Deerclops and help on other stuff.

Recommended Posts

Okay. This guy is a complete A-hole and I thought he's coming for me.I have never been so wrong. The moment he appeared on my screen is the moment he keeps on wrecking EVERYTHING I built and worked hard for.I am a newbie but I've been getting better and better, able to survive to Day 33 with RoG on obviously.

So, according to some guides, you need Gunpowder and Torch to take down this bastard, I can't simply visualize it properly and that was my first experience with Deerclops.Mind if you guys share some other guides or care to show me a demonstration? Would be nice. And I can't find enough resources for traps because I am stuck gathering wood, grass and twigs for the upcoming winter and then go out, collect Manure and spam them on Farms to get food.

So, yeah..after he broke everything down, I simply raged quit.Of course, I got mad but was able to vent it all out because I unlocked Webber. And I would like to try out this character.Would anyone care to share some insights and guides regarding this character? Thanks!

And need time manage guides between seasons..

Hi!

I have killed only three deerclops in my short history of Don't Starve, but I'm willing to share what I know. (Professor voice) Ze deerclops is a quite ferocious monstrosity that always seems to destroy the things we all have spent so long building. The best way to kill this beast is to lure it into a field of eye plants. Note: DO NOT bring the deerclops into a pig village. The pigs WILL eat all of the deerclops' loot. If you use the eye plants to your advantage, than you should be able to destroy the monster without taking any damage, and having its loot safely stored inside the eye plant's bulb. HOWEVER! I have not attempted this is RoGs. If Klei updated the abilities of the deerclops than I am afraid my tactics won't work.

Hope it helped. Happy hunting.

Using lots of gunpowder plus a torch is a good way, provided you have made sure the Deerclops is either asleep (sleep darts/panflute) or frozen with an ice staff (Is Clops freeze immune in RoG? I have not encountered him yet in RoG. If so the sleep darts or panflute are the prefered choice). Also, when you hear him, try to get as far away from your base as possible...

Ok, so first thing you need to do, not just with Deerclops but with ALL the Giants. When you hear them growling to announce they're gonna spawn... run! Run as far as you can and get away from your base. 3 out of the 4 will destroy your base in no time at all. Doesn't matter what else your doing... Drop it and run. Make torches if you have to just run.

Now that your far away from your base, you have 2 options.... run some more or man up and fight!! If they giants aren't aggro'd on you, you should be able to run back to your base and avoid them. If your ready to fight your gonna need a few things. Armor (2) and weapons (2) Healing Salve/Jerky (Handful). Probably some kind of Sanity repair for after.

If you have the resources you can use the pan flute, sleep darts or ice staff to freeze. Drop the gunpowder (9), light and run. After the explosion, run up and tank him a few good hits and you'll get his drops.

If your feeling froggy, there's a gif a page or 2 back that shows how to kite most of the giants. This is where the 2 sets of armor and weapons, healing stuff come in handy.

As far as time management.... I like to explore as much as I can and find a base area by day 7 at the latest. Depending on which season you start in, bee boxes (autumn) are the first thing I like to get going... mostly cause it takes a day or 2 to collect a bunch of bees and butterflies. After that I work on a getting a ice box then farms and bird cage. The Whole time collecting grass, twigs, gold and silk. Once I get that up and running, I prepare for winter by making a hat and a thermal stone. Then a ton of logs.

Basically what you want to do is constantly prepare for the next season... If your in Autumn and done getting ready for winter, look to spring and start collecting rain gear stuff. Got that done? Make another ice box and start loading it up with ice for summer. Kill spiders whenever you see them. Mine rocks when you come across them as well.

After the first DS year you'll be in good shape and know what you need, so things will be easier.

Hope this helps and good luck!

For the deerclops I usually go with a log suit(2),spears(If I don't have tentacle spikes) and a football helmet(2).

Then I attack him 1 times,he will attack me back . I run behind him to dodge the ice attack then I attack 2 times I dodge again,I repeat that again and again untill he die,of course if the night is comming I just use(If you have one)a miner hat then I attack with my log suit equipped of course,or I just run untill the next day is comming.then I'm good to re-attack and it will be dead without problem. It depends what character you are using.

I haven't really encountered any Lure/Eyeplants during the first couple of weeks in the world.I don't know where to find them!

So that leaves me to collect resources gunpowder and Sleep darts. Thanks guys! But would like to hear what others have to share.

If you have enough food, wood and warm enough clothes to last a few days out of your base, you can lure him to a swamp by aggroing him and running. The tentacles will hit him, he'll kill them, rinse and repeat until he's dead. Less tentacles and giant's loot in the end. That's the least costly strategy resource-wise, but it will take two or three days of running around, making fires to not freeze.

It works for every giant, as long as you have enough food and seasonal stuff on you to survive these two or three days. Just make sure you don't go away of the giant during that time, or he'll probably just despawn.

Deerclops is probably the easiest to kite, so you can also just attack him. Hit him twice, run away until he has done his attack, hit him twice again, rinse and repeat.

Nope, only one hit...one and the M/G is very easy too... So,  don't use gunpowder! It's ...blah! Use melee weapons (kiting), boomerang, blow darts(winter is the easier for that, just farm mactusk), tooth trap(nice but i never try...) , marsh(very usefull but never tried), eyeplants are goods(but you need a LOTS!) or even the most powerfull weapon of the world! Old bell... But the better way to kill it is your favourite because if you don't like it(the way of killing, deerclops is just a poor deercyclop who has his legs tricked by anything, firepit etc), you will not enjoy the win...

But remember, don't let him hit you twice...

When you hear a giant coming (or fire hounds)... the first thing you should do is LEAVE YOUR BASE.

Especially Bearger, who can wreck a large base with a very small number of AOE attacks.

If you want to kite and kill giants, make sure to bring a stack of jerky with you. Not only for the healing but also the sanity, since boss monsters have a massive sanity drain aura.

Also, bring two log suits and one football helmet.

on the road or with walking cane?

LIke NotCrazy said, you don't need either to get 2 hits in on the deerclops while kiting.

Also Gunpowder CAN be useful against giants if you are careful. (unless i totally misread your post and you were not saying it was useless against giants)
