MAKE A STORY ABOUT THE RUINS IN DREAMING OF ELECTRIC BUNNIES PT 3 FEATURING THE FORUMS AND ZOMBIES.

Getting a little out of hand there TMHH, I doubt I'll ever be writing a story about forum members. Also Episode Part 3 delayed until I explore the Ruins more thoroughly. I want to build up an intense atmosphere for when I eventually do finish up all that rot.

23rd's Zombie Bonanza

Chapter 1: But first, rabbits and a robot!

The caves were damp and cold, but the Bunnyman village was warm and inviting. They'd created a defensible area around their hutches and taken Wendy in when she was scared and alone, she was thankful for that. When she'd wished to have Abigail back with her a shambling bloodthirsty monster wasn't what she had in mind, she found herself missing the time when her sister was a just a ghost. Dainty bare feet tapped against the soft indigo ground, a weary sigh escaping her. Her hair fell in strands around her face, clothes torn and ragged. How long had she been down here? Months, maybe years? She didn't know, but she never felt more alone in her life, even if the Bunnymen did everything they could to cheer her up. Then one day she found a spot of hope in the Ruins.

She'd been escorted by a Bunnyman named Crusader, a funny little name but fairly appropriate, when they found it. It sat in a crumpled heap, deactivated and cold. "The robot had done something unspeakable to one of our own.. but desperate times call for desperate measures." The bronze being was missing a handful of gears it would need to start running again and there was an empty gap in the middle of its open chest. Together, they hauled it back up to the village in the caves, bringing a helping of gears they'd found lying about with them.

Everything was in place. Well, almost everything. Wendy cradled Abigail's flower, tenderly placing it within the empty space in the robot's chest before switching it on. The Bunnymen were uneasy, but excited all the same. Wendy let out a deep breath, readying herself as she closed the panel, watching the mechanical man stir and twitch.

"DIGESTIVE MODULE: ONLINE, THOUGHT MODULE: ONLINE, EMPATHY MODULE: ..ONLINE." It collapsed onto its hands and knees suddenly, the Bunnyman that had crowded to see it come online jumping backwards in fearful surprise. "OH GOD, WHAT HAVE I DONE?" For a face frozen in a single expression WX-78 sure could display a range on emotion. Wendy was worried that she wouldn't be able to get any help from it until she heard its processed synth of a voice ringing in her ears again. "MEMORIES DELETED."

They all stood around, waiting for something else to happen. Nothing did. Finally, after a long uncomfortable silence, Wendy spoke us. "The people up there have turned into.. living corpses. Can you help us?" WX-78 tilted its head to the side, and for a second Wendy could swear she heard the gears turning in its head. "ACCEPTED. LEAD THE WAY HUMAN."

-

The last bit of flesh falls from a shambling corpse on the surface. Now it's just a skeleton in a formal suit, carrying a strange book it knows nothing about. It has no stomach, but it hungers. It hungers desperately. Bones scrape against the ground with each step it takes, wandering close to a sinkhole barricaded with moist rock.

-

The robot was amazing. It could leap, sprint, roll, all without losing its stride. She found herself struggling to keep up! Finally they were at the rope leading to the surface, the group of Bunnymen who had been so kind of her bidding her farewell. This was their home, they had to defend it. She understood. The two intrepid adventurers climbed the rope in front of them, finding themselves in a makeshift fort of wet rock with a healthy supply of carrots prepared for them. They saw it shambling around outside.

She could swear the thing looked familiar, but without any flesh it was hard to tell. The clothes, though, they reminded her of someone.. WX-78 was the first to act, wasting no time in crawling through the hole in the rock fort. With one swift punch metal collided with bone, the sound reverberating into the air around it. Even in life this zombie had been frail, and it crumbled into a pile at its feet. Wendy had just gotten out of the fort herself when she noticed the Things were scattered around it, all four of them. She squealed in excitement and ran to grab each of them, piling them into the makeshift backpack on her back. "Come on, I just found our ticket out of this place!"

She'd bounded off so fast she didn't even notice the book clutched in the crumpled skeleton's arms, but WX-78 did. It picked up the black book, running its cold bronze fingers along the red M embroidered across the front. "CODEX UMBRA.. INTERESTING."

I don't think I can fit everything I want to in just one story.

Unruly Pets

Seems that Max was way more successful in fighting those things in your story than in mine..! xD

I love the way you described the battle, all the details are so well thought out! ^w^

23rd's Zombie Bonanza

Chapter 1: But first, rabbits and a robot!

I'm looking forward to read more!

Reading this story (or these stories) feels almost the same as solving Klei's puzzle-mysteries: everything comes together one piece at a time, yet it feels like you still know nothing, and it makes you hungry for more..!

