Werebeaver 2 fast. That could cause some problems.

All of these points just confirm my opinion that public servers will be something to be avoided.

Private servers with friends working together and no trolls sounds good to me.

I really hope they implement some kind of adventure mode together thing so that groups can really be challenged. Maybe have insane giant spawn rates or something :p

If somebody only was interested in that....

He drops all his items when he transforms and when he turns back he has 1/3 the stats he had before. Why the hell would Woodie attack someone early game with that penalty? First off his stuff will be on the ground somewhere for someone else to steal, then he'd be running around looking for someone to finally kill. When he does (and he probably will unless Maxell or Wigfried get lucky), all that person's loot will drop on the ground and he's unable to pick it up since the werebeaver has no inventory so he has to stand around and wait to turn back while guarding the loot. BUT GUESS WHAT? All the loot is probably just sticks and grass and maybe an axe or a pick since you decided to kill someone in the early game. And now you're at a third health/hunger/sanity while your character-specific item may or may not still be way off on the other side of the map with the rest of your gear. Nice job.

Overall, not such a great strategy. It relies heavily on the person you're killing not having good gear, and if they don't have good gear then how will you have the food/healing items to fix the debuff you get from turning back into a human from werebeaver form? Woodie is more of a support than a fighting class, better suited for material gathering than killing things. Late-game anyone with nightmare gear can whoop his butt to force him to run away, and if they find where he transformed they get free stuff without having to kill you for it.

Also whoever said Willow can kill you with fire damage...you suck. Like really, stand a foot away from the fire and you're good. Most forests have small clearings here and there, and fire damage is REALLY low so you can literally just run through the blaze to the other side and be perfectly fine.

It's called someone wants to be a troll and kill other players immediately.

Also you kind of fucked your point of "Woodie drops all his stuff is a disadvantage" when you then go on to say "Early game the only loot others might get is grass or twigs"

What do you think Woodie would have been carrying early game as well? Character specific items don't seem to be usable by other players, so he is losing the same thing.

I also covered the point of "Once players have good gear, then Werebeaver is balanced" so you should try reading through the whole thread before making assumptions.

Edit: Especially if your going to insult people.

Please behave people.

It's simple. If Woodie goes all troll, the group agrees to respond as one, and together and hunt him down. He can only do it once before losing all his stuff and has to gather resources to chop trees to do it again or retrieve his stuff, and is notably weaker afterwards. Other players can "greet" his return of his stuff at the latter site.

So, can we move on from this? If a player wants to troll, they will find a way. It has nothing to do with a specific character. Other players as a group must put the beatdown on them to discourage it.

He'd lose Lucy. Whether other players can use it or not, he still doesn't have it. He basically traded one inventory of grass for another but lost his axe in the process. And if people are being trolls/not cooperating they'll end up kicked/banned on every server eventually anyways, so that'd be more your fault for letting them in/playing on a public server. Should've seen that coming.

It's a discussion, anyone can talk about this point or that point. Just because you said that players having good gear makes him balanced, doesn't mean no one else gets to talk about it. You really shouldn't talk on a forum with that mindset.

I only hope people don't end up having a predisposition to be stand-offish or hateful towards Woodie players just because of the Werebeaver curse. Or really any character because of their abilities. We can only hope that multiplayer rebalancing can resolve some inherent issues we've discussed in the past, while still keeping each character as functional as they always were.

I'd like it if all of us here at the very least could try to set a good example as a community and not make any character more infamous than they'll probably end up becoming anyways for the inevitable random griefing players on public servers. Regardless, every character has some capacity to grief others, and heck, half the point of the harsh seasons and giant encounters is to give you plenty of emotional grief by smashing your base or consuming valuable supplies. Players can just do so much more of that with ease and at any time as it currently stands, making it an unpredictable, difficult to prepare for event. Even a simple torch or hammer could burn/smash your entire base in seconds, so hopefully things like that will be a little less effective for players who didn't craft the structures themselves come DST, (again, keeping functionality with your personal constructions while limiting the ability of others to directly tamper with them) while keeping weather effects and giant attacks just as dangerous as ever for everyone.

Certainly, this being the official Don't Starve forums, we could set up some white-listed servers where trustworthy people can join up and not have to worry about the risk of encountering these issues unless they specifically want an anything goes, no rules world. Not only that, but with all of the adjustable settings that will be in DST itself when creating a server,  people will be able to find the right server and play the way they want to.

Actually, Woodie as co-op is immensely powerful! Just off the top of my head:

  • Imagine what a player could  dig up while in werebeaver form for others to relocate and plant?
  • Or how by gathering resources together, typical "non-edibles" now become a Werebeaver fuel source so he could tank giants?
  • Or if close to death (not in combat) but lacking healing materials, one could deliberately go werebeaver to not only survive longer, but restore health?

Mind you, this all hinges on player co-operation (and remembering two nights a cycle, they are going to be werebeaver whether they want to or not.)

when everything you need to destroy a base is 2 twigs and 2 grass, you know that the game's multiplayer will be a grief-fest. There's nothing they can do to prevent it without hindering many other possibilities of actions not related to griefing(say flash-fires or red hound). on the bright side keeping a player dead shouldn't be so hard, if the people from the server are cooperating, so punishing griefers is not so hard without resorting to the boringness of banning.
