Consistent save file corruption D: (could use advice)

Recommended Posts

It seems that, since the last few updates, i've started running into constant cases of save file corruption ruining a playthrough.

Pretty much, every three days, a save file will get corrupted, making it totally unusable. I am unsure why this is happening, and I no longer have the associated log file, either.

Currently using the latest steam version. Trying to pin the actual problem down has been very difficult, as I cannot force a save file corruption, it just seems to happen whenever it feels like it, which is every three days or so.

It may possibly be a mod, but i'm not sure. I'm going to remove all the mods and try to make a single save file last a week.

Any ideas on how to pin down this problem? Because otherwise, it looks like this may take weeks to resolve Dx

This is General Discussion. Future forum support for technical issues need to be done in the Bug Tracker area. This reply may or may not be moved there by Moderators.

Backup your save files elsewhere, then delete them from your Steam save area. Then make the same number of new games as you have save files and overwrite those save files from your backup.

if that fails, you have some corrupt temp files and you may need to  re-install them. With Steam, there is the simple way if it's an app updating issue and then there's the clean install way.

The (we all hope it works) simple way is to start Steam and go into the Don't Starve properties in your game Library (in windows  by right-clicking Don't Starve in your Steam Library,) selecting  Local Files, and clicking "Verify Integrity of Game Cache."

Should that fail, go back there and choose "Backup Game Files," exit out of Steam, and go over to Klei's Forum or email form Support area for more assistance. You may need to remove and re-download/re-update the game, but it's best if support guide you with other suggestions first/walk you through the steps before having to do that. Also, if they need for you to send copies of your save games or any other files, this link can help you.

I almost put it in bug tracker, but it's a modded game, and I wasn't really sure if it would be a good idea to post it there, becuz mods.

I got two questions for you:

1.) Do you use the steam version and let everything shutdown and sync with the could properly?

2.) Do you have any anti-virus software that might be messing with this. (maybe it scans every three days?)

That's my two cents.

So stupid question time, but when you disable the mods, does the saving not corrupt?

Who knows? This seems to have a mind of it's own. I'll TRY, but i'm not expecting much.

Yes, and no, in that exact order.

With the possibility that this could be a cloud sync error assumed true, it's a good idea for you to turn off the cloud sync for testing purposes.

Random unrelated edit... I need to stop squatting on these forums answering everything and get a life. xD

Lol, the last ten comments or so.

It happened again......here's the error page text:

data/scripts/saveindex.lua:363: Corrupt Save file[survival_1]

Also, game cache is fine, and after the corruption, the save deleted itself, so the first method Truthseeker provided didn't work D:

And also, steam cloud sync is off. I'm trying a non-mod save. If this gets corrupted, i'm moving it over to bug tracker.