As a character, Wendy is someone I'd really like to know better. So I'm super excited about this chapter!

And I wonder how will WX-78 act now, when he has emotions, but deleted his memories (I hope I got that right), especially with such a dangerous book in his hands... >_<

So exciting!!!

It's Christmas and I'm inebriated. Feels good. Here's the next part of the zombie story, Merry 25th everybody!

23rd's Zombie Bonanza

Chapter 2: This is getting bananas

So there Wendy was, racing to the portal that would get her home on the back of an incredibly fast robot. The dusk had come, and she came to learn a fascinating fact. Specifically, that of the separation of soul and body. When Wendy first saw the still fresh corpse of Abigail she assumed Abby's ghost wouldn't still be there to protect her, but on the way through a swamp she would come to realize that her assumption had been wrong after all.

There had been a lot of run-down houses, something that she recognized as dangerous before the outbreak, but the merms' behavior had changed severely. They used to just send one of their brethren out a night, taking turns as they scouted the area around for dangerous spiders of tentacles that would rise from the ground. Now all five of the scaly amphibians that used to occupy the beaten house had come out to wander aimlessly about the area, their idle walking stilted and shambling as opposed to the squishy sounding jot they usually had. Upon noticing the two living things left within reach they burst into a full sprint, jaws hanging listlessly as they gained ground on the two despite the robot's impressive speed. Assuredly trapped with inadequate weapons to defend themselves was leaving the situation, then the familiar ghost appeared. "Ab- Abby?!"

It was impossible to mistake her for some other apparition, the wilted bow that appeared with her spectre made sure of that. The attention of the flesh hungry merms was drawn towards Abigail, giving WX-78 just enough headway to find a run and leave their pursuers behind.

-

It was just going to be one night on the surface. Night had been dangerous enough as it was. Killing any enemy in the constriction of a campfire was tough enough when it was just one, but the two knew from dealing with rabid dogs and angered nests of spiders that fighting a group was near suicidal. Now with the widespread affliction, whatever it was that caused it, everything from bunnies to koalefants to wander in a shambling gait into their cone of safety. Wendy found herself missing Willow, to her surprise. She didn't think the memories of her former friends would get to here, but the small campfire reminded her of how Willow would run about, gleefully lighting up whatever lay on the ground and inadvertently making is much easier to see. She'd rarely been afraid of the creature that lurked beyond the darkness, but with Willow she had felt safer. Not so much now.

They'd begun groaning while they were cooking the supply of carrots and bananas they'd foraged for below the surface when the first wave came. It was just a bunny at first, hardly a threat. WX-78 only had to kick it once for it to keel back over. Hardly the most threatening thing in the world, but it was obvious eating the morsel it became would be a mistake. Then more bunnies came, lots more. Three, then ten, then fifteen.. Wendy had to duck behind the robot, shielding herself as she made a spear. This was just a sign of things to come, her companion might not recognize the signs after whatever put him in the Ruins, but she sure could. Then the thudding footsteps started.

Deerclops in Summer.

---

Made this one pretty short so I can take the time to sit down and make the next chapter all about Zombie Deerclops later today. Now I'm off, to presents and Chinese food!

You really do give me the best reviews. Well, tied for the best reviews, if I'm being honest. I'll make sure WX-78 gets its chance to figure out how the Codex meshes with it when it's fighting something as dangerous as good ol' Dearie, I can promise that. Of course, there are still things more devastating to run into than a Deerclops in a setting like this.

Hey, 23rd!

Here's my Christmas gift to you

My Dad's Side of the Family: CHRISTMAS EDITION

So I got my Christmas gift, which was a little flying ball. My cousin (Jacks) was playing with it. I asked Jacks for it back, but he wouldn't give it to me. When he dropped it, I picked it up, and walked away. Later in his room, my brother asks for help with his. Jacks says "No." My brother asks "Why?" Jacks says "Because your brother was being a jerk and now I can't help you because of him." I say "(Brother's Name), Jacks is just being sensitive. He'll help you later." Then Jacks says "Wanna get handcuffed and beaten?" I say "Sure, go ahead, see how that works out for you." So, he grabs his handcuffs and gets one of my hands, but is good enough of a sport to let me turn off my phone and put it on his dresser. So I think [That was nice. I'll go easier on him.] So he's riding me like a horse, sitting on my back with my right hand. So I jump back like a horse bucking off a rider. I didn't mean to fall all the way down, but he pulled me. We both fall on his mattress, and of course, being my luck, I land right on a toy helicopter controller. IT HURT. A LOT. I say "OH MY GOD!!! Ooooooo that burns... What did I fall on?!?!" Jacks says "The controller." And I say "Oh man, that hurts. CURSE YOU CONTROLLER!!" So we flip over, he's on my back again, and I think [Okay, that's enough. I'm done.] So I flip him over, and now I'm on top of him. The handcuffs are still on my right hand, and trying to put my hand on the ground to get back up, the handcuffs smack him right in the head. Jacks says "Get out of my room right now." I say "Okay." And walk right out.

