One can't rely only on tablets and programs. Have a plain old scribble on paper!

And I had another idea! How about a Don't Starve Boardgame? I'm a real Boardgame junkie, will say I really enjoy playing complex boardgames. And while making Paper Don't Starve I thought of a Don't Starve Game.

I made this list, sorry for German I will try to translate it if you want me to. I think it could work and if anyone is interested I would post my ideas. I wasn't sure if I could post this in Suggestion because it isn't related to the game directly so I wanted to know if anyone is interested in my ideas.

I like the idea of the board game! I can't speak german!

Alright,

I try to translate my thoughts the best I can. Please ask if something sounds weird or plain wrong.  :lemo:

Don't Starve The Boardgame

I'm not quite sure about the possibility of Multiplayer. But there will be Singleplayer experience, one against the game. I have two games which I use as inspiration for the gameplay (''Agricola'' and ''Fury of Dracula'')

these are first thoughts about the possibilities please give me feedback and ideas if you like to

General structure

The player chooses his character and tries to survive and/or find the telepotatoe pieces to escape.

It is based on cards and the alocation of tokens (action and food)

The game is divided in Turns which stay for 1 Day, these turns are divided in two phases Day, and Night.

During daytime the player chooses 3(5) actions which include the gathering of ressources (grass, twigs, logs, rocks),

crafting, researching. at the end of each day phase the player has to eat (use up one food token) if he can't he looses one HP. Here we have the board, it is divided in a section where the base of the player is built (structures) and several sections containing the actions for gathering grass, twigs etc. where he can allocate the action tokens.

Example:

A new day, the player needs to gather food, so he uses one of his tokes on the bushes to gather berries, next he want to cook his berries to get more than one food token out of it so he places his second token on his firepit (which he has built in a previous turn of course) his last token he places on the crafting place to make an axe out of the materials he gathered. End of day phase, he has to eat one food token (...)

During the night the player goes exploring (he draws from a card stack)* and/or fighting mobs to gain ressources (monster meat, silk, living ogs etc.)

*it is possible to find setpieces (telepotatoe pieces, equipment etc.) or confront monsters, Maxwell

Combat System

The combat system also is based on cards (equipment which can be built from ressources like Spear and Log suit) and Action cards (which a drawn or can be buyed with food i.e. Pigmen companions)

This is because I don't like the plain aspect of luck in a Dice based Combat System, perhaps there is also ue for a dice but not entirely depending of this six sided devils ^^

It's like the player (Wilson) has 3 HP, (Wolfgang 4 and Wes 2 something like this)

Spiders got 1HP, Hounds 2HP, Leif and Queen* 5HP etc

*these are kinda special

A suit of armor allows the player to ignore a fixed number of hits like 2 for the gras suit, 3 for the log suit etc.

A weapon helps inflicting damage.

More to come...

I like it so far, but board games are fun only when played with others...

Yes and No, but I know things are much more fun in a group. The problem is should they play together or against each other and how can this be implemented in a game which should be a survival game like Don't Starve.

I would like if both options are possible, single play and multiplay.

Well if it was single play i would just...you know...play the video game. I was thinking of some kind of competition, but co-op against Maxwell would be good too. Edited by TeoSS69

So one player plays Maxwell and the others try to survive and escape? This would be more like a roleplay. Because the gathering and crafting with 1-4 players would need very much of fine tuning.

That could work, and brings strategy into play, like let Wolfgang starve and feed the others because he can take it.

I've heard of board games with that style, quite uncommon but can be rather popular amongst the right community

Yeah, I will keep thinking about it.

Yes, that sums it up quite exactly. I like such games. ^^
