K5dV
Much more challenging than I thought. His low sanity sucks in the rain. Once the rain starts your at zero sanity, and then come the shadows. The shadows themselves aren't the problem, it's that you quickly run out of grass. Then out of torches, then out of light. My base flooded, everything in my ice box rotted. I basically ran around for 13 days trying to craft the dumbrella, but unfortunately the nearest pig was halfway across the map. I did get my pig skin though, and after a while got the dumbrella. Sadly, it was too late, I was nearly out of health, since those dang poison mosquitos had poisoned me several times, and it had taken a toll on my health. Eventually, as the monsoon was drying up, I was caught trapped in my base by a terrorbeak. I couldn't run since I surrounded my base with sandbags before monsoon season (sandbags are useless). All I could do was sigh as a terrorbeak killed me. I have a couple of suggestions: The brain of thought should only have durability used if you are crafting a recipe you don't know. I wasted the last 25% on crafting rope. There should really be some sort of sponge item to get rid of puddles. I think sandbags should block water, but only partially. For example, if a puddle spawned, it would only go partially through the sandbag (but it wouldn't reach its maximum size). Meaning sandbags could limit puddles, but not be a get out of jail free card. Snakes should drop a monster meat morsel. In the crock pot it's 0.5 part meat 0.5 part monster food. When eaten raw it restores 7 hunger and depletes 10 sanity. When cooked it restores 12 hunger and depletes 5 sanity. Some people have also reported that if you put some more around that, the puddle can get eliminated, or at least prevent mosquitos from spawning, but I haven't done that myself. But yeah, I think there should be a consumable item that doesn't involve being placed that can dry up puddles, to cover the case where puddles spawn under existing structures that block placement. I tried to do that, I wasn't really sure where the exact middle of the puddles were since my base had about three different puddles. Even then, I placed some sandbags but they didn't do anything. If there was some way to locate the middle of the puddle, maybe sandbagging would be more effective. PhelsarusBeel
Gotta say i actually had a very pleasent experience throughout Monsoon season during my first time as Wolfgang and i had my entire base flooded since a puddle spawned next to one of my machines while i was out exploring when i came back most machines where already broken and i did not prototype sandbags before. This is what made it easy to survive: -Full Snakeskingear. Both the Hat and Coat make you waterproof enought that you can walk through puddles without getting wet. Alternatively you can also use a BLubbersuit what is even better. -Prototype all the Items you really need before Monsoonseason. Stuff like Antivenom, Shellsuit and the likes so you are not screwed when a puddle spawns in a very questionable location and breaks most your stuff. -Sleeping is usefull for keeping both your sanity up and skipping days to make the puddles go away faster. But only use this if you can aford it from a food standpoint. -Crockpot is only slightly usefull since it tends to be one of the things that break down first (or at least i always got puddles spawn under it) so make as much food as possible while you can use them but after that start to rely on other foodsources like Limpets, Mussels and everything else the sea can give to you. -Prepare as much as possible. Mostly in terms of foodsources. Use the 10 days of breather peroid to harvest as much bamboo, vines and the likes and make a lot of Musselsticks, Trawlnets and whatnot so you can easily farm up food in a dire situation. I had like 10-15 Musselsticks all around my Island and the neightboring ones what helped me feed myself after my Crockpots broke down. Lastly since you played as Webber you can easily get Piratehats that give a huge Sanityboost (good enought to give Wolfgang a positive gain on it while at dusk and night) and hunt snakes for more Monstermeat for food (Snakes are plentyfull and even if they don't drop meat you still get Skin for the Coat and Hat or Venomglands for more Antivenom). Just a collection of Tips and tricks i learned through my playthroughs. grekon
The game for the first 3 seasons only has wetness as a weather threat. If you can't handle it then I wonder... Plan ahead and prep for the rains. You have plenty of time. t0panka
Full snakeskin gear is really easy to make and then you dont need to care about sanity. You can also wear Pirate hat for more sanity since you will still have 100% rain protection with snakeskin coat. Next time just prepare those 2 and monsoon season is easy. 10 hours ago, rezecib said: The most effective way to use sandbags is actually like a sponge, putting them in the center of the puddle. It would just make it less annoying, imo. But I would be fine with it being expensive to craft, or having some drawback, like blocking placement there for the rest of the season, or causing 2 puddles to form elsewhere on the island. TheDwemerEquation
Dealing with puddles is quite easy once you get the hang of it, you have to have a lot of sandbags ready for the first day of rain in the monsoon/spring season. The first stage of puddles are a 4x4 area of water scattered throughout your island, put a sandbag in the very middle space of it and the puddle will not expand with the next rains. I've read (and will try myself next monsoon season) if you want to get rid of the puddle completely and keep mosquitoes from spawning from the puddles next to your base, put four sandbags down in a square on top of the puddle and it will get rid of it completely. If you are next to the water's edge, keep an eye on the water level there, a lot of times water will just start seeping in from the edges. If it's right next to you, just go ahead and line the water's edge with sandbags to keep it clear near your base. The whole trick of dealing with puddles is doing it when they're in their first stage, each rain increases the puddles and if you don't have it taken care of you will be completely flooded. If a puddle does spawn under one of your important structures, either hammer it down and build a new one (it's a good idea to have a crockpot prebuilt for convenience since you need that most during the season) or sandbag best you can around the puddle's 4 edges if you decide you can't do that for some reason. You absolutely should have a seashell suit and emergency antivenom(s) made by this point, then mosquitoes are nothing more than an annoyance. You also need to have built a palm leaf hut next to your chimena and that will dry you off very quickly. Others have mentioned snakeskin gear, I usually use a simple umbrella most of the time (hammer down pigheads on sticks around touchstones for pigskins) along with a hat or coat. Once you get a blubber suit your sanity/wet worries will be gone. As for sanity, make some seafood gumbo (monster meat/meat + 3 limpets/fish items) or be ready to build a sandcastle if you have an emergency. Sandcastles are amazing. gpmandaXD
why, why suffer when the fact that webber has only 100 sanity makes it incredibly manageable just pick flowers or seashells it takes like 8 or 10 to refill your sanity at the stage in which you usually start getting worried something that i love about the pirate hat with webber is how much in-character it is, it's incredibly effective and it makes sense since he's a kid and kids like playing pirates plus he suffers no sanity loss from snakes and making snake gear is really easy once you've found bone shards, and don't even worry about degradation, one long silk beard shave and you've got enough for a sewing kit top that with the fact that he has more health and you can eat UNCOOKED MONSTER MEAT with NO PENALTY AT ALL and you've got easily the best character for shipwrecked Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/62862-my-monsoon-season-as-webber/#findComment-711743 Share on other sites
