You can probably pull off doing a bit of both, if you like. Personally I would advise against drawing anime just because other people like it. Do what you want first and foremost.

The western comic art style is more realistic, compared to anime. Especially in terms of faces, so if you want to do western-style stuff, you may have trouble making eyes smaller and faces less round. I'd recommend Line of Action to help with more realistic proportions.

Secondly I'd recommend that you set up your internet routine so that you see A LOT of the kind of art you want to see. If you have Twitter, Instagram, or ArtStation, make sure to follow a lot of artists who do the kind of work you aspire to. Having all that exposure may allow you to a) passively absorb some of the aesthetic and b) have a visual standard you can aspire to. Maybe you'd like Howard Porter, Sean Murphy, and Bilquis Evely.

Some artists straddle the gap between manga and western comics, maybe you'd like them? 1  2  3

I might comment in the future with further tips. Good luck!

Your current style is like, right between the two. I think you can get to where you want to be.

Looking at the work of others can help, especially if you become familiar with their methods. Studying their images can help you figure out how they were put together. IE, if you're familiar with Photoshop, it becomes easier to figure out how images in Photoshop were created; seeing the methods used in new ways can show you new ways to use your methods.
As for me personally, lately I've been drawing lineart on paper, scanning it, then refining/coloring/completing the image in Photoshop.

General coloring advice: avoid using heavily contrasting shades of color unless you're trying to draw attention to a certain detail. The intense red eyes in some of your images are actually a good example of how to properly make use of intense color.

Oof, it was the elevator scene from the first Resident Evil movie for me. Used to quickly hop on and off of them to avoid being on the entrance for too long.

  1. You might want to keep Wendy and Webber like this to differentiate from the adults. She looks cute in that style.
  2. Er... How did the Sesame seeds get onto her forehead?:wilson_ecstatic:
