When the Wes character refresh came out on April Fools Day, it came with pantomimed skins for several tools. Since then, I've wondered about the possibilities of this skinline being expanded to include backpacks, clothes, and armor. Character skins and outfits are really cool, but by day 10 at the latest, you will never really have an instance where you won't have something in your headslot and bodyslot. This means you won't get to really see the character skins in their entirety for most of the game.

Obviously, armor is iffy because it could lead to being killed due to it not being immediately clear whether you are protected or not. Also if anyone actually plays PVP, these would probably need to be disabled. For backpacks though (piggyback and krampus sack included), they often look a bit out of place and really take away from the body cosmetic. It would be nice to have the option.

Pantomimed backpack, piggyback, and Krampus sack skins would be great, yeah. As for pantomimed armor, maybe the outline it has could stay when it's worn? It's largely transparent and mostly not visible, but still visible enough due to the outline to know if you have it on or if an enemy player does.

Unpopular opinion but I’m not a fan of “completely invisible skins” and in brutal honesty, I actually wish the skin was still visible (aka a dot outline around the skin) You’d be able to tell that players are wearing a Backpack or hat by the dotted outline.

I remember this being brought up in the past and i personally think it shouldn't be a thing for anything you wear. It's fine on tools and weapons and anything you hold in your hand because your hand will show that it's there like actual pantomiming but clothes and armor are just going to be invisible with no sign of it being there. And if it had an outline i think it would look a tad bit strange.

That's fair. I definitely am pushing for backpacks and krampus sacks more than anything else, mostly because I really like how the characters look without them. Armour and clothing I have no strong feelings for. I also understand the criticism for invisible backpacks

i would absolutely love invisible backpack or armors, however, it might give pvp player a advantage ( yes dst pvp still exsist)

Is that a problem? I don't do PVP but I can't imagine the characters or equipment are balanced for fair fights in any way. Why would equipment that offers an advantage be an issue?

my concern would be hats. people forgetting to take off hats is already a moderate problem for quite a few people and as someone who sometimes uses a mod that has the accidental bug of hats turning invisible when resurrecting i can say i have lost maaany a hat that way over the years

There’s several reasons, imagine for example a Wickerbottom player, this is just one of the most extreme examples I can think of so yeah let’s go with her, she has THIS MANY Books.

with a “Backpack” a Wickerbottom can lug them all around & in PvP your obviously going to attack her when she appears not to have a backpack full of every book.

Armors/Headgear is another issue entirely.. lol I’m not even going to begin to go into details on that, I’ll just say that PvP has never been a focal point of DSTs development, but I still disagree with invisible hats, armors & backpacks (it’s confusing enough as is to see someone swing an invisible axe!) on xbox- I can’t tell if that’s a skin or if my consoles just lagging down that badly. 😂

So you would have to assume any Wicker you see has plenty of books. It would be a change but you haven't articulated how it would be a problem. I don't think "other characters should be visibly vulnerable so I can gank them" is necessarily a goal of PVP design, but perhaps Wicker is unique in that regard.
