Uhm, the tentacle spike is not a golden spear. Tentacles do not respawn, so the spike is not renewable. With a pig king, the golden tools are. Eventually, if you play long enough, you will use every tentacle spike and very flint in the world, and mine every boulder, kill every tentacle...

Aside from the issue of long-term hypothetical sustainability, the tentacle spike is a functionality upgrade, unlike the golden tools which are durability upgrades. While the spike is likely to last longer simply because it takes fewer hits to kill, a golden spear would take as many hits as the basic spear, but last longer.

What about a Golden Hammer (or perhaps Maxwell's Silver Hammer? Wait... No...) and a Golden Bee Bomb?

I could be totally wrong about this but I think the tentacle spike loses durability faster than the spear. Maybe it's because it does more damage but I feel like I go through tentacle spikes a lot faster than when I'm using spears. I always thought that was the kind of draw-back to using a spike instead of a spear; it does more damage but you go through them quicker (and obviously a lot harder to obtain). Again, I could be way off in thinking this tho, it doesn't state anywhere on the wiki or the forum (as far as I know) that this is true.

Spike and spear both have 100 uses (1% per hit) the spike is stronger but not by much seeing that bees and spiders take 2 hits with either.

Never use the spike on bees or spiders, you're just wasting hits. Probably avoid using it on pigs & tallbirds unless swarmed, since they can be stunned forever. And of course, if you have a pig king, you should never use anything but a luxury tool on rabbits, crows, or redbirds (or pigs, spiders, or tallbirds if you can safely get them alone.) I should probably go kill some tentacles and get me a spike, come to think of it. I'm well past day 300 and I don't have one... And I keep using my effigies when I make little mistakes in my gradual quest to get the spider population under control. I'd probably do better whacking the queens with tentacle spikes.

Also... Anyone need 20+ spider eggs? Spider hats seem a bit hard to manage, and I have enough silk that it's going to be 500 days more before I resume silk farming... Realistically, I don't think I will play this game that long.

No Pig King on my map. But I'm going to eradicate the map of wild spider nests (maybe spider nests entirely, for a while... Until my silk stock gets down under, you know, 5 full stacks or so) and then I'll never need to fight the queen again. She doesn't spawn from an empty nest (as a response to combat, that is, she'll still spawn as part of the life cycle), so you can take out a tier 3 nest with a handful of traps and your bare hands (and a LOT of patience), making silk farming very safe and renewable... However, if you want extra spider eggs (why you would, I'm not sure... I guess to lead spiders against another monster?) you have to let her rise to the next stage in the life cycle and wander about for a while, spawning spiders, or kill her once she spawns, leaving a level 1 behind.

i think tentacle re-spawn and a golden spear should be available. maybe the golden spear could do the same amount of damage than the tentacle spike or like a 1 point difference in the favor of the spike if we are really adamant about it being the best weapon. but there should def be a golden and more durable weapon.
