Now i avoid doing things making the game way harder or way easier, but i will do changes for functionality to keep the game fun. Example we run out of rocks a lot. I used to spend whole seasons in caves to keep the resources up but then we wouldnt play together with my friends, so whats the point. Therefore i made more meteors. Or we hate summer so we put it short Do you do those kind of things? Sometimes you will have to adapt a thing or two, for example when playing with new players, or a bigger public server (where resources are depleted more quickly). There is nothing "illegitimate" about that. Or you add some stuff to keep things interesting for players that have more experience. I tend not to mess with season lengths anymore, though. I have noticed that experienced players really hate that. Or spawn set to plus, which increases the difficulty rate when it comes to mobs. I prefer to pick worlds with different servers. Why? One, for the challenge. Two, because it means the admin actually took their time to review them. Of course, people can make some pretty stupid decisions like setting Hounds to none or so, But still. If there is a way to do custom setting in game, then why the hell would you avoid it? If it's Lights out we're talking about, you're missing out on a lot of things because it's premanent night as it isn't just the complete darkness that is the change: * Pig King sleeps forever. So you can only get renewable gold from earthquakes. Which in the case of not having caves enabled means no renewable gold at all. And means that to get rid of trinkets, you would need to feed them to lureplant... Such a waste, don't you think? * No birds ever fly down, meaning no eggs, meaning a lot of other stuff that can't be obtained because of this (e.g. bacon and eggs, pierogis, Bird of the World, anything that requires a feather to craft). Also, birds typically bring down things like Twigs and Flint for players who have recently joined, so that's a tad bit problematic. * Pigskin can only be renewably obtained if you've built a flingomatic and then burn a pig house to get the pig out and then kill it/feed it monster meat. * Rabbits become permanently non-renewable (or become extremely scarse if they get renewed by the world). It's like the rabbit holes are forever collapsed. * Say goodbye to using red caps as filler and green caps for sanity (though say hello to all-time harvestable blue caps) cause to get and use these, you'd need to dig them up since day and dusk doesn't exist hence making them either non-renewable or rarely usable as regeneration of each resource isn't that fast, as far as I know. * If you don't have caves enabled, it's even worse in terms of light sources; no lanterns and no moggles means that your only portable light source will be Lavae and torches as Miner hats could only be used for a while before you run out of fireflies. Having permanent night can also mean people collecting fireflies because it's something you'd obviously consider seeing that it's permanent night as a newbie and so fireflies with either deplete from being used as miner hat fuel or you will end up with a bunch of 0% miner hats, never to be used again in the game after a certain point. You can do this a lot more frequently with catcoons than you can summon Krampus, but otherwise you're right. You would have to do this around a 1,000 times on average to get a bird. (more hounds and frog rain or one of the giants its normally what i do) This makes it so you don't really make it easier or harder, but it is still optimal for you and people you play with. But my point was that you can do this a few times in a row with a catcoon, to make him spit out stuff repeatedly. You can "feed" him like 10 birchnuts in a row to get 10 gifts in return. Unless you kill Glommer, you can't even summon Krampus once in that time.
