Do you use the tooth trap? Like it?

I like it because it's how I deal with the hounds. (I don't use the trap on anything else.) I put down the tooth traps in a circle, drop the meat in the center and wait. If any hounds get through, I dispatch them with my tentacle spike.

But.

I've had accidental kills I didn't like. The very first smallbird I hatched? Sudden death by tooth trap. I was resetting my tooth traps (since you need to reset every time you start up the game or they won't trigger). I heard a strangled cry, looked across, and my pet smallbird was dead. :grumpy: And, earlier today, I was setting off to gather some grass, heard a horrible grunt-groan from off-screen, doubled back, and discovered that one of my tooth traps killed a beefalo. Ack. :nightmare:

Yeah , i am not setting toothtraps for now because of accident kills, but i think i should start setting them Soon, because after day 100 it will be difficult to deal with hounds. Or maybe bee mines, but i don't know if they can kill accidentally either :)

I tried one on a spider, and honestly it didn't impress me very much. They seem to have a very small activation radius meaning the mob needs to walk practically right on top of it, meaning you'd have to lay multiple traps to be of any use.

Hounds, I haven't been having a lot of trouble with hounds as of late. I've been able to take them out as they come with a spear and logsuit without too much trouble so I haven't really needed to use traps on them. Spiders aren't much issue either, unless they're in a large group.

Really, from what I can tell, traps would seem more beneficial if you plan to fight a large group of mobs at once, in close proximity, or a spider queen. Aside from that... I haven't really come across many times where I've thought I could have used a tooth trap to much effect.

I've yet to use a bee bomb, but I get the feeling it probably wouldn't be much different.

If you have 50+ you can easily kill anything. 15+ Hounds and Hell Hounds, 18 Werepigs(that was fun), Multiple Tree Guards(why don't we just call them Ent(s)?), Multiple Spider Queens. But the bug makes it a pain to deal with right now though.

I don't call them tree guard, I call them tree guardian. I do type it guard though.

Tree guards can be felled by tooth traps? Awesome. I must try that sometime. I have two of them wandering around killing the pigs in the nearest village.

I'm close to Day 200. So I'm getting 10+ hounds every 3-5 days. If not for tooth traps, I'd be struggling. ;)

i am on 200 day made arena where i always fight hounds which is surrounded by 50-100 traps but not single one ever activated :(

It's a bug that's being worked on. Until it's fixed, every time you open up your game to play, you need to reset the traps. Otherwise they won't trigger.

I have six of them and don't use a single one. The hounds aren't hard at all to kite around and kill especially if you kill them as Soon as they arrive. Kiting is fundamental to all combats with this game learn how to do it and use it often if not always! But ya I don't really use the tooth traps would rather have the dapper best provide armor or something and make that the primary use for hound teeth. I also suppose that the ability to use traps if you want to creates more options for how you want to kill monsters.

I use tentacles to kill the hounds. I just lure them to the closest swamp and once one dies it drops its meat under the tentacle and I circle the tentacle till they're all dead.

They only drop monster meat and hound teeth. The teeth are useless other than traps (dapper vest is currently just vanity item therefore useless) and without hounds the traps are kinda useless as well. I couldn't care less about monster meat with the abundance of spiders I seem to get so often.

bad thing about hounds is that they attack random (middle of nigh, while exploring,or even fighting with other monsters) and sometimes you are not ready :( and that's when bad things happen

Despite their speed, if you keep constant motion you can completely dodge the hounds. Warrior spiders you can't, they're the bane of my existence.

yes but 80% of my hounds attack me in middle of night and its quiet hard to run around fire while 10 hounds chase after you and also killing fire hounds without burning something while still staying in range of fire

Use a miners hat or torches if there are that many you are just going to have to spend the night on the run. As Soon as you hear them coming grab your weapons food grass and twigs and head out. Try and run around familiar territories so you know what is likely to be there. Just gotta always be ready ;) lol
