good gen or bad gen?

What is the interaction between the shadows from nightmare lights and the spawned gestalts from the lunar grotto?

The gen is uniquely good, as if there is only a thin line between the shadows and the lights. From a practical standpoint, restocking ruins' tools will be fast, but the archive is whatever unless you're into renewable thulecites for maybe catching thousands of bugs. The lichens found nearby are also convenient, providing a sustainable value of 1 vegetable for cooking - perfect for players who hate agriculture. However, the small lunar grotto might be disheartening for those who love vitreoases for extra bit of moon shards. Also, where does the nearest sinkhole lead to, and is there enough natural sunlight near that sinkhole?

BAD! BAD! BAD!

Bad because Ruins SHOULD not spawn near the entrance AND near lunar grotto. It breaks everything about their game designs and principles. Just imagine if someone is blind and their first trip in the Caves is this. Absolutely horrible it would be their experience. I know on my skin. Also it seems by the screenshoot that it eat lunar grotto, therefore reducing its resources which is also very very bad.

But.... it's also good as hell. It's those weird generations that you want in some randomizer run or special challenge and have fun exploring it.

Conclusion: this should not be in vanilla, but on a special configuration in the menu.

I'm leaning good cave gen, but there are some circumstances that I would be unhappy with a caves like this. Wouldn't want to see it in a world I plan on spending a lot of days in. It would be neat to see in a short-term world.

Question: did you adjust any of the world size settings or is this with default settings?

i was going to stay quiet because i dont want my feelings about this world gen  to colour anyone else's but for clarity, as a rule, i leave almost no setting at default. all the resources and most of the enemies are at or near max. i get a much more unique kind of world gen that way(especially when my world sizes are set small), for sure though this is very much the closest i have ever seen a stair to the chest psuedoscience station or the lunar grotto as well as possibly the smallest grotto i have ever seen

By chance, does that include adjusting land branch/land loop? Those settings are pretty noteworthy for really messing with cave gen specifically, and result in strange occurrences like deep ruins biomes being next to normal cave ones.

No problem! To be fair, I feel like very few people actively change the cave settings, and fewer than that mess with the generation ones. The only other person I knew who does (and is why I even know about this in the first place...) is @-Variant, who gets similar wacky results!

Oooooh, so that's why there is no Blue Mushtree forest and why the Lichen aren't in the opposite direction to the Lunar Mushtree?

That certainly explains a lot. Pretty cool info! Thanks for sharing!

If only looked at, it is really cool. But when actually playing it, it might not be as good as imagined.

I don't mind facing threats from multiple directions, but at least give me enough space to move. Otherwise, I would just quietly wait in the Lunar Grotto until the time is up.

And I like to be well-prepared and go on an adventure with Moggles, but this adventure just ended after taking the first step.

Oof bad gen disguised as a good gen, look how tiny that lunar mush biome is!

Less mushgnomes , less lunar glass deposits and less lightbugs (if you enjoy using them as a light source, they are pretty good!)

You can use lunar experiment to mutate all those light flowers below(there is A LOT). Hate it when a cave near base barely has any.

If you like chopping mushtrees then yea it isn't great, but you could farm lunar mushrooms with Wormwood.

There are alternative ways to get living logs. Idols, Aboretum experiments etc.

However, an overly convenient world gen makes it boring for me at least. A challenge is always nice. Difficult to navigate routes etc. Maybe I'm a masochist.
