Would be cool to have shallow waters off the beaches which you can walk and swim a bit in. Only in the shallows because deep waters should be for BOATS! :D Maybe craft some snorkeling gear from leather and glass via heated sand which has been mentioned. Could add shellfish like clams or oyster, small fish, crabs, sea turtles. All of which used as food and crafting such as shells for an amulet, turtle shell as a bowl or even armor. Not to mention the added dangers that could be in the shallows, like bull sharks, electric eels. Thoughts?

This would be a nice addition. I hate being restricted, I wish this game would generate newer areas.. ( Yes, like minecraft. ) It just brings more fun into the game, maybe we could have a rare biome and that would encourage you to keep exploring and generating new areas.

Well as anyone who knows me will tell you, I support beaches. In fact, I think that should be the next biome that should be added. Of course "winter" may create its own biome, in which case that one has higher priority... but right afterwards, beaches!

Beaches would be great, let me tell you, because of all the wonderful unique resources that we could associate with them. All sorts of things could end up washed ashore, like: message bottles, seashells, clams, coconuts, driftwood, and seaweed. And if we have beaches then we could add new creatures like the giant crab or turtle. It could lurk in the sand, waiting to pop up when a player accidentally digs it up while search sand mounds on the beach.

Other than than that, obviously a treasure chest would be a great find to dig-up. It could be filled with gold ore and a pirate's hat. What am I suggesting the pirate hat do? Nothing! It just makes you look extra pirate-y... which if we had boats would be extra cool.

Boats! That's a good idea. ;)

Maybe one day the land bridges will be eliminated and players can travel from island to island the way God intended... by boat and/or raft.

Those are all interesting options. I'll assume that swimming during winter would be bad for your Health?

I like the idea of sharks. I know when I discussed threats at sea I dismissed sharks because they could really get to you... however if you're swimming in the sea then obviously they could.

Your suggestion, which I really like, made me think of those old diving suits.

Now there's a thought. I saw another indie game about the "last fisherman"... it was a Kickstarter project that did very well for itself... anyway, in the game you could descend into the sea in an old diving suit. Now with those old suits oxygen is pumped from above down the hose... so there wouldn't really be an oxygen supply meter. However I assume you wouldn't be able to eat while in your suit... so your Hunger meter should work to get you out of the water before you starved.

You could explore the sea floor... collecting coral, capturing aquatic species, avoiding sharks, and exploring sunken ships. There would be lots of fun things to do.

Also, the deeper you went the darker it would be. Now elevation isn't really in the cards for Don't Starve, but if they ever introduce underground caverns it could work the same way. Only instead of a crevasse on the island you would find it on the sea floor and descend it via transition. In such an area it would be dark and players would need a light source... maybe firefly... maybe electric (an old idea about weather and thunderstorms, suggested a machine with a lightning rod that collecting energy from lightning strikes to charge something... maybe a battery). Anyway... just some things to think about.

Deep underwater could be pretty cool, have a loading screen that takes you too a separately generated world in the same gameplay style, except with your spiffing diving suit on.

I'd assume it would also be constantly dark down there, so maybe something like the mining helmets built in light. :p

Underwater areas? Like... caves... filled with water? I see what you did there :D

I don't know what you're on about.

Look, if there's water and it just so happens to be filling underwater areas... like caves... then I certainly wouldn't complain. In fact, to get the most out of these "cavern-like" assets, Klei could, I don't know, create underground caverns that aren't underwater. I even have a few ideas on what they could do...

Underground caverns, underground water filled or partially filled cavers, and shallows along some or all the beaches, I like it all.

Exactly. You need beaches to get into the shallow water with your boat and when you dive you can find underwater caverns that lead into underground caverns that you climb out of through a crevasse to find yourself on a volcanic island.

It's some kind of unbreakable chain of ideas...

I would think tar is best for sealing gaps between boards in a boat. Maybe tar could be found bubbling in pools on a volcanic island perhaps?

That´s a great idea. The first (i think, correct me if i¨m wrong) reason to need to go to a volcanic island. Tar could be used on advanced torches to make them burn longer. hmm, actually, maybe the sap would be better for that since it was actually used for that lol.

what´s some other uses for tar people? not, tar-people.. haha

speaking of volcanic islands, would there be a use for lava? or maybe volcanic rock use for better arrow heads etc..

I don't see anything that could possibly go wrong with ideas like this. More interesting gameplay that doesn't really distract from the point. Because the only real point is to survive. The more exploration and things to explore on your own i think the better. I was fairly disappointed that fishing poles were not to get me into the ocean. But to get me into the swamps.

I'll do you one better, Every season it should erupt giving us an infinite supply of rocks on a long counter.

That´s an interesting idea, a light coating of ash everywhere and rocks raining down, possibly destroy things. Also, it´s been mentioned that lava rivers might spawn and possibly destroy the players stuff if you build too close to the volcano.
