"Wait... I know!" Viridis said as if she accomplished something. "You keep hinting... at eating your friend, the smaller serpent! You must... be a distant relative of... the Latrodectus! Or... uhh... ah! Black Widow, I think... the humans called it. The spider... who eats their partner after mating!" she says as if it was the most casual thing in the world. "Uhh... that is, if you two are... you know, a... couple!" she tried her very best to create an akward situation.

"Well you see, Kate, when two giant fish monsters really love eachother..."

"there are many species of Tursai.  each one...has its own Valtisas and Aitivalku."  Meritursas answers.  "there are...no words for them...in your language."

"they are mother and father to all members of that species."

Kate looked back and forth between Trevor and the sea monster with a confused and innocent expression. ... What? What the heck was "mateship", and what did brothers and sisters have to do with it? She shook her head, dismissing it as weird grownup talk.

Kate looked down at Jaw and shook her head no. "That means he likes you." She explained with a small grin.

"For this reason, only the Valtisas and Aitivalku are allowed to mate, so the bloodline remains pure."  Meritursas continues, to Trevor's despair.  "However, any member of a species...can challenge their respective ruler...in a fight to the death.  If they win...they replace the slain monarch.  Therefore, our race becomes progressively stronger."

"Tursai have no qualms...about killing and hunting other members of our race...so for our entire lives the weak and...small...are weeded out.  This allows the strongest of our species to thrive...and ascend to Valt or Aiti status."

(Oh god, I think all this Homestuck music is messing with my head.)

(Press 1 to hear more about Tursai relationships.  Press 2 to learn about Tursai species.  Press 3 to hang up.  Pulse 4 para escuchar este mensaje en español.  Or press 5 for more exposition options.)

(Seriously, I went way too in-depth about this.)
