What is haunting exactly?

Hey guys. I have been following DST development for quite some time now. One thing that i never understod was the haunting. What exactly is haunting, and what does it do?

When you've become a ghost you can haunt a lot of things ranging from trees to butterflies. It can give a random effect or do nothing noticable. I believe later on in DST development ghost players need to haunt whatever they come across in order to stay alive as a ghost (possibly only in permadeath enabled servers). Some hauntng effects:

 

- Cut a tree down

- Light a tree on fire

- Turn a tree into a treeguard(!)

- Turn a pigman into a werepig

- Turn a normal flower into an evil flower

- Light a butterfly on fire

- Wake up a sleeping tallbird

- Make an item move

- Track the koalefant by hunting the dirt piles

- Break rocks

- Make the pig king disaprove of your haunting :D

 

And plenty more!

Another cool haunt effect is changing the color of mushrooms. It's a 25% chance, and works both on picked and unpicked mushrooms.

 

I foresee this being very useful if you find a blue/green mushroom ring and want to convert half of it to the other type. You'd need a friend nearby with an ice staff, though, because you might light them on fire.

I felt like adding to the list

- Throws boomerang at nearby people

- Makes ranged weapons shoot ( darts cause the server host to crash, so don't do it)

- On spider dens it might catch fire, spawn a spider queen, or cause the spiders inside to attack anything close

- Hurts bee hive, causing killer bees to come out and attack anything nearby.

- Changes hounds into different types

- Causes most things to panic like they are on fire

- Causes mosquitoes to burst

 

Anyone have anything else to add?

Changes hounds!? That could be pretty useful in getting a tooth trap field set up earlier...
