Caves Beta - September 23rd Update

So I've been racking my brain (and reading every log and file I find) trying to get a mixed overworld/caves server running on my computer. I got close today: both are running, connected to each other, and I can play the overworld no problem, but I still can't get into the cave. DST gives me the absolutely useless "we tried really hard to send you to the caves, but something went awry." The masterattachicon.giflog.txt and slaveattachicon.giflog.txt logs are attached.

 

Aha, we found it. Your slave is running with the -lan flag, this is not supported at the moment.

 

Remove that and you should be good to go (though you might have to clear the save folder on the slave and regenerate).

I haven't noticed this one yet. If anyone else sees it, please let us know so we can figure out what's going on!

 

 

I know I have been having an issue with going into a cave and coming out of it just spawns you next to a Jury-Rigged Portal. Instead of putting by the sink hole entrance that took you down there. However I am not sure it's a related problem. Also we a re running a Linux Debian server on endless mode. Otherwise the only other info I might be able to give is a video of it happening. Not sure if a log file is going to help either through client or server side.

This happens when the world has a different number of cave entrances compared to the number of cave exits in the cave.

I've been having some erraticism in connecting to the caves from the main world.  At one point it took me four tries to make it into the caves.  When I fail it just stays on the "connecting" dialog box infinitely, once I kill the game and reconnect it would put me back to the overworld (where I was trying to use a cave_entrance to go spelunking).  Eventually it did connect, so this is just transient.

 

But it's worth noting the connection between servers is still a bit flaky.

Looks like the master server now has the -lan flag on the command line.... ;)  We just straight up don't support lan mode right now. This is on our todo list. But for the time being, you can just set a password or a clan to keep your servers private.

We're definitely hoping to track down these kinds of bugs.. next time it happens, please grab both server logs and the client log if you can. Thanks!

Hello everyone, 

i'm hyped for caves and I nearly got it working, both parts of the multilevel sever start and connect correctly besides this one thing. Since the changes to the settings.ini I get this error which makes it unable to connect to the server, despite it being listed here, I also cannot connect manualy to it using c_connect. Here is the error:

What am I doing wrong? I was able to connect to a hosted server before just fine, so its not the general setup I think.

I'm sorry this is 3rd hand IPSquiggle, so I don't have log entries.

 

But one of my players has reported the following:

 

If you are down in the caves, and the surface-world resets, you come up a random sinkhole.  He reported that sometimes that sinkhole would be mined when you emerged, and you could pick up the rocks/flint, and sometimes it would remain plugged.  I can only personally attest to crawling out of plugged sinkholes in that circumstance.

 

But it should probably be a consistent behavior, whether it's plugged or gets unplugged on emerging from it.

Hi absimiliard, could you send us your full logs from each of the servers, as well as your settings files? Are your caves and overworld servers on different machines, or the same one? Have you ever had trouble connecting to your overworld server, or is it just the caves one?

Have found a similar problem:

@K213, "server_port = 20052" is missing under [network] on the master settings, so the port ends up being 10999.

 

Also, a comment about blue mushtree forests in caves.

 

Here, SetDensityInRange sucks to control the spores. The spores follow you (or anything else) and get out of the range.

Given the huge amount of mushtrees spread tight over a huge area, they just keep popping out spores.

If it's winter and you are in a blue mushtree forest, your fps as a host will drop severely.

And by severely I mean from consistent 60 to consistent 20.

 

Clients will experience lag too. As they do with many entities on screen.

 

Red mushtrees are more spaced out, and green mushtrees aren't that many in comparison to both red and blue.

 

I was playing with a i5-3550 @ 3.30 Ghz.

Okay, I try one more time with all the information better formatted, sorry for the last posts. Would be nice if anybody could help :)

When I try to use a sinkhole I get an error on the master server, which tells me that there is player information missing, that causes the player to be brought to character-selection instead of the caves.

So! items to report: DST_Cavesbeta Works over LAN! You just can't let on to the game that you're playing over LAN. set it up as Lan_only_server = false, then look for it on LAN and voilá! presto chango, we all go to caves-oh.

 

However, when delving, don't crowd the stairwell. My wife and I couldn't both enter the caves at once or we'd get "Hmm, token error." When I went in by myself earlier, no problem. When we went in later, (different sinkhole, same world) Token Error. After logging back in and spelunking one at a time, it spawned us at a Jury-Rigged Portal. Weird. This turned out to be our ruination, as we had to go searching for a way back up, in winter, with dwindling supplies.

 

Also, is there any way for chester to come with us? Inventory management becomes a pain when dealing with the multitude of different items provided by the underground.

Also the master and slave where connected before, like I said, the problem lies somewhere with the user data, if you care to take a look at the master log from the post before that seems to be the only problem.

Since it says player data missing, here are whats in the directory it references in the player data missing error message:

Here is whats in the 0000000003 file, the minimap seem to be non-letters so its just gibberish:

But I still get the same error, are you guys sure, that the master_port and the network_port of the master have to be the same? Because, like I said they connect just fine when I chose different ports, Only the user data problem occours then...
