  1. 1. Would you miss it?

(Yes, I know. There is a way to turn it off in the world gen settings)

This is a very debatable subject, I would think, and I would like a thoughtful conversation.

Would anyone miss it if it were removed completely from the game? My DST group (there are 3 others in my server) and I were discussing Dragonfly and it came to the topic of summer in general and we all felt that the managing of flingomatics (planning placement and refueling) to be so.. draining. I do not think summer would be so brutal if it weren't for the smoldering mechanic and having to make lots of flingos for a big base to keep it safe.

What are your opinions?

I've only experience with smoldering a setting lower than standard, so I don't know how horrible it is by default. That said, I do have ice fling-o-matics covering the whole base on from the moment my character starts overheating and mainly use bed rolls as fuel that I've been preparing the rest of the year (alternatives: fleshy bulb, gloomer goop, poop, and beard hair in case of Wilson). It's not that big an effort. The only things I feel could be changed is a proper irregation system for the crop farm to prevent the plants from dying because the fling-o-matics don't help out with that and some way to get more fuel value out of twigs. Like if you could make a bundle of twigs and they'd be worth a little more than whatever amount of twigs they cost. I usually have a lot of twigs to spend, but I don't use them as fuel because it takes a lot of time to add multiple items.

Do you spend all spring preparing, getting fuel for flingos? What would other uses be for a bundle of twigs have besides fuel? When do you refuel the flingos? Hopefully I'm not asking too many questions.

Fall, Winter, and Spring. It's not a priority concern, just something to do while on the road or with a few hours at dusk to spare. A little depending on how many ice fling-o-matics I have and therefore how much time a round will take, I start refueling them with one bed roll each the second day after I've turned them on. This doesn't fully refuel them, so the fourth day it's about two bed rolls each. A bed roll is worth the same fuel value as Gloomer's Goop (I keep a Gloomer as pet for the supply) and fleshy bulb, so those save me some work if I can get them.

I suppose a bundle of twigs could be a weapon too. It's called a birch rod in English, I think? Would be a decent alternative for when your weapon breaks down and you're out of rarer supplies. Could also easily be tied to Krampus. But I mostly want it to reduce the number of steps to refuel with twigs like a bed roll does for grass.

Plain rope has the same burn value as a bed roll, but I may be mistaken.

I voted "yes", means I shall miss it, somewhat.

However, I think there is an issue.

Forest fires and such are perfectly fine. Though the nature gotta have the way to re-build itself after those, as it actually happens (which is not the case in the game, unfortunately - whichever burns, is burned forever)

My biggest objection about summer heat is getting dead in a matter of minutes even if there are no fires in the vicinity.

I tried to play the game starting with that ridiculous "summer" season. No way it was possible to survive for more than a very few days. Unlike spring, fall, and even the winter. There is something awkwardly wrong with "summer"

I'm sure that was a bug in 2013 that was fixed some time ago (I did try it!). :p

Back to the topic: I'd sorely miss it. It's the one mechanic that summer has that's actually... different. As many of you likely know, I feel that summer is a majorly underdeveloped part of the game - although hope still remains for it to be fleshed out in future DLC or good old plain updates. :)

Without smoldering, summer would well and truly be a reskin of winter - plus, I really like the look of ice flingomatics!

I'd miss it more if there was actually something to look forward to besides the Dragonfly (whom doesn't drop anything particularly useful)

I can deal with summer just fine it's just a pain in the arse since nothing grows back so it can ruin a world if you let it.

This! I really, really wish they'd rework the Summer. Cold fires are cool, but they're way too unrelatable and too similar to the normal ones, in terms of mechanics.
