Kramus Cage/Trap

Recommended Posts

Like many DS players I am ever in search of the illusive Krampus sac, hence I kill Glommer every single time ;) as yet it still eludes me but I am determined - and I take my Krampus killing seriously!

First question (a side note to this topic) Is there a max number of Krampus that can spawn or do the numbers keep increasing as you go - like hounds?  I had three of them spawn on me this time, not that Im complaining, just would be nice to know.

Second question (and the reason for the post):  even when I kill Glommer away from my base, the little gits try to pick up anything in the vicinity, so I am considering making a large walled Glommer killing Krampus trapping area so I don't have to run all over the place after them.... (now I think of it - may do this for Mr Walrus too).  Has anyone else set anything like this up.... Im thinking the enclosure would have to be pretty big as they spawn off screen - would it even work?  I suppose I could just bait them but it would be nice to know that they can't go too far while I'm killing them.

@queenb33 Krampus can create mirror images of himself to punish you more if you are being naughty later in the game. Yes, more Krampus later, like hounds.

It's possible, I reckon, but too effortous. How about instead, you place a bunch of nice items in a small area surrounded by walls and leave a tiny gate for Krampus to go in, then rid of the bearded fellow as he tries to pass? ... You would be yelling "You shall not pass!" at a demon, just like in the movie, but without the bungie-jumping.

@Mobbstar I love your thinking!  Great idea, Krampus trap in the making!  I can just see it now - webber with his long beard... would be great if DS had a wizard hat to complete the scene!   I have just the thing to leave in there for loot too... godforsaken spiderqueen hats!

Ah yes, the fire farm.  A classic.  Requires a lot of gears.  Dragon scales too, if you aren't Willow.

As for your original question, a single sleep dart is all it takes to put Krampus to sleep, so that's an affordable option.  Alternatively, kill Glommer at nightfall and attack Krampus while he sleeps.

So you kill Glommer on each full moon? There is even better option.

Kill Glommer when it spawns, but do not pick up the flower, leave it as it is. Quit game (go back to game's main menu) an then play again. Another Glommer will spawn, woo! Kill as much as possible and after the sunrise kill all the Krampuses.

It works the best during winter - the nights are very long.

@Maslak... Yep that was my strategy originally but then someone PM'd me about the Kill glommer trick... have yet to try it as I have spent most of  winter farming my wallrus camps for teeth/tam etc (already had cane set piece). The plan was to go up there and try this out at full moon but then deerclops spawned on me while I was waiting on the second night (didn't make it up there on the first)  by the time I had killed Deerclops, the werepigs had done glommer in! But I do intend to try that tactic thank you very much for posting it :)

If you don't want to go down the fire route you can always just kill the Glommer in the middle of a pig village (6 or more pig houses). A couple of well placed chests will focus the Krampus while the pigs aggro on them. As suggested already, walls help to slow them down if they decide to run away.

Apparently the only reason you want to kill krampus is to obtain his sack. but there is a problem, with 1% chance out of a 100% for the loot to drop, I think we need a more powerful methods to spawn him and get the sack (The fire camp trap works good but only for willow/scalemail users) The trick with the glommer spawning seems good however there is another method similar to it,

just get glommer and preapre yourself to kill krampus after killing Glommer (Take him in middle of pig village etc)

Kill it and let krampus spawn, Finish krampus"es" off and see to it if you got the sack, if no Alt+F4 and try again from the last time the game got saved,

Another awesome method is to kill Glommer in the night, Krampus fall a sleep right away when they spawn and you can easily kill them in the night without them running around and picking all the stuff...

So I have an idea for a krampus farm, but it remains untested. If you have enough silk, then you can make a whole bunch of nets and catch butterflies. Catch, plant, catch, plant until you have a swagalicious amount of butterflies spawning. Wall them in, then commit butterfly genocide. If the walls don't work (idk if they do) you might be able to do a fire trap thing with the fling-o-matics.

The thing is that the Piggyback slows you down a bit and doesn't hold quite as much as the Krampus Sack. In my opinion, 1% for a better backpack seems insane in my eyes, and I wish it was tweaked just a bit for Together. Maybe 5% would be okay.

yeah it doesn't hold as much but it's still better than a bacpack and the slowdown is countered by the walking cane

The slowdown isn't countered by the walking cane, though. I don't know actual move speed values so I'll make up variables. Let W be the speed increase of the walking cane, P be the speed decrease of the piggyback, and D be default walk speed.

Even if D-P+W=D, you are still slowed down by the piggyback, when compared to the alternative of D+W being your walk speed with a backpack/krampus sack. If you have access to a walking cane, then the above situation is what you are presented with.

well as i read in the wiki the slow decrease is 10% which is negated by the walking cane also the krampus sack has two slots more than the piggyback and that makes it minimal better it says here on the wiki that you should take the krampus sack as a bonus drop and consider making a piggyback.let make a math case:25%-10%=15% YOU ADD mageilluminessence or the yellow amulet and it makes 35% walk speed with the cramps sack it would be 45% better but the drop is too low and this sounds like a better option a bit.

I suppose it very much boils down to a personal challenge - anyone can make a piggyback but it takes patience, grit and a hell of a lot of dedication and determination to make a Krampus sac.

yeah since the drop rate is 1%

don't get me wrong i had the luck once i got the krampus sack from the first kill even known i died on that save i was happy that i got the krampus sack on the first drop but yes it takes a lot of effort you either have to create your own pig village and kill them everyday to attract krampus or you need to kill a lot of catcoons or a lot of bees.

@PiturcaClaudiuStef  thank you - I've found all the replies on this thread really useful.  Good idea about the Mod but I think Im going to stick with standard settings.

I still haven't tried the reload on the full moon but I always go up there and pick the flower and kill glommer.  During the winter I have taken to making a load of boomerangs, dropping some rocks and flint around a campfire and crock pot and killing a truck load of birds, that way I am harvesting feathers, getting meat morsels and spawning Krampus.  I alternate between doing this and killing walrus and blue hounds for their teeth/tam/tusk  takes a while but it means Im harvesting really useful stuff at the same time.

thanks i'm trying to help with only ideas i have you can do cause i thought about it make a feather hat it attracts birds a lot and you can use the boomerang to kill them and attract the krampus.

i know the bird farming is slow but it helps you get krampus atleast so a feather hat which is not hard to make maybe the tentacle part is hard to get i think but it's still good to make and a lot of birds come if you use a sleep dart or a pan flute you can kill the bird with your spear and you save the boomerang that way
