I started playing this game in 2017 and quite fell in love with it, though I have taken several breaks throughout the years. Sometimes a few months, sometimes a few years. (Not just with this game, but several others. Though DST is one of the games that I tend to come back to.)

I have watched a lot of DST content on YouTube, and I've seen a lot of dedicated DST YouTubers quitting the game. (I know there are a lot of new ones as well, but seeing familiar faces stop playing the game still makes me sad, lol.)

So, here comes the question: Do you take a break from this game from time to time? Do you mainly play DST (maybe with some other games)? Or do you usually take a long break (like 6+ months or so before coming back)? How do you not get burnout?

I usually get burnout from a game after 1-4 months. After that, I'll move on to another. I come back to some games after some time, and when I do it's quite a fun experience since the game will usually receive a lot of updates in the meantime.

I get tired sometimes too, now for example I'm checking the forums more than playing the game. I'm focused on Lies of P for the moment. But DST is a good game, I will always come back to it. Hell, I want to do so now.

I actually mostly just play other games so that's kind of my break from DST. There's usually a period of a month or 2 where I play the game a lot. I think I'm actually in one of those periods right now. It's a nice way for me to play the game because I don't get burned out, and I usually only start playing a lot when I just feel like it or want to. I still keep up with updates and news as well, even when I'm playing other games.

Yeaaaah i found it especially sad when orange man quit. He made some of the funniest and most unique dst content.

I have almost 3k hrs in dst but atm i havent played in aaages. Last time mightve been octobre 2024.

i still keep an eye on the forums to see if something new can lure me back but that hasnt happened yet. Losing pearl’s island and the prospect of yet another extreme late game raid boss has even done the opposite.

Ive played a ton of wickerbottom in past so maybe her skilltree update will do the trick, hopefully it’ll be an interesting one.

What used to be my favorite game franchise with a wacky cast of loveable characters, has been turned into something extremely frustrating and mostly unenjoyable to me. I did not buy solo DS or it’s two DLCs to fight Raid Bosses, and since that seems to be the only kind of content updates Klei wants to push out for DST, I would’ve quit playing DST a long long time ago if it weren’t for #1- Cool Character & Item Skins, #2- DST exclusive DLC characters I can’t play as in solo DS, and #3- When Klei finally does decide to throw a bone my way with the types of content I enjoy which isn’t often, and feels like a mouse following a trail of bread crumbs. Just new places to go to and explore and encounter new types of mobs that don’t require 10 billion hits to kill or expert kiting skills would be damn GREAT!

But perhaps the worst feeling is that when Klei does add this type of content it’s crammed in and bite-sized.

Perfect examples: Moon Quay, Electric ScrapYard (which they couldn’t help shoving a boss into as well)

The Moon Quay Pirates having multiple sets of islands out at sea would had been nice.. Scrapyard being its own Biome the size of caves boring empty biomes that desperately need reworked, that would had been cool too… But instead it’s a literal wrestling ring to fight yet another raid boss.

Theres Series Burnout… and then there’s just bad decisions and disappointment.

i used to do burnout breaks but i now only play for a week or so out of a month(with the occasional extra sessions when people ping me to play) so i dont get worn out. i actually do this with a lot of the time-heavy games i play these days

I take breaks to let content pile up.

Its also often hard for me to get a regular multiplayer game going. So often, I'll just play singleplayer for quite awhile. Then there's a bunch of new stuff to experience as a group.

I'm looking forward to the endgame maybe going somewhere! I've always hoped for a definitive "you won" kind of marker in the game, especially with the challenge of keeping a multiplayer server going. It would be nice to have a real goal to strive for, instead of "just play one world forever" being the group "goal".

I don't play non-gacha games continuously. Life isn't long enough to have one main game throughout it.

I jump between games as I finish them. From time to time I might hop into a live-service game like DST or Grand Chase if I have some friends to play with, and then after a few months I move to other games and stay a few years away.

I just don't see the appeal of playing mostly one game, even if I get that there are people who enjoy that, it's just not for me.

I'm on a break right now, I'd at least wait until Webber's rework before I'd quit outright, but I put in thousands of hours already, and outside of skill trees, none of the new content excites me. although how many other games have playable spiders or pyromaniacs.

Puzzle games and card games are my favorite genres, and I'll often play whatever Nintendo makes.

For grindy/sandbox games like this I usually play and obsess over the game for 8 months, then never look at it again for another 8 months, only to come back either after the 8 month burnout has passed, or a big update comes out.

I quit when my only friend who I play with does so, I don't find it very fun to play solo though I still watch dst content. The issue we both have with dst is that it takes a lot of time to get to the fun part of the game

Just the mere thought of the entire lunar quest line scares me away from the game, lol.

Taking breaks is a pretty natural process to me. DST is my favorite game ever, but the idea of playing this game nonstop, for years on end, is something I couldn’t possibly imagine doing, especially as I’ve gotten older.

I would say my break lengths vary, but I’ve had them range from ~2 weeks to almost a year or so, usually considering between updates and/or when other games come out that interest me. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with it!
