Mini-theory: The in WX-78 must stand for Work/Working. e.i. Work eXpander-78 // Working Tranformer-78 (I think that the X is a shortened symbol). This is what human WX build the robot in the first place, to work with higher efficency; in the comic we see how they are working with the helmet on trough WX on the portal, I think their idea was that they are clearly very smart but to work better a body of metal would do better. The 78 must mean the 78-th iteration of the model, we clearly see it was not the first version

The story about WX in this ARG reminds me a lot of the movie 9. With how similar the memory puzzle and helmet is to the device the scientist uses in the movie. I wouldn't be surprised if Klei took inspiration!

I felt a bit worried about "human wx" (or what ever name the community has given Wagstaff's college) since Wagstaff got Bio-bliterated/stolen/warped into the constant.

Then I remembered that 2 Wagstaff's now exist as a result of his experiments, so it is entirely possible that original Wagstaff is still working on the sap collection to keep "H.W.X." alive while Wagstaff 2/clone-staff was working the dangerous experiments on the war-bot and got... removed from the picture.

The idea that Wagstaff wouldn't have a contingency plan to help keep his friend alive, especially with the cheery attitude that he maintained whilst taking care of them...

Wagstaff is with out a doubt a character that lives up to their name of "cryptic founder" but perhaps there is more going on here then we realize.

Is it possible that Wagstaff thinks the experiment went wrong and he doesn't consider Wx and H-Wx to be the same person/being, taking care of his friend and ally but not recognizing the experiment did work?

Would Wagstaff prioritize doing the more dangerous experiments himself or did he send his clone to do the dangerous stuff and report back?

I just realized something... I think I may have assumed that there where two Wagstaffs when in reality it was more than likely H-Wx greeting wagstaff on the other side...

image.png.a6f94faa3f76fa1f7923e52f67d09921.png

So... Wagstaff and "Human Wx", may possibly be extremely dead...

Potentially, I don't know, this stuff gets me so scrambled I don't know what to think. I really hope some stuff is explained soon.

as far as i know nothing has been established which is a shame, woodrow really does feel correct since that was the name tied to the oldest of wx's files

It might be Wagstaff eXperiment, with other numbers referring to completely unrelated prototype projects.

The radio is PR-76. (Production Run?)

I'd like to share few thoughts here. First of all... Portals seems to be not so unique thing or rather, anything which utilies few rules seem to work. We can see it from easter egg with Camertons using right code portal show that thing from Don't Starve elsewhere. My previous guess was a bit too much about it being world made by Wagstaff, Now I guess it is world constructed using Wagstaff knowledge by moon since we saw nearly no presence of shadows and quite a lot of things pointing on moon powers.

Also there is quite interesting moment that quite possibly Wagstaff is from other reality or from other time as the man who made another portal made advanced copy of same portal. Portal didn't let apple through but pulled Wagstaff and Wagstaff knew what he did at that time, so there is a good chance that it is either planned testing for teleportation using portal doors or it was unexpected result of two men building same portal. And also it happens for sure not during Winona's teleportation to constant since it is whole different room, no bricks seen there also. The hand Wagstaff hold quite possible his companion who we see in other lore parts. Voxola is name of factory, Men names start with Fo and Tu, quite possible one of them is Wagstaff and other is Co-Owner. Wagstaff end up either surviving Constant: Hamlet or end up in limbo until Co-Owner rebuilt portal in future or in other reality at same place. Why I struggle about this being one timeline or two? Both look quite similar... One is younger, other older. One built something which look like old portal 2.0 while other built its much advance version (old portal is that one which we saw long ago as first portal made by Wilson and Maxwell). And what is more important, they both know about Constant as at start of building robot comic they argue what they do stable and durable Portal (Wagstaff) or Avatar to explore (Co-Owner). Since Wafstaff didn't know how to make one, Co-Owner said that they first do the Robot body. Maybe first clockworks are his distance observers since he had stable portal, they are strangely adapted to explore Constant.

