i was about to complain about that...

also this seems to be set in the gorge, ( theres goats in the trailer)

so maybe we get some merm lore...

True, some of the vegetation in the trailer is turning into coral, so hopefully they'll take Billy and Mumsy into account; it would be really nice to see them again, as well as reinventing the kitchen system from Gorge to DST Base.

Honestly, I don't understand the general excitement; I understand it will be a separate game. Why split the online for DST? It would have been more logical to release an update for DST then, but this way, the online will end up being split into two games and become even smaller. And the only major new feature is the elevation changes, which doesn't seem particularly wow-worthy. It's weird.

they mustve changed the engine of the game to achieve some of this stuff, the thing with dst is that everytime they wanted to make something out of the ordinary (like the ancient echoes puzzle) its a very limited and compartimentalized mechanic that doesnt make any sense with the rest of the game

also they probably will make it so you dont need an entire server just to play alone

That’s not the only change. DSE is procedurally generated map. So more like Minecraft, its infinite

I'll probably die on this hill: I feel like it will be a 4-player coop/campaign game like Cult of the Lamb or Wizard With A Gun, being both an action-adventure roguelite and base-building management game, but with the sandbox element contained in one spot (your base in WWAG or cult building in COTL). Outside of this sandbox it will probably be combat with procedurally generated "dungeons" to fight enemies and to gather resources.

I'm excited tho, looks very 〜 modern 〜 and fun!

Is it just me or does Wendy look more mature here? Like she's aged into a teenager. Wonder if Elsewhere could be set in the future

Yea she looks older. In DST she was around 10-12 years old so here I think she might be around 13–15.

Also I don’t want to complain too much because I like her new design but I wonder if her missing dark circles under her eyes (okay maybe she still has some dark circles but they’re not as intense as they used to be) which were a sign of her depression mean that she’s healed and feels better now? or if it’s just mischaracterization on Klei’s part? As much as I love Wendy I’d prefer the second option so they could fix it in the future because I think her depression is a core part of her character and it would be a shame if it disappeared

she is 9. also the circles are still there and indicate she isnt sleeping... the same as all the other characters. you can see them in the image you quoted.

Oh boy, I can't wait for Don't Starve Away Team!

....Wait

The crazy thing is this joke kind of isn't completely wrong because the Elsewhere survivors are, well, away from the normal confines of the constant seemingly.

They are literally an away team lol

Wendy definitely looks older now for sure, same with Willow and Wilson. WX I can't really tell because robot, but some time has to have passed since DST and Elsewhere.

I wonder what this means for the characters? If they can still age in the constant then wouldn't they die of old age for good at some point? Or do they age at a different rate since time in the Constant moves faster (and has physical effects like eating sooner due to accelerated hunger, IRL you don't need to pound a stew entirely made of meat every 8 minutes)?

Maybe they survived long enough in DST to physically age before ending up in Elsewhere and now they're stuck at that age for some reason??

Lots of questions about how they look older now tbh, I hope we get some answers at some point

Maxwell and Wanda are already special cases for this.

True, but neither of them die forever, the constant still keeps them alive somehow.

Both are weird cases because their age appears to be accelerated by magic, with Maxwell dying to having his immortality stripped and Wanda simply having time catch up to her.

I'm wondering if it's possible for the characters to just get old and die without any magical anti-aging interference, and would they just be gone? Or can they age but just revert back to the age they were taken to the constant during once they die and revive? Wanda does always start at a specific age after all...

I fear so. I don't mind future gameplay, but it does feel weird to have non-native characters age in a place where time is supposed to be different and they have already died a thousand deaths (at least Wilson seems to) And if they have aged, what does this mean for Wickerbottom? (unless Wanda gave some help with her time-control abilities / curse I would fear it would be difficult to have a playable Wickerbottom in YEARS later set future with aged characters.)

They seem to be affected by a curse (the shadow magic) so unless there is some help with "cursing" Wickerbottom with shadow magic I really REALLY worry about a future timeline with her. (sorry I can't stop focusing on a tiny amount of realism. I would ALTHOUGH be very sad if Wickerbottom was left to die from old age, but on the other hand I would appreciate some Wickerbottom and Wanda connections, so from this POV under the circumstances that they find a way to keep Wickerbottom healthy enough for survival I would actually suddenly find that an interesting. Without Wickerbottom or without an explanation though it would feel rather annoying to have an aging Wendy and Webber. But then if Wurt is a playable character she likely /will/ have aged considering she is a native character, I suppose. [but then how do you explain her probably always staying a child merme otherwise?)

Maxwell was on the throne for hundreds of years, or something like that. After crumbling to dust he just revives like nothing even happened.

Maybe they revert to the age they feel like? Presumably they won't return to DST age after dying in DSE.

If Wicker dies of old age and is just like gone It would be very sad because she's basically the motherly/grandmotherly figure to several survivors currently.

Having them revive at the age they "feel" like I guess could make sense, but I don't think that's the case honestly. If anything it's probably just Wanda is keeping everyone at their preferred age or something, I dunno though. I hope Elsewhere gives us some answers tbh I'd love to know more

it's mostly that dst is a old game and is built off a similar engine to ds which is even older so they probably were hitting the limits of what they could do with the game so getting a new entry to expand on the gameplay was necessary. Even just looking at the trailer showcases plenty of things that just wouldn't be possible in dst.
