There are only 3 choices in modern 2025 DST:

1. Wanda (the good old reliable)

2. Wortox (the jack of all trades newcomer)

3. Winona (the power tool)

My core criterias for what make a good megabasing character are these 3 things:

1. Teleportation

2. Convenience

3. Power

After the Winona and Wortox skilltrees (which bring some competitive 1.Teleportation options), I can safely recommend any of the 3 chars for all you zen garden enjoyers.

We still need to wait and see if Max, Wicker and Warly skilltrees can be viable additions for the megabasers pedestal, but these 3 will stand the test of time.

Imho, its 1Walter 2Max 3Winona. Wortox brings no utility, teleportation skill feels tedious to manage all the soul collecting and etc. Wanda mmm i dunno, no planar skills no cc. Wanda was op in older DST, absolutely broken long range survavibility and movement, now she is just worse at everything. Walter has very convenient movement, assuming farming purple gems got very easy so teleportation isnt a problem. Maxwell has too many farms that only he can efficiently manage, so he is required but only periodically, main character is no question for me is Walter. His damage is insane, basically he is the best at dmg/cost especially with the availability of horror fuel. And woby that lets you carry 9 more bundles is very handy, and implies that you will need to travel to your destinations less times. Assuming you also use maxwells shadow container and have it build all over the world… + the new warbot crown drop absolutely negates maxs and walters downsides, but it is more helpful to walter as he excels at combat way more than max and in any location. the only thing is that farming some resources may be little more inconvenient.

what¿? waltah and maxy good at megabasing? nah or maybe? jokes aside its funny how you 2 put Nona on your list even if it is in third place. Lets be honest she is the best mega base builder in all the game right now. And to explain why, i have to say that i consider 3 main things when it comes to mega basing character. 1.- Strong farms/resources gathering. 2.- Easy mobility or speed. 3.- Utility/survavility items. These 3 things helps a lot when it comes to make a base as big as a biome.

Now lets talk first about waltah, he has good movility, he has some interesting items to survive but he isnt really good at resource gathering so no he is not really the best at megabasing and even worst his big downsides can easily make you killed unless you tame a beefalo(which is time and resources waste).

Next is maxy, he is maybe the best at resources gathering during early and mid game, he has some spells that can make some usefull stuff for survavility and utility(his traps are really strong), but he has poor mobility, maybe after his skill tree he is gonna become a god but till then he is not that good for megabasing, and you have to remember is a mid to late game thing.(im talking about megabasing)

Finally my Nona, she  can make the strongest farms in the game, and some of them totally automatic and unlike maxwell winona doesnt need to be there for the farms to work. She can make big networks of teleports not only in the surface but inside caves too, and yeah i agree these networks are not cheap but do remember again that megabasing is a late game stuff you cant make a megabase on the first autum can you? And finally she has a lot of utility and survability tools that make your life a lot easier, the catapults are great defense and during late game you can use them on a lot of farms, winbot is the best way to make your base clean and the spotlights are really good way to get infinite light and heat. And unlike maxy and waltah she doesnt really have any big downside, oh and a good plus to megabasing, she can fastcraft, so everything that takes too much crafting winona can make it in half the time  :>

But i dont think any character is bad at megabasing, all of them can make a big base if they take their time, its just winona feels really strong in late game and she allowed me to trivialize a lot of things in the game and of course this all its just an opinion bro. :D oh and i forgot with the new electric fences her farms become even better lmao.

It's not if you know how to manage it

How do you teleport around?

Very little need to with a beefalo + good wormholes. If I do have a good reason though, I use a bootleg getaway.

All 4 of my wormholes in my vanilla megabase are bad, and that may have shaped my needs.

But the rest is good and dear to me.

hmm fair point, but I actually enjoy going from place to place in my overdeveloped worlds and admire the scenes, teleporting kills that a bit even tho it's obviously more convenient and time efficient, I'm rarely in a rush to do anything at that point.

as for megabase characters, I think Wolfgang is still a fair shout, for statue decorating and 1 hit smashing walls (which I kinda do a lot), plus ofc 2x damage is handy with most bosses. Wigfrid is also amazing for smashing down walls, when I put wood walls all over the highways I usually switch to wigfrid just to smash them down fast with elding spear, it's like 3-4 times quicker than doing it with any other character.

Хм, справедливо, но мне действительно нравится перемещаться из одного места в другое в моих детально проработанных мирах и любоваться пейзажами. Телепортация немного портит впечатление, хотя это, безусловно, удобнее и экономит время. Но я редко тороплюсь.

What about Telelocator Focus?

Impractical cost.

Even if you have a giga varg farm or you're playing Hamlet together (for End's well nmf conversion), it still feels bad to freely use (compared to actual free teleports like Wanda, Winona, Wortox). I only use them sparsely in those two cases.

And you want telelocator's to be far jumps in your network to conserve on costs.

I teleport around the world, a LOT. I would have to use the order of thousands of purple gems as an equivalent.

There are always a lot of purple gems in the world. And there aren't many other uses.
Obviously, you don't like using teleporters, because they literally cost nothing and are made not as balanced things, but as characters who move purely by teleportation.

I agree that purple gems for teleportation are one of the cruelest things. And it would be good if they weren't spent, provided that the purple gem becomes a rarer resource, as well as gems.

Y’all forget Maxwell can inherit all of Wicker’s books, which allow him to manipulate and super charge most resources farming with all of Maxwell’s gathering/fighting skills. For the super late game that’s still pretty good even without teleports.

I’d say Winona, Wurt, Maxwell, in no particular order.

If these characters play together self teleporting is only required for one character, as that one can take the others anywhere through lazy deserters.
If its a megabase effort you probably already have lazys at every biome. And if you don’t yet, lazy deserters are very cheap to carry precrafted, use to summon your friends, then hammer and pre-craft again, at the cost of just 3 rocks each time

Even in Wanda's golden age, players with mega-base profiles started the world with Wolfgang, then moved on to Warly, Wormwood, and Wx. After a long time and with an established base, they'd use Wanda. Wanda has always been an extremely slow-progressing character, which is very bad for mega-base projects.

This wouldn't fix anything. It's very clear from these sorts of discussions on the forums that the sides aren't simply "I like to use the celestial portal!" and "I don't like to use the celestial portal!", but instead the sides are "I like the celestial portal existing as an option" and "I hate when I see other people use the celestial portal, because it makes me mad they're having fun wrong."

Adding a self-imposed toggle won't fix anything for that latter side, because the issue doesn't have anything to do with if they personally find the feature fun or not, but instead that it makes them angry whenever other people have fun with something that they don't like. There's no solution to this short of entirely ripping out the thing some people find fun so that those who don't like it don't have to see people playing the game wrong. I hope Klei will stick to their guns and leave the celestial portal in its current state.

The game definitely needs a portal, but you have to sacrifice something for teleportation. At a minimum, all learned skills should be reset to zero, just like when starting a new world.
Also, other characters should be limited in the power of the things they use or not be able to use them at all.
+ The portal must have a real recharge when changing characters.
Players should change the character because they want to change it, not because they want to play as a multi-character who can do anything.

Actually, I don't think the game needs him. Your choice at the beginning should define your game, not be a fiction.

You have, quite literally, hit the “I hate when I see other people use the celestial portal, because it makes me mad they're having fun wrong” on the head so hard that it’s not even funny.

Other players can play the game differently from you mate. It doesn’t mean their enjoyment should be invalidated because you personally hate it.

What about those makes a character bad? You think convenience makes a character bad???

Definitely.  Convenience. And what exactly is convenience in terms of DST? What features make these 3 characters convenience ?
