Unless you don't care about the 7 less damage, I find the Lazy Explorer to be bette

I've never seen the Lazy Explorer.  I was under the impression you had to go into the caves to get one?  I never use the cane as a weapon so the damage difference is irrelevant to me.

It's one of those fancy Ancient items. You actually have to use a Walking Cane to craft it but you can use it to teleport around the screen at your fancy, it still gives the speed bonus as well. Wonderful way to use up any extra Walrus Tusks you have lying around.

Walking Cane, Lantern/mining helmet, Wooden Armor/Dapper Vest (depending on summer/winter), Every tool except pitch fork/hammer, logs(winter for heat)/Heating Stone(winter heat), tam o shanter for winter as well.  Darksword/ Tentacle Tail (only vs hard mobs)

On the contrary, honey poultice is great because it doesn't spoil, takes up 1 inventory slot, can stack up to 40, heals a substantial amount of health and is easily renewable. The only thing holding you back would be the positions of reeds, but even then it's usually an occasional sweep of the marshlands to collect them. You aren't gonna use every last one of them for darts anyway.

Actually, the cane does default 17 damage. If you're gonna try to be smarter than everyone else, then please stick to the facts.

And the Lazy Explorer does 10, hence "7 less damage". If you don't know the facts then don't act like you're smarter than anyone else. So, for the second time in this thread : You have no idea what you're talking about.

Healing Salve doesn't spoil either and it heals twice as much... and is much cheaper to make.

Still don't get why in the world people waste all their paper on honey poultice. Healing Salve is cheaper AND Heals more. You could be using those reeds to craft blow darts. Also why would you even bother with a pumpkin lantern when the new lantern is vastly superior.

Also FYI I guess you don't know this but that teleporter staff isn't going to work underground, and you really, really should have a miner hat for down there.

You do realise that the pumking lantern looks awesome and it exists in the game mostly for decoration? Games are not all about winning.

You have no idea what you're talking about :-)

For the 3rd time : You have no idea what you're talking about.

Why is seeing you say this to the same guy three times in one thread so entertaining? I can't help but love it for some reason.

On the topic of the thread, once I have reliable Dragonfruit productions up and running I always keep two or three Dragonpies handy wherever I go, unless it's Winter. In that case I always leave the base with an (un)healthy supply of Monster Jerky.

That's all the he gets for bashing on other players playstyles when his own logic is flawed.

I use dragonpies only in caves so i don't have to worry about surprise bunnies. Once i explored all the map i go back to Bacon & Eggs though since i get plenty of monster meat form spiders and Depth Worms. I prefer Bacon&Eggs because they're the slowest spoiling food, and for Wolfgang the longer food lasts the better.

I had no idea Bacon & Eggs had such a slow spoil time. Looking it up I'm seeing it's just as long as Jerky! Looks like I'll be putting Smallbird kidnapping to my list of things to prioritize.

It will provide full bonuses for 10 days for normal characters and 20 days for WX-78. That means that for normal chars you can carry up to 10 of them in your inventory and have food for 10 days without any of them getting yellow, or store up to 20 of them in the ice-box.

The recipes is cheap too as you can use 3 monster meats and a morsel (or even 4 monster meats some times), as long as you have a bird cage. Where to get morsels is your choice. Birds, rabbits or fish are among the most popular sources.

Some basic tools (Spear/tentacle spike, axe, pickaxe, shovel, etc.), a honey ham or two (Jerky or bacon and eggs for long trips), sticks and logs and grass, and then whatever other misc. stuff I have clogging up my inventory. Beyond those basic supplies, I'm not very organized. Sometimes I'll bring some manure, too, as emergency campfire fuel.

Do you bring tools with you even in the late game?

Earlier on in my worlds I use bacon and egg mostly for it nice 20 health it provides along with a decent amount of hunger. Later though I find Honey/Jerky combo is superior and equally easy to get. Every few days I start a pig civil war and end up with 30+ meat so you know jerky and well it very entertaining to watch. Honey last for 40 days and provides some sort of health bonus that can become significant over time. Even with the ease in which you can get monster meat, I think you could get honey/jerky just as quick as it would take you to pick up the monster meat turn part of it into egg then pop into the croc pot. Although I might be a bit biased since I like specialized things.

Yep. Never know when you're going to need them.

I find myself not needing them every time later in the game. Axe and shovel stay in my mini-forest while pickaxes i leave in caves...

Yeah, honey is OP. And jerky completely nulifies the need for Taffy and Punpkin Cookies...that's silly.

Fully agree, Pumkin lantern looks awesome...but from a practical standpoint mostly worthless with what we got now. Even Glow Berries emitting light as a Light Bulb last 5 days if dropped on the ground and kept from veggie-eating denizens (so why use pumpkins when you can use almost anything else light-emitting that lasts much longer? The answer: Aesthetics, and in time for Halloween!)

Not going to get sucked into something like this again here on two sides, so I'll do this:

Notice the healing amount of the Salve compared to the Poultice (20 vs 30.)

Moving on...

As a WX-78 player I welcome all others who embraced the brotherhood of the Bacon and Eggs.

When all Humans are destroyed, you will be the last ones destroyed :-)

I mean...good point on later game honey-jerky combinations! (But even WX has have a moment of empathy for the pigs killing one another before the chip shorts out again.)

I still like pumpkin cookies though until I can build up enough pig houses for a good Jerky supply, unless I build very close to a Beefalo and the herd is large enough (bigger than 5, leaving enough left after killing to realistically reproduce.) And now we can have the pigs follow us underground, it removes the need to build and destroy the pig homes in the caves....

Don't push your luck robot  I used to make Honey Ham as it used one of each ingredient nicely, but since the SNP update Wolfgang needs to bring food with him so the slowest spoiling one was the best choice...

I keep making them simply because 20 drying racks don't look cool in my base.
