zone of your map.

The ocuvigil reveals everything. Structures and prefabs with a minimap icon, and players.

It reveals a circle around itself, very much like how the player reveals a circle around him.

However, it doesn't exactly lift the fog of war like the player does.

The thing is that the ocuvigil reveals new stuff (stuff without the maprevealable component) every 5 seconds. So something can disappear from near the ocuvigil, and you may actually find out 5 seconds later.

The things that do have the maprevealable component will update every 1.5 seconds, searching for something that can reveal them (stuff with the maprevealer component, like the ocuvigil). Only players and Chester and Hutch have this. Once the maprevealable finds something that can reveal it, they stay revealed (they update the icon position every simulation tick), until they find out they aren't near a maprevealer (and this is in the periodic 1.5 second check) and then they stop showing.

So yeah, in practice, everything.

So then crafting Ocuvigil doesn't have much of a point; just craft a moonlens and that's it, cause why make the ocuvigil, really? V('^')V

I mean people would anyway because it looks pretty(aka why Potted Ferns are a thing).

But yeah it feels too weak for what it is.

For what it is, I wouldn't say so, but in comparison to just Moonlens it is. Although, it's just added 2 boards and a compass... Well, THAT and the fact that it needs to be a yellow gem placed inside the dead moon pool.

"what it is" what it is a yellow gem(ruins tier, ruins are hard, the gems are worth it for quite a few things, so why waste em on an ocuvigil), moon lens(moon rocks are still rare, aren't they?) and boards. When you could settle down for just moon lens and a common gem for the same effect.

1) The ocuvigil refreshes the area around which it is placed. I don't think it's that great either, but it's pretty good griefer protection since it reveals players around it and updates the map around it. This way no one has a doubt that someone else is a griefer in a public server.

2) Nah, the moon rocks seemed to be a lot more common in the beta. I made like 3 cratered moonrocks in the first autumn.

3) A moon lens + gem does do its job pretty well, but it doesn't keep your map updated. I think the moon lenses are better suited to just point out anything of interest in the world (pk, mactusk, ruins, etc.) since it can be moved easily, while the ocuvigil is a straight upgrade to that by offering slight protection to your base and shows who is in base lazing around.

1) good enough. Radius is too small i feel though.

2) Oooh that's great.

3) Wait how does this protect?

It's not direct protection, but it shows players and updates the map every 5 seconds. So if you see a Wilson waltz into base and your structures gone 5 seconds later, it's pretty obvious what happened so you know without a shadow of a doubt who to kick.

EDIT: I realized I already stated that in my 1st point whoops.
