Faintly Macabre
I don't dislike twiggy trees as much as some, but I do think they either need to take fewer chops to fell or need to drop at least one more twig, and the reason is actually simple math. The fire pit fuel value of logs is 90 seconds, and the fuel value of pine cones is 30 seconds. If you chop a fully grown evergreen down, it takes 15 chops and yields 4 logs (1 from the stump) and 2 cones, so for 15 chops you get 420 seconds of fuel. The fire pit fuel value of twigs and twiggy pine cones is 30 seconds for both. It takes 15 chops to fell a fully grown twiggy tree, and yields 2 logs (1 from the stump), 2 twigs, and 2 cones. So in this case, your 15 chops only gets you 300 seconds of fuel. I don't think the two need to be exactly equal in terms of fuel value yielded for effort taken (especially since you're probably not using the twigs for fuel anyway), but I do think the gap needs to be at least a little smaller. I personally would like an extra twig for each felling, even if the difference would still be a good 90 seconds of fuel, but fewer chops would probably be fine too. Arlesienne
There is also the matter of making an axe in the first place. If you are not Woodie... a battle of wits for those few twigs dropped by birds ensues at the start. Bahlsen
I'd say both. They're far from being as big as evergreens and they look like they carry many twigs on them. This seems to be a reasoning based on looks but I'd also ask for less chops and more twigs balance-wise. I never chop these trees, I just pick two from the ground and explore until I find more on a forest ground so as not to penalise other players, then I rely on tumbleweeds and spiky bushes. I think this variant is not very elegant, judging by the fact that it requires two band-aid solutions (twigs on the ground and bird delivery) for example, and I hope it will be tweaked in the future. Arlesienne
True. True. They do work well after you have established a base with a farm of those trees and are playing Woodie, with two friends helping you get back in shape after the transformation. I tested this on a friend's server and was positively surprised. Still, they are difficult when they are what you get at the start. Unless axes can be made with something else than twigs (unlikely), we are in a pickle. Not everyone plays Woodie after all. I also wish they did not perish that easily. Their aesthetics do bring something new to the table. They would look nice around the swamp, for instance. Also... has anyone noticed how the "fern" berrybushes (berrybush2) coexist with juicy ones? Also, currently I have juicy berries on the surface and normal ones in the caves. They do not catch the disease somehow. Very quirky. Your forest and cave worlds are technically different servers, and it's possible for one to be in one phase and the other to be in the opposite. Mday
In a world where only twiggy trees are available, I make twigs farm with spiky bush. It is more efficient than cutting down twiggy trees/ chasing tumbleweed. hyiltiz
I hate chopping trees, for any reason. I only chop trees to spawn living logs normally, and never really use logs for fuel. So, having to chop trees for twig? Meh. Unless something very good is on the trees, I won't bother, unless playing as Woodie the chopper or Waxwell the puppet master. Mday
Things that I do in my game 1) While exploring at night, burn trees as I go just like when playing in lights out mode game. 2) Use the night time to craft things, place a light blub on the floor for light. 3) Plant pine cone and dig it up for twig. 4) Get lantern/miner hat as soon as possible Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/67454-twiggy-trees-less-chops-or-more-twigs-and-heres-why/#findComment-774540 Share on other sites
hyiltiz
I'll just speed-run lantern, always. Hate to use low efficiency lights that needs fuel.
