Hi guys , i've been follow steamdb so i can check if there is new updates or dlc commings between commits and i wonder if anyone have any news for any upcoming DLC or content for the game, new mechanics maybe instead of start in the center of the map you can start in a base already created or scenarios.

PPP came out just recently. It takes at least 6 months to cook new DLC, so we have to wait a bit.

P.S. You should also look for "Away team". Its ONI-2...

Away Team i dont think is ONI 2 , its more like a side project with new mechanics and engine.

I bet that ONI 2 will be more like Mind Over Magic 2.5D style or a 3D game or maybe they won't make a second game.

We have to wait til november to see something , maybe between we can see something ? some boost pack or a addon ?

Away team is more of a spin-of rather than a sequel IMO. Same universe, similar but very different at its core.

I don't think that there will ever be an "ONI 2",... or that there is a need for an "ONI 2" in the first place. Such a thing only makes sense if there is a need to improve a core system in a game-breaking way while keeping the spirit of the game the same. The game can sure still be improved but I don't see a need for such a profound engine tweak at the time. The game currently yields itself pretty well to the current "pack" formula. If there was ever a need for some sort of "ONI 2" at some point in time, well,... IMO, it's already there and it's Spaced Out.

Multithreading and better graphics could be the reason for ONI 2 , i don't know if they can do this with the actual game.

Next "DLC" will be a QoL patch most likely.

That has atleast been the patern for the last year or so. QoL, Frosty DLC, QoL, BIONIC DLC, QoL, PPP DLC, Present.

Agreed. And I am perfectly fine with that. My guess is that they can keep this game alive for a long, long time that way.

If the game lasts long enough, it will for sure outlive its performance issues at some point. Perhaps that was the plan all along! Don't reengineer the game's core, just wait until technology progressed to the point where even a cheap smartphone can run the game smoothly. x)

Reminds me of "Creatures 3", one of my childhood's favorite game. It uses to chug my 1998's PC with all the critters I had, automation I set, and community made content I (very slowly) downloaded (through dial-up, paid by the hour, internet). The game still runs and my current rig could run thousands of these world without breaking a sweat. The game has been there for a quarter of a century now, yet, it still has a very very small but active community. (See creatures caves.)

about away team i personaly hope that its a smplified version of oni where you control duplicant (so that it can run multi and be a DST for oni) oni is to lagi to be multi but away team it looks like it is made for this.

Since you control one dupe directly in Away Team, this seems very likely. On the other hand, before I have played it, I am unsure how much ONI it is. Don't Starve does not really work for me, so I hope it is not too much like it. I am definitely giving it a chance and the expansion of the "Oni Universe" is welcome.

Even though I only recently started playing this game(I purchased it years ago lol), after following the history I am nothing but impressed at the commitment and maturity the devs have shown(the community iz gr8 too). I've seen a lot of guides and videos on how to do things, yet when I play now I see so many new features that add so many options for how you can play. Its a pretty incredible feat and I am happy to support any new content. I've played a lot of games but this one is truly something special.

Many motherboards now come with a feature that allows you to disable logical processors in favor of only using physical cores(for AMD). I was experiencing a bit of lag in my game(which has a few hundred critters running around which I have yet to address), enabling this setting completely eliminated the lag spikes from zooming around my colony with Alt+S. Be aware this might affect your ability to have 200 browser tabs open.

But does it really have to be a "oni2"?

Better graphics sure but that wouldn't sell tbh.

Multithreading I agree but on the other hand, most people struggle to reach 200-300 cycles so multithreading is more of a lategame "pro-player" feature.
It would be an amazing news like with Dyson Sphere Program, but core limitation is a problem few players have.

To make a ONI 2 sellable you'd need real new content and not just "behind the door" changes.

Basically

- Entirely new mechanic (multiple elements per tiles or much smaller, hexagonal?, tiles, thermal radiation)
- New tech tree
- New biomes asteroid, critters, building etc

In short, a new game.

With the small DLC route they've taken, I doubt we'll see ONI2 before long. (Just look at DST...)

However, I still hope a multithreading and some core rework are planned.

Diagonals tiles , better fluids and gases system like Away Team, maybe some late game mechanics like factorio, but in a very late game.

BTW, imagine they release ONI2 and become a Cities Skylines 2 ... be careful.

I remember the game From Dust, was an amazing game that you have to change the environment and move people from place to place, they only made one game and nothing more.

Yes I agree, diagonal and much smaller tiles like Away Team would call for a new game. (But not multithreading / graphics alone, that's my point)

Regarding cities skyline, then I don't believe they would call it ONI2. Like Away Team isn't "ONI2".

Yeah from Dust was such a great game!

My guesses here,

New update maybe just a QoL update probably for PPP, FPP had its own QoL/content update with Ceres Mantle Moonlet Style and Regal Bammoths. So there is a possibility that PPP will have some additions and/or adjustments and of course updates for basegame/SO.

What I hoping for is a critter morph(Rhex Hot Variant maybe LOL) and critter updates for PPP critters(the Jawbo specifically). Any other Qol stuff is always welcomed.

Did you mean From Dust? Yeah. It was amazing and pretty nice as a one of, self contained thing. No more, no less.

Yes , sorry , bad typo

Be aware that maybe Away Team ..... could be their new engine for ONI 2 .... like when Rockstar uses RDR to test new GTA mechanics or the time that they bought Max Payne franchise and they used it as a puppet for GTA V mechanics.
Same applies on IO Interactive and the next James Bond game , uses the Hitman Engine but with new features without damaging their main franchise

Yes , they already have the mutation system cooked so they just have to i don't know, change cosmetics and art, i don't know if many of you are programmers but from my point of view they have already done many mechanics and functions and Inheritances that they only hard work is implement it, brain work also art.
Example , the Mimika that "fertilize ", two mechanics, the Shine Bug and the fertilized action, also uses the touch action from the Divergent

The hard work is creating a new system like the Asteroid Collision, that is a new mechanic from scratch, also if they did it right, could lead to another game mechanics with another problems that uses the time against us, like scenarios for example.

I'm pretty sure the whole Demolior thing is also "just" the old mapgen point of interest system with a bit of custom scripting, dedicated art assets, and a kobolb balanced on top of each-other in a trench coat.

I hope the next variant will be of actual use.

The regal bammoth was quite underwhelming. I had no issue with the ability to make gold. The issue what more that when playin SO, the deep fryer is a third tier research and since ceres doesn't have easy radbolt generation like on PPP with the Beeta, by the time you can deep frie the gold amalgam isn't as valuable as you most likely have access to steel.

I found regal bammoth to be circumstantially quite usefull. Gold amalgam is inferior to steel in most regards indeed, but as opposed to steel, it can be refined into gold, and it so happens that gold has some exclusive uses. Most notably, you can't run a bleach stone hopper, oxylite refinery or produce super-coolant without it. If you don't have any gold volcano, regal bammoth can be quite handy.
