Is Wilson from Germany?

Recommended Posts

He knows a lot of american stuff (Such as the "I can't believe it's not butter" nonsense), but nothing pointing towards germany. At least not to my knowledge.

Wathgrithr may be german, she seems into nordic lore, and german theaters used to feature that kind of stuff a lot. Wolfgang is related to france and communism, as revealed by his frog legs and hammer quotations. Maxwell came to america, I don't know where he originally lived at, probably the UK. No idea about the rest.

Because of some of her quotes and her red hair Wigfrid could be an irish woman.

I find it also strange that Wilson is from Germany, as far as I heard one of the devs said so,

would be cool if someone actually knew in which stream that was said. ^^

It would actually be cool if Wilson is german without knowing anything about Germany *laugh*

He is a crazy scientist...so german would fit quiet well. ^^

Edit:

MycoLogical said that Klei confirmed that Wilson is german, is there any source?

Here you go:

I don't believe that Wilson is German since I haven't found a source from a dev confirming that.

That said I'm Austrian myself and mainly play Wilson so if there are German puns in his quotes I would have noticed them.

So I believe that Wilson is NOT German because his name is Wilson Percival Higgsbury..

Wilson is from New England according to this email supposedly from Klei. So he was American.

Thanks for that info. ^^

That makes way more sense.

But now we clearly have no german character, we have characters.

from England - Maxwell

from France - Wolfgang

from the States - Wilson

from Canada - Woodie

from Hawaii (States) - Walani

from Ireland - Wigfrid

from Robotoland/Japan ^^ - WX

but no german. It could be some kind of military old man.

We have an old woman (Wicker) but no old man.

Maxwell isn´t that old...

- he could look like Bismark or better he could be Wismark ^^ and can feed hounds Monster Meat

to make them friendly for a period of time or to tame atleast one until it dies

- because of his old age he runs slower and has less health, but more sanity

- he could start with a helmet or can craft it later,

the name of the helmet is "Pickelhaube" (spiked helmet or kaiser helmet) ...maybe a pun with pickles. ^^

- he loves to eat fish, because of Bismarks saying:

"Wenn der Hering so teuer wie der Hummer wäre,

gälte er mit Sicherheit in den höchsten Kreisen als Delikatesse."

("If the herring would be as expensive as lobster, it would be a delicacy.")

- and maybe he can craft a whip, because of the german saying: "Zuckerbrot und Peitsche."

("sugarbread and whip"...is the german saying for: "with a carrot and a stick" from the english language )

- the whip can be used as a weapon and to tame pigman and hounds (similiar to the DST whip for Beefalos)

- von Wisemark could have a longer timer to befriend pigman/hounds, because he is a wise leader (similiar to Woodies leadership timer, but even longer)

- von Wisemark is slow and has low health, so he can give his "Pickelhauben" (kaiser helmets) to pigman follower, to let them fight for him, he is a military leader after all ^^

- he deals less damage than most chars, maybe 0.75 (because he is old) and it is better to rely with him

on pig man soldiers (pig man with Pickelhauben) or hounds to win battles

- he has a higher hunger drain, because....just look at him ^^

Wernher von Wisemark

(because of his high sanity he is very wise ^^)

Health  100 (he is old)

Hunger 180 (he is chubby ^^)

Sanity   250 (he is wise)

There was also a similiar thing with a Wolfgang skin, that looks very nice.

Sweet Mary, Mother of God! This puts an actual DATE on the game! I knew it was early-ish 20th century but this is awesome! How did I not know about this...

and he came in steerage too, so his performances must not have been going well

Well there's been dates on the game for a while now. This is DS's canonical timeline, originally made by Kevin:

1890s - 1906: William Carter origin story

1906: William and Charlie enter the DS world.

1906 - 1910ish: Some crazy stuff happens that we haven't told you about yet....

1910ish - 1921: The various playable characters get pulled into the DS world.

1921: Wilson gets pulled in (Forbidden Knowlege trailer).

*THE ORIGINAL GAME + ROG STARTS HERE*

?: Wilson lives in DSworld for a while. Dies a lot, eventually finds Maxwell's door and confronts Maxwell

?: Wilson replaces Maxwell on the Nightmare Throne, Maxwell becomes Waxwell.

?: Some other crazy stuff happens that we haven't told you about yet....

?: The DST plotline begins.

Whould be interesting to know which persons got sucked first into the DS world.

I guess Maxwell and Charlie are the first 2...but maybe there are actually people

that we don´t know about yet, that are longer in the DS world... thats a little bit creepy,

maybe the "Shadow Watcher" was a human before?

Wilson got sucked in 1921...that means that

Wendy, Willow and Wolfgang are actually longer in the DS world?

... all of them are crazy in there own way.

Thats exiting, we need really some more lore hints! ^^

*late reply*

I really am out of it on this stuff I guess, even though I really love DS lore. Probably because I come and go with the game.

Ah I know what happened; I misread the steam page for the game back in 2013 where it said:

You play as Wilson, an intrepid Gentleman Scientist. I must have in my skim read saw it as You play as Wilson, an intrepid German Scientist. I never looked at it again and have been with that misreading ever since...

I guess he is a New Englander!

You forgot the most important : Wes, who is obviously French.

Wilson live in New England but that does not imply that he was born there. Maybe he moved here recently for his research.

For Wolfgang it is not confirmed and his name plus some other of his quotes might also hint a eastern Europe origin. Although his stripped shirt is an other common French cliché :

Some characters have really too little to guess : Willow, Wickerbottom, WX and Webber.

There is indications that Wendy (and Abigail) might be related to Maxwell in the William Carter Puzzle (niece) which would make her from England or born in the States with at least one parent (Jack, Maxwell's brother) from England.
