I still suck at adventure mode *probable spoilers*

Recommended Posts

Maybe some of you remember, maybe you don't, but a while ago I made a thread asking for help in adventure mode. I got a lot of good advice (thanks for that) and it did help.

However, I have made it fairly fair after in and died after archipelago. It is something I have identified that I have trouble with, but I don't know how to get past it. After 3 tough worlds of surviving, I arrive in the world after worn down and not able to get my footing. I started one run in The King of Winter and I could set up fine, but after Archipelago I just am so insane and my resources are so depleted that the world after kills me.

Since the worlds are randomly generated, I can't plan on getting archipelago on world 2, but I need either that to happen or git gud at the world. I don't think I can survive if I start in archipelago, but I tend to die in the world after, especially if it is world 4.

I have been using Webber as my character of choice so I can exploit spiders to my advantage as much as possible. I would be curious to know what you all think the best character is, and if I should switch to someone else.

A lot of people suggest WX-78 because of the non-spoiling gears food.  By world 5 you should have enough to not even worry about food/sanity (if you are rushing through).

What in particular is killing you off each time?   Based on that, it would be easier to recommend whether a character switch is a good idea or not.  For example, sanity problem > Maxwell, spiders > Webber, etc

If you are struggling with sanity, you may want to use someone other than Webber(although it is great being friendly to spiders). Darkness is an even bigger sanity challenge than archipelago.

The first time I beat adventure mode I used WX-78. He is weak at first, but once you kill a few clockworks he gets a lot stronger. By the time you get to darkness you should have plenty of gears (especially if you get The Game is Afoot). The game gets easier as you go with WX-78.

Another one you might try is Wickerbottom. Her sanity is amazing and she is like a walking science machine.

Good luck mate

Then why don't you prepare a little more? You don't need to hurry.

That's pretty good advice.

It's easy to forgot that you are playing adventure mode when you have something like 150 days on clock and nice, comfy base. It's good to settle down and prepare. By preparing I mean prebuilding lot's of stuff, there is nothing more you can do. Well, you can wait for your beard to regrow, obviously.

I think that previous thread said everything, I don't know what to add. People will probably write the same stuff (like I just did).

I suppose I will try to take it even more slowly, maybe give it a go as WX. Not sure how I will survive without my monster meat, but I do see the benefit of having the gears to eat,

Any archipelago-related tips, as that is the hardest world for me?

What in particular makes it difficult for you? Is it that the resources are in different islands? Or the difficulty in exploring? :)

I usually make a base in Archipelago and stay until almost Winter. The starting island and the savanah(?) island are both quite base-friendly. The only island I hate is the killer bees because when you spawn, they already swarm you in that first few seconds of darkness.

That's odd, the killer beehives aren't supposed to spawn right next to the wormhole anymore.

Archipelago is usually a breeze for me -- literally the easiest world -- except for the bees, which I deal with by lighting everything on fire and running away at top speed with a beekeeper's hat on. However, I'm guessing your problem is sanity management since you're Webber and it's full of wormholes; I've never tried Adventure Mode as Webber. (Switching to WX won't help if Archipelago is your first world, since they start with the same 100 max sanity as Webber and only raise it after upgrading.)

My advice is to get yourself a Tam O' Shanter at the first opportunity available, but that may not be an option in Archipelago itself, since walrus camps spawn mostly in grasslands and the only large chunk of grassland on its map is too jam-packed with bees. You might see one in the savannah or something though. Still, it's probably easier to fight walruses in King of Winter, The Game is Afoot or A Cold Reception first if your first world isn't Archipelago.

I would also suggest using a bug net to capture butterflies and plant a lot of flowers around your base, because the one upside of having 100 sanity is that after it drops it can be raised back up very quickly using methods that would be slow and tedious for other characters. Plant them around the Wooden Thing too so that you can pick them all before world-jumping. Just generally pick flowers whenever you need a sanity boost. Also, keep a bee box if you can capture some non-killer bees, and make lots of taffy and/or pumpkin cookies.

Also, stop world-jumping with low stats!! Why are you doing this to yourself. Sleep in a tent and eat a nice lunch before you go. This applies to any world, really. You'll almost always have better access to resources at the end of one world than the start of the next one, so take advantage of that to fill up your meters while you have the chance.

They do. They did that for me (a few months back) too, but I had a football helm so it was fiiiine. :)

Tamoshanter is a waste of efforts imo, you should rather prototype items like the ice staff so you can use your resources in the next world more effectively.

Don't confuse conclusion with the other thing. Walrus camps can appear in various kinds of "desolates", but none of those are in Archipelago. Archipelago always forces the same islands: Spiders, Wasps, Merms, Beefalo...

^

You should only really rush the last of the five chapters, using jerky or honey as prepared food.

*cough* *dusts my old Adventure Mode knowledge*

Sounds like an okay idea. Me, I used to tiptoe around the killerbees and pluck all flowers I could reach, you need it more than them. (It'd be great if you also shout, TAKE THAT SUCKERS, while doing this as it also raises your sanity in real life.)

Also if you're Webber and rich in monster meat, aren't you also rich in silk? Why not wear silk hat in a pinch?
