Zeklo
(Alright, you want an answer? Have the short one:) I apologize for lack of quality before hand. I wanted to make it quick. Some stuff may change idk. MAJOR SPOILERS Aiden had been present at the time of his brother’s accident—he had even been partially responsible—and he held himself responsible. Frostbite had taken both Elon’s arms up to their elbows, and the hyperthermia left them in a coma. Aiden swore that he would set things straight and sought out to be a doctor. A few years passed and not much had changed with his brother’s condition. It was soon evident that there was nothing Aiden could do to help, so he decided to seek help. Who or where he went to is unknown, but we all know where he ended up… Stranded and alone, Aiden sought out anything that might help him survive. He couldn’t hunt, so he foraged. He couldn’t craft, so he scavenged. Despite his best efforts it was clear he was going to die, but then he met her, Wilma. She was nothing like Aiden, she was far more agile and adept at survival. It was because of her that he lived as long as he did. They traveled some time together, at least a few weeks, but then things began to get difficult and they became desperate. Aiden had spotted worn down houses in the marshes and decided to seek help. He had been nothing but dead weight thus far and he wanted nothing more than to pull his own—that was his mistake. The occupants of these homes were vicious creatures known as merms. Syndir was not only outmatched but outnumbered. It wasn’t long before they came down upon him. They used the vile marsh waters to blind him before attacking. He was going to die, but he was content. Wilma, would be able to survive now that she didn’t have to drag him along. He could at least die knowing that—but it was a false and short-lived hope. They had come to save him, and even without his vision he was aware she couldn’t win. Worse than even that it was what they said that pained him more than the toxics rushing through his eyes. “I’ll buy you some time! Don’t worry about me.” These words would forever stay seared into his memory—at least in theory—and they would serve as fuel for his determination. Aiden did manage to get away, but his vision wasn’t getting any better—it had gone from blurry to near complete blindness. The poisons flowing through his veins were slowly killing him and sapping his remaining energy. He desperately boarded the vessel Wilma had made, but quickly passed out. When he awoke he was somewhere else entirely, the volcano, and…he could see? There was also an object stuck to his face. Some sort of mask., but no matter how hard he tried he couldn’t get it off. What was going on? The answer came in the form of a voice in his head. It’s a good thing I managed to find you as soon as I did. A second later and the poison would have reached your heart. He decided to call this voice “Minni”, they were some sort of being that had been trapped inside the mask Aiden now wore. It didn’t seem all that bad, in fact they were quite helpful. It was because of them that he could now “see” and the reason he hadn’t died to poison as of yet. Of course there was a downside, they required their own sustenance—memories and emotion. Minni soon explained how they could technically take these memories forcefully at the risk of killing him—which would be bad for them both. In the end they came to an agreement. He didn’t have much of a choice anyway. Minni would take the memories Aiden allowed and in return they would keep him alive and grant him sight. It worked quite well for some time, but good things didn’t last—a fact Aiden was unfortunately familiar with. While the volcano did provide a number of useful materials there were also dangers to be had. The most fearsome of them came in the form of the dragoons. Most of these creatures acted in a predictable way, but there was one he would soon meet that acted irrationally—the obsidian dragoon. This was the name he gave it as it’s scales were made entirely of this formidable resource. In the matter of seconds it had emerged from the volcano's core and lunged towards Aiden. He futilely tried to hold it back, but to no avail. It tore him to shreds. Amongst the casualties was his hand, which it devoured. His body was now miraculously clinging together. It had even managed to pierce the obsidian of his mask and scorch the entire left side of his face, and the gash its claws caused tore straight down into his skull. Now once again faced with certain death, Aiden made his choice. He would live. He would live for Wilma. He would live on for the both of them. He couldn’t die. He refused. His options were considerably limited however, but Minni offered him a way out. It would require a substantial amount of his most cherished memories, but they claimed they could save him—and that they did. He had lived—only he wasn’t Aiden anymore. The memories required to save his life were the building blocks for who he was as a person. All that was left were spotted holes and gaps. He was nothing more than an incomplete puzzle, and thus he became someone else—Syndir Flare. (Fractured state of mind + memory devouring entity = Syndir) (And yes this is the SHORT answer—if an answer at all) (Now I shall mentally prepare myself for what comes next... - _ -) Syndir gently caressed the left side of his mask. That portion of his face had begun to sting again. WaddleDee
(As long as we're sharing name origins, Wiffleball's name was just a spur-of-the-moment decision when I signed up. However, he actually did exist as a character - or at least, a concept - before then, under the pseudo-German name of Wundelbun.) Wiffleball got up, then tried once again to wield the machete. When he was unsuccessful, and ended up falling for the second time in a row, it occurred to him that perhaps - just maybe - Kate's stick would be a better fit for him. He dragged the machete over to where she stood, then offered it to her. MenaAthena
"You want to trade?" Kate looked from her pitiful stick sword to the gleaming golden machete. "... Are you sure?" She double checked, trying to hide the glimmer of ecstaticness in her voice. GuyNamedChris
Famen was sailing the ship when he noticed the plank. When did that get there? Maybe Kate put it on Famen thought to himself. ~~~~~~ Angelle started gnawing on her bone again. WaddleDee
Wiffleball petted Noctimus, then turned to Kate and nodded. Gold was shiny, yes, but it was heavy and cumbersome. A stick - now that was lightweight, versatile, and easy to wield! The superior choice was obvious. 1 Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/63200-wave-after-wave/page/176/#findComment-750959 Share on other sites

WaddleDee
Wiffleball decided a demonstration would be most effective. Laying the machete down, he gently took the stick from Kate, then walked over and started playfully smacking Meritursas with it. 3 Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/63200-wave-after-wave/page/176/#findComment-750979 Share on other sites

WaddleDee
Wiffleball quickly froze up, expecting the threat to be genuine. When he realized Meritursas, the big scary monster, was actually trying to play along with them, he gave the serpent a stitched-up smile, then wasted no time in jumping back into the fray and continuing his stick-based onslaught. The pirates wouldn't lose today, no sir! 2 Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/63200-wave-after-wave/page/176/#findComment-750986 Share on other sites

Battal
Meritursas helplessly flops around gracefully dodges Wiffleball's attacks, moving with the speed and ferocity of a fat, half-drowned slug covered in salt sea monster of his size and caliber. However, the toy rabbit's senseless flailing unbelievable skill with a twig blade ultimately wins the day, leaving Meritursas dazed and lying on the ground. 4 Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/63200-wave-after-wave/page/176/#findComment-751142 Share on other sites
WaddleDee
Wiffleball climbed atop the downed tursai, then raised his stick into the air. The mighty beast had been subdued! But Wiffleball wasn't quite done, not yet - he still had one more trick up his sleeve. He glanced down at Meritursas, making sure he wouldn't expect it, then winked at Noctimus.