juice from pines and few other materials were used to create liquid to sate Co-Owner's body as he control WX, quite good probability is that WX supposed to be for Wagstaff, since his body wasn't that durable and was quite old. But Piloting WX made Co-Owner addicted to unaging, powerful body and kept building more and more advanced copies. Wagstaff was unaware that his companion building more of robots since portal completion and what more important he found that these copies all shared one mind (quite possible from overworking and bad vision). Heart module might was something to fully connect body and robot, something like trapping it in one and be just avatar while without it they only share link which can be easily switched to control other body. problem here is that after long time Human part became secondary it became avatar while WX itself became main body, so whenever heart module works or there is link towards real world, then WX can slightly control his original body. WX wanted to return back to Wagstaff as it seems constant made that his real soul got trapped in WX body but once he saw himself there, lying on the table with connected device and low amount of juice left, he just let it go since Wagstaff also got stollen from real world. WX real body quite possibly died. Early successful prototype WX got into Constant with heart module which Wagstaff forgot to connect so there were nearly no memories within that body, Heart module supposed to be holder of them. So body remembered moves but didn't have memories, then with connection Link happened and WX shared memories with both bodies maybe it wasn't suppose to happen or something like that so WX destroyed heart module. After that we can see that he start to modificate his body and then create new bodies as before.

Wagstaff on other hand found out shadow magic, he contained all presence of it and using proector and film where maxwell and charlie disapeared to connect to constant, maybe due to that one specific radio... that one with two antenas to sides, same one with wilson, with enough speculation Wagstaff is Wilson but after really long passed time which might be correct for few reasons, first, both men of science yet both lack in same field as I can get it. Wilson's recent invention is radio, so he might got back from constant but want to return and this is why Wagstaff build portal in first place.

few more things I do think interesting. So few hints for puzzles are located in the day time office(behind circle window) after you do night with collecting materials for potion to sate WX main body, book with ingridients and potion requirements have R.W. Last WX is quite advanced and built nearly human like way but without any place for heart. Portal made by Wagstaff during day looks like marble one + old one with symbol of sun on it, quite possible reason why it fail since shadows and moon control Constant and for both sun is opposite element.

What was the point of keeping him alive, and why with sap of all things? And where did Wagstaff even end up where he meets WX after going through his portal? Was it still his own reality? Is WX an alternate world Wagstaff or just some random scientist? Why were the memories destroyed? Was it intentional? Does it have any meaning to WX or is he completely apathetic? Is he even aware that something happened? Did that affect his human self at all? Does/did his robot self need him plugged in for any reason?

The sap has antimicrobial properties, used to balance the other ingredients in the drug. Sap also has sugar. (IIRC, the portal also uses sap? That's somewhat weirder.)

He was probably being kept alive because robots don't have human rights, plus the empathy module issue. Once the body dies, he's legally deceased.

Probably just the same reality. We don't have the survivors going to alternate Earths. They're just stuck with every portal leading to more Constant.

It seems he was just an employee. There's not that much more evidence for WXstaff than for Wilsonstaff.

The puzzle involved sequencing them in correct order. I think we can infer that WX's human body is rejecting the robot memories. Emotion is an important factor in memory retention, and robot WX ain't got no empathy.

The device probably shares consciousness? If he takes off the helmet, it returns fully to his organic brain. If he dies while hooked up, WX's consciousness becomes untethered from his original body and can freely jump between chasis. In other words, robot WX was only being held back by the weakness of flesh, and resents Wagstaff trying to keep him contained.

An afterthought: If Wagstaff never returns after WX's death, the skeleton in Wilson's house is almost certainly unrelated.

The glass things appear to be fuses. Following the comic it could be interpreted as: Woodrow, having seen (or not seen) WX-78 after the curtain burns away, gets a surge of memories that blows out all of the fuses while WX-78 goes to meet up with the rest of the gang.

The radio on the side could be recording or sending a feed of what WX-78 is seeing to an unknown character (less likely as it should have been foreshadowed) or is on the meta narrative side to say "[media] is derived from memories created from experiences".

i really think HumanWX / Woodrow / Sapstaff always has been the Shadow Watcher, and i was so so hoping we'd get that confirmed before Exspectamus wrapped up

As cool as that would be, I don't know if that is possible. The Shadow Watcher has been around before Maxwell got taken, which would be before Wagstaff discovered the Constant

So... Next update's going to have something to do with the shadow watchers right? - [Don't Starve Together] General Discussion - Klei Entertainment Forums
