Sarxis
The recent February update has made some of the mods I've installed unusable and crash the game. These mods enhanced Don't Starve for me in ways that were greater than what the update added (the expanded start options mod by _Q_ had better options than what the update added). So now, I am stuck with the problem of trying to reorganize and fix the mods I've installed to see what will work with this update. And for this same reason I have no intention of getting the Giants DLC - the added content isn't worth making my game unplayable again. Strangerdanger101
It's perfectly fine to not get the DLC, but not getting it because of mods not working.... that's not a very good reason. That should be expected of something that is still in beta. Maybe the mods will be updated to work with the DLC? Who knows? Seriously though, i don't think this is a good reason for that. Pretty sure you can live without mods for a while at least.... But opinions are opinions. Rosten
People got upset that mods were broken when minecraft updated, you can't blame the devs for wanting to make their game better at the cost of breaking some thing that someone else did not relating to them at all, would you like for DS to still be at spoiled rotten because they didn't want to mess up a mod? Misaki
Steam is not forcing you to buy DLC, does it?You can keep All's Well That Maxwell forever, no automatic update will break your mods ever again. Syd
You can disable automatic updates for Don't Starve by right clicking on it and going to its properties. It is not Klei's responsibility to keep mods working with the game as it's updated, it's the responsibility of the modders that create those mods. oCrapaCreeper
About 90% of the 30 mods I had installed still worked with Reign of Giants installed, the rest are already updated. It really isn't as bad as you're making it out to be. The way the game handles mods is probably the best it could get, and it's not even Klei's responsibility to maintain mods. Either way, updates not even remotely close to the definition of "ruining". Having your playstyle revolve entirely around mods is a risk you took in a game that is frequently changed or improved by its developers. Tumalu
Mods that the creators still care about at all will surely get updated to work with Reign of Giants after it's released, before too long. The only issue is the in-between time where the game just updated and the mods aren't updated yet, which there's ways around Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/33324-how-steam-updates-are-ruining-the-game-for-me/#findComment-435914 Share on other sites
jbeetle
Don't worry. When the game is dead and no longer being updated, you'll be as happy as a clam. 23rd
I knew this post was going to be hilarious as soon as I saw the title. Klei makes it extremely clear that they're not responsible for mods. A huge warning saying as much jumps in your face if you click the mod section after opening the game. Rosten
Imagine how horrible it would be if klei DID have to make sure every mod was working before updating, we'd probably have just gotten Progress! Sarxis
Meh, You guys are right - I like the game enough that I want to keep on playing. I'll just take a break, start with a clean install after the DLC comes out, and start rebuilding my mods library and my own personal tweeks and rebalances. And thanks _Q_ for your work!
