The coral asthetic made me think of Silent Hill f

Another thought I had: The fact it is capitalized "Fog" rather than just "fog", maybe its a scentient entity and will play the role of the main antaganist in DSE like "Them" are for DST?

But honestly too early to know :P

The Fog definetly seems to be connected to the Gnaw, or atleast The Gorge, since we can see the fog transforming (or cursing, as the store page describes it) things into a more "Nautical" form, like a bush turning into coral, a mouse into some weird fish, and what we can assume a lureplant into a floating jellyfish plant. It's like what the Gnaw does in The Gorge when you fail: Turns you into a nautical form of yourself; a merm :)

I have a lot of confidence that this is directly related to what we faced about 8 years ago, with The Gnaw. As many have noticed, the fog is related to the fish and marine theme, so I wouldn't be surprised that Elsewhere, in the sky or at sea, The Gnaw is letting the damn fog fall to earth. The only thing that raises a lot of questions is the involvement of white shadows in all this. I don't know if it's a "symbiosis" or if they're using the chaos created by the fog to manifest themselves. I don't know, but in any case, I hope we'll find out sooner or later

I really hope it's not one of those "race against time" mechanics. I'd hate something that aggressively forces progression and makes us prioritize an absolute objective above all other gameplay elements, like a fog that engulfs the entire map if left uncontained/unresolved. If it's something like a season I wouldn't mind though, preparing to survive a seasonal problem is fun and feels rewarding, and a season that interacts with the entire map and drastically changes it, like the fog seems to do, would be incredible.

When you say race against time, are you referring to something like biome spread in Terraria?

That kind of thing doesn't exist in any existing DS game, right? I'm fairly sure there's no precedent, and we don't need to worry.

Yeah something like that, something that comes close to this, albeit to a lesser degree, would be the Aporkalypse i guess, which isn't that big of a deal since it only appears at the very end of the game and you have enough time to find the solution just by playing normally, you don't need to rush there exactly. I just hope I don't have to actively worry about solving the problem as quickly as possible before it's too late, you know?

I personally play Terraria on Journey Mode just so I can stop biome corruption spread and play however I like without needing to break my gameplay flow just to make hellevators before my whole maps gets obliterated. And in terraria case, it's best to start doing this very early, since if the corruption spreads to much it gets exponentionally harder to contain it later

Maybe its a powerful new being fusing shadow and lunar scent, in one of the screenshots we can see shadow like beings but they are white so im pretty sure both powers complent each other.

Well that would explain the gestalt looking shadows, and I guess that would be interesting because those two forces are already dangerous when trying to kill each other, seeing them working together just to torture the survivors surely would return us to that time when Maxwell was just focusing in making Wilson's life hard.

You know after thinking about it for a bit the Dont starve franchise is 15 years old.. and it’s always had one core feature of if your outside at night at all without a torch = insta death…

But now hear me out, Minecraft, Lego Fortnite, The Survivalists, “insert other sandbox survival games here” do not instantly kill the player when they are without light source at night, Instead… these games spawn hostile mobs at night that do not typically spawn during the day. “The Fog” could replace instantly dying at night, and instead when it rolls in hostile mobs spawn.

Why would a semi-divine being unite against... People...

/THIS/ time I would really be excited to have a new additional influence on the world, while I was quite annoyed by the moon addition as shadow counterpart when I returned to DST 10 years after being annoyed by Charlie taking the throne and being completely confused by the moon stuff...In hindsight it really made sense to have 1 for DS, 2 for DST and now I am definitely excited for a third one. In DST the moon mechanics came as a negative surprise for me, since I did not consider DST an actual sequel when I returned to it, but just "DS ROG multiplayer"
