johnsnake71
This would probably make more sense if this was in the suggestions and feedback forum but I'm not really suggesting anything. Anyways I was wondering how often do suggestion get into the game? So far none of the character suggestion have been in the game (although now you can make your own character with modifications, still), none of the good item suggestion that I have seen has make it into the game (I'm not basing it on my opinions I'm generalizing everyone else and how the thread feedback and rating was responded), and very little of the game mechanics changed from it. So the percentage I would guess that suggestions get added into the game is a measly 2-3%. Now I'm not saying they should make 50% of the game fan service, but at least 10%. And I know they didn't pass up everything, I know that they added monkey from one suggestion that was monkey men, some little game mechanic changes like living log screaming and that white spider dwells down faster, but that's not too much to be significant. And that's one of the problems that I have personally, but that shouldn't be taken into consideration it is just an opinion. Well that was my little rant, not trying to be offensive or agitating of sorts, if any of this applied to you then I apologize in advance. jbeetle
Suggestions from non-game developers = low chance of their idea being implemented unchanged. That doesn't mean those ideas haven't been helpful in sparking others. And really, it's just about making a good game. Also, I've seen very few good ideas. They're mostly imbalanced, unrealistic, or just bad all around. I just don't comment on them because it would end badly for me. zazori
The spelumonkeys and the depth dweller spiders were suggested. So klei reads the suggestions threads... Didn'tStarve
Klei knows what they're doing. Most ideas seem bad in one way or another, but the one or two who shine through the others (Spelumonkeys, Depth dwellers ect.) are added. Peculiar
I know that bat bat was suggested in a middle of a live stream and Kevin immediately said that he liked the idea and a few updates later it was in. It would be cool to see that happen more often but that would take the focus off what they plan to do originally. It'd be cool if modders started tackling all those suggestions. Doctor H. Derp
I know when they were in the process of finishing up Adventure Mode for release, when they added item durabilities to items like the Top Hat, a thread I had started helped cause enough of a stir to get the inclusion of the sewing kit implemented. Not trying to take any sort of credit, it's not like I was the only one unhappy with the decision of adding durabilities to various items at the time. Sporb
I only started frequenting the forums soon before the game was released. So, I have a question for those who have been on these forums much longer than I. Were the developers more open to fan suggestions earlier in the development of the game?I kinda thought they were, but I could be completely wrong of course. I definitely see that a lot of fan suggestions can be imbalanced, impractical, or just not fit the developer's vision for the game. But, some suggestions do at least bring up some issues with the game. It would be nice to see some of these addressed, even if the original suggestion sucked. For example, I've been suggesting ways that the hambat could be improved because I don't think it's very useful. I've seen others do the same thing. I'd like to see the devs respond by changing the weapon, even if they don't use any of the suggestions. I'm sure they would be able to find a good way to do it, even if we can't.Of course, I understand that the devs probably have bigger fish to fry, but the whole hambat thing is just an example. tehMug
Klei designed DS and they're certainly more open to suggestions than any other game dev I've run across, but it's their game, not ours and they have this whole thing thought out pretty well, so that a random character idea floated in the forums has little chance of being incorporated into the mix. Note: there is NO truth to the rumor that Dem Bones will be incorporated into the game. None. So just forget about it. No, really. Thanks for shopping. jbeetle
The idea has to be good, yes, but that's just one part. It also has to be within their capability, fit into the road map they ALREADY have planned, and many many more reasons that make having a low suggestion to implementation rate perfectly normal. Plus, this isn't our game. We just play it. edit: oops didn't see themugwump say what I just said. oh well. I know that bat bat was suggested in a middle of a live stream and Kevin immediately said that he liked the idea and a few updates later it was in. This is another reason I forgot to mention, things like "buff the darts" or "nerf the killer bees" and such never happens, and it is well thought out and explain because they really are rather in a way "bugs" and unintentional but at the same time you're suggesting to change the item slightely. Krampus seriously needs a buff and that was suggested back in April 2013, still didn't happen. Hopefully these last 2 updates do something...