30 seconds later I hear screaming down the hallway, and go to check it out. I see Jacks leaning over the sink freaking out while a tiny little nick behind his ear is gushing blood like nobody's business.
But we made up, I apologized, and the party carried on.
(SO MUCH BLOOD)

I copy/pasted that from my status.

23rd's Zombie Bonanza

Chapter 3: Hunt

It roared, it stomped, it made all manner of wretched noises. A rotting Deerclops was something to worry about, there was no denying that. Wendy was cowering, looking around for any sign of Abigail to come and save her. WX-78 just ran its metallic digits over the Codex, staring down the abomination that towered over them. It wasn't afraid, it had no idea why but it wasn't afraid.

Maxwell would never have thought, but the powers within the Codex are not a conscious. It cannot tell if the wielder has a soul or not, nor does it account for how this will affect the magic it casts. For beings of flesh and spirit, this is hardly a problem. A little less sanity, a little more bloodlust; the Codex is nothing a person can't handle in spaced out uses. However, WX-78 was not a person. Nobody would expect the horrifying results of a soulless automaton using dark spells meant for man.

Pages turned on their own, expulsing shadows at an alarming rate. Gears loudly churned within the robot's carapace, bolts unscrewing themselves held in place by seemingly nothing at all. The deep crevices it saw from flashed purple, then white, then black. With two booming words, the dynamic of power shifted dramatically.

"SyStEm OvErLoAd!"

Light burst from every opening in the robot's body, tendrils of black snaking out and wrapping around its joints, holding them in place as bolts fell to the ground. It leaped higher than should be possible, digits digging into the sides of the gargantuan zombie's eye as a metallic wail rung out, pitch growing higher and higher the longer it went on.

Deerclops was already a primal beast, the infection only served to further that. But despite this, it still felt fear. Massive, all consuming fear. Claws smashed into the ground, bucking its entire body forward in an attempt to fling the robot away. It was no use. The harder Deerclops struggled, the more aggressive WX-78's assault became. Squishy bits of eye were torn out, blinding the beast and causing it to scream in agony.

Finally, Wendy couldn't take it anymore. The whir of the gears, the shrill screams of the robot, the agonizing bellows of the once dead Deerclops dying a second time.. it was too much. She ran, off into the darkness. She would take her chances with Charlie, with the rest of the zombies; she would take on anything at all to get away from this.

Pentagram, A.K.A my tribute to Cake

Your feasty eyes won't make me fall apart..

Willow stared at the blue hound in front of her, growling and snarling in the light of the rising moon. A wicked smile painted over her lips, thumb erratically lighting her lighter over and over again. Fire, no fire, fire, no fire.

Your turquoise and silver won't weaken this old heart..

She wasn't scared of the stupid mutt, that blue gem in its belly was going to be her ticket out of this place! The last piece she needed, and the portal the rest had taken before her would swallow her up, taking her with them. She'd see her friends again, maybe she would even get to go home!

Yeah, dancing and chanting in a sacrificial rite..

When she was finished with it, the mutt fell to the ground. Fur was singed, deep cuts under its wild mane of hair. Willow licked her lips in impatient anticipation, fingers prying open the hound's chest wound as a bright blue gemstone greeted her. She reached in to grab it, freezing blood trickling down her sleeve as she rooted around inside of the carcass. There, got it!

I fell to the ground on a windy, windy night..

It felt like a hurricane had immediately enveloped her once she got her hands on it, the red gem she'd kept in her skirt's pocket glowing brightly. She tried to get up off her knees, to fight the wind. She yanked her arm backwards, blue gem, along with several loose organs, flew back to splatter her face and neck in cherry red fluid. The wind was dying down.

Well I have passed the test just like all the rest,

She'd done it! She knew she wasn't in the place they'd all been stuck in before. The ground was different, the air smelled danker, the idle chirps of birds and rustling of trees was nowhere to be heard. Now, time to take a look around. Oh, she just couldn't wait to catch up with all the others!

But never really understood the reasons why..

It took a while for her eyes to adjust to the dim lighting around her. Finally she stumbled upon a source of light, a barely flickering lantern that lay carefully placed in the middle of a hallway in front of her. Wait, a hallway? She was indoors now? Brick flooring.. moss growing from the walls. Some sort of dungeon? Willow picked up the dying lantern, the light suddenly growing brighter and illuminating the pile of bones that lay at the end. The bones of her friends.. something behind her roared.

..I took it in the first place.
