So let's talk about Depth Worms.

Thoughts on the mob and drops? Any strategy to deal with the waves?

I thought they was gonna be like the Lureplant and attack you only if you get too close but so far they're just hunting me down like the hounds do. My strategy for now is just to keep some bunnies close since they seem to attack them on sight, but even they can't handle 6 at a time, especially when they don't kite.

The light fruit is almost useless. If i have enought light to fight agains the worm i have enough light to don't need its light fruit. And the fact that it spoils is annoying, i mean the light bulb spoils too but they are easy to get and refuel a lot of the lantern, so you can save fuel for later.

Hmmm, either make it refuel the lantern or be cooked to make a super light meal. On the other hand you get 6 every 3 days...

Refueling the lantern, Yes super light meal, No. As you said its easy to get a good number of them in a small time period, just making it become fresh-ier would be a start, and the only (or most common) situation when i'll eat it will be when i need to fight, so i would have both slots free to use.

I have only encountered them in the ruins. They can get a bit difficult to manage. Especially with fissures now and hallucinations being able to spawn almost all over the ruins having to deal with worms and terror beaks isn't an easy task. I had two after me the instant I entered the ruins. They killed Chester since he refused to move even with me running away he just stood there. I wasn't getting attacked by all of them, even if I got right up to them while passive they didn't do anything about it. Didn't expect that there would be that many of them.

I cleared my ruins before the update so only in caves for me, and they act like hounds. You hear them growling in the distance and after a while they start attacking you. It's a steady supply of meat but they're really annoying to fight. Especially as Wolfgang.

They are in the upper caves for sure.  In waves of 4-5 IME.  They won't stick together, so run like hell and you'll eventually be able to take them on one at a time.  Also, in my current game I have a largish herd of Rock Lobsters and they've been helping me out.

Honestly, they would be a huge pain without the lobsters though.

I used to have some lobsters near my camp too, but then i lost them throughout the caves while killing spiders. I should probably go get them back.

The way the caves work, light plants are just for sustaining your lantern while you're down there. It's almost as if they intended it to be used exclusively for spelunking caves. I would've preferred the glow fruit to be an item that (similar to the Deerclops Eye) didn't rot and could provide decent fuel for the lantern as well (so, stockpile them while fighting underground, then store above ground for future use - periodic exploration in the caves is necessary to sustain this).

ORRRRR...if fed to a lureplant, it would become its lure providing light and nutrients to the glow fruit so that it didn't rot.

Yeah, I have no idea how to deal with 6 of them at once.  I haven't found anything in the lower depths that attacks them, and trying to stand and fight just gets you killed.  How do you kill them?  The lower cave has gone from 'interesting and more challenging' to 'I cant go down there or Ill die'.  Not really much fun.

I haven't been to the lower caves since the last update, but... now that friendly follower mobs follow you between levels (or at least they do between the surface and the first cave level), you should be able to bring some lobsters/pigs/rabbits down with you.

It's nice to have some pig houses right next to the cave entrance, whom can take care of bats and be befriended to go down there with you.

I'm assuming they'll attack the Ancient Guardian and Clock Works for you if they lose aggro on you. Game just became easier...

That doesn't make sense though; assuming that they have been co-existing in the ruins, by the time you arrived on the island wouldn't they have already fought it out?

Are you trying to bring logic in a videogame that lets you store walls in your pockets?

No, just basic aggressiveness between mobs. For example, Treeguards never attack Spiders. So the solution would be to make Depth Worms and the other mobs in ruins neutral towards each other.

That's actually quite an interesting proposition you bring though. For example, cooking something in the crockpot or creating a farm would take considerably longer in real life, but is represented by a few seconds in the game, since time travels faster there. Instead of having to carry large, cumbersome components of a wall to the desired area for construction, all you need are the conceptual materials for it and to build it there, taking a lot longer in terms of game-time in this universe. This way they're able to prioritize decisions the player makes regarding survival rather than micromanagement and turning your meat over the fire/adjusting charcoal count underneath crockpot depending on food being cooked/caring for your bird in the birdcage/etc. The end result is the same for both, but you get to see them quicker.

Spiders don't really attack pengulls, beefalo and other logical things. But yeah, if they were neutral that'd be great.

Decided to test something out for science with some debugspawning.. I was hiding with my bush hat, so neither the chess pieces nor worms would aggro on me. Then I made a nice group of chess pieces. They were standing on the spot, as expected. Then I started summoning worms, all in different locations and slowly getting more closer to the chess pieces. Now is were stuff became interesting. If the worm is too far away from the chess pieces, they will not attack them and dig around or "plant" themselves if there are plantables nearby. But if the worm get's closer to the chess pieces, or vice versa the worm will attack them. And worms indeed will attack the Ancient Guardian aswell ._.

Monkeys and Slurpers are fine though..

Now don't be complaining about mobs fighting each other.  It's part of Don't Starve, and one of its best features IMO.

Wilson says it best, "I will conquer it all with the power of my MIND!"

You can brute force your way through situations if you want, there are plenty of fancy weapons and armors to use.  Personally though, I feel as if I've done something wrong if I'm actually fighting a mob myself.

You shouldn't bother going in caves then.

So far so good in the caves actually.  Not too sure about the ruins, but I'd be surprised if Klei didn't put in some way for the mobs to kill each other off.  And if Spazmatic is correct, then it sounds as if they did.  (Might not be the best solution anyway as the worms would eat the horn.)
