So what is the reason Klei hasn't implemented this?

A slot for armour/outfit, hat, backpack and amulet? I understand that there are mods that do this;  but I don't play mods because I like playing the 'canon/true experience' of the game.

The fiddly micromanagement of quickly pressing  hot keys to swap from backpack to armour to avoid death can't be tedious only for me.

I know that we have asked this for years, but has there been a definitive answer as to why not? I would enjoy the game a lot more if these were added.

Why not let players wear vests under their armour, while we're at it?

Because it'd take away the need to choose, and as such, the sense of strategy. I understand instant swapping is possible, but that means that you have to keep an eye on those things too, making it harder to focus on the actual action.

Either think ahead or be agile on your hot keys. Both are better than to let players succeed without effort.

Pretty much this.

Keep the game difficult as it is, if people want things to be easier then they can rely on mods.

I remember this one image of a knight in full armor sporting the Dora the Explorer backpack last time a thread like this was brought up. Christ if I could find it again, I don't even know who made the image. Anyway, I never really relied on amulets (Though in DST, I always keep one in my hotbar so if I die, I can just haunt it and revive) and I always just keep my armor inside my backpack so I just need to right click it to flip it onto myself. Though, after kiting so long, I usually only need a football/battle helmet.

A slot for shirts, a slot for backpacks, a slot for armor, a slot for melee weapons, a slot for ranged weapons, a slot for amulets, a slot for head equipment, and a slot for trinkets.

Pretty much necessary to enjoy the game at its fullest tbh.

Imagine Wilson holding a thulecite club, a luxury axe, and a opulent pickaxe in one hand, while having a marble suit of armor on with a floral shirt loosely strapped around it, a backpack barely holding on to his back, a fashion melon with a football helmet, a life giving amulet and a belt of hunger, with 4 blowdarts in the other hand along with a boomerang.

...and walking canes strapped to the legs, whilst holding a glowberry with the mouth.

Yeah, but that doesn't make sense.

No, weirdobob's example doesn't make sense.  However, other games place a limit of 2 rings but I've seen someone wear as many as 13.  And why limit yourself to one amulet?  Would Mr. T stop at just one?

Balance, that's why.

And yet Wilson can easily carry all of the following using just his hands:

  • 40 tufts of grass
  • 20 cut logs
  • 40 twigs
  • 40 rocks
  • A walking cane
  • A lantern
  • A spear
  • 10 complete breakfasts consisting of bacon and eggs
  • An entire suit of armor
  • A helmet
  • 10 saplings
  • A shovel
  • 10 berry bushes
  • A torch
  • And a partridge in a pear tree

And run at a decent jogging pace while carrying all that, and change in and out of a suit of armor in mere milliseconds. The game was clearly not made for realism, but for gameplay balance. What do you expect in a game that has animated trees that kill you for harvesting wood?
