The new beta added another boss (which is kind of the usual at this point), and honestly, I think it’s time we talk about how we keep getting these “challenging” bosses with underwhelming loot.

It’s pretty clear the current direction for DST is trying to lean more toward something like Terraria, and I really think that’s a mistake. At their core, these are very different games—built around different ideas and meant to be experienced in completely different ways.

Personally, I feel like every update since Wilson’s rework has been going against what made this game special in the first place. The Constant as a world could’ve gotten way more love—new biomes, a fresh look—because honestly, we’re still walking around on the same textures we saw back in 2013.

And yeah, I get it. It's probably easier for the devs to recycle bosses with forgettable drops and rework characters that have already been reworked. But man, it’s starting to feel like quantity over quality.

This probs should have been posted in the beta thread, given that you are referring to the new boss.

Not sure what you mean by underwhelming, personally. The only bosses I can consider that is the great depth worm, and that falls more in line with how the seasonal bosses work, and scrappy werepig, where that’s a fair case I’ll admit (might even be moreso because it gibbs nightmare werepig, which people actually like).

I think the thing is loot can be subjective to players. What might be seen as useless to one player is seen as a massive boon to another, which can be seen as underwhelming I suppose. I guess I don’t have too much issue with this, since loot being situational has been around since ROG and DST certainly has its fair share since ANR.

Regarding challenge, I personally have really liked DST’s bosses except the current iteration of the celestial scion (which just feels very wacky with balancing at the moment) and scrappy werepig. They’re pretty decent, honestly. The armored bearger/deerclops in particular is my favorite as of late for how rewarded you are for being extremely aggressive in exchange for much more risk.

I think overall I can see why you would be conflicted with that, but I personally don’t have significant issue with it. I get how it is different, of course.

I’m actually burned out with and effectively bored of DST, I only come on the forums to see how updates are going and if anything I actually care to take a deep dive back into playing the game again actually comes out.

And in the meantime while I pray for Klei to release something other than boss fights (at this point a new non-boss focused SW/Ham DLC for Solo DS would suffice…)

Ive been shifting my focus to other games and franchises- most namely: I bought a game called Dungeon & Gravestone, and THEN I bought its Sequel BQM (Block Quest Maker)

D&G is a randomly generated RogueLite Dungeon Explorer. BQM is a Build your own Dungeon Creative Mode.

Both of which: Allow me to do what I’ve been begging Klei to do with DST for fricking Years on end...

DST has a vast cast of playable characters with unique playstyles, and not all of those characters playstyles are all combat oriented.. we need some Sandboxy/exploring/dungeon raid type stuff…

Instead we consistently keep getting raid bosses.

I agree but my main problem has always been that boss loot should never "Break". Burnable yes, but outright break no. Celestial champion is a great example of "End of the game" loot that still has some quarks to it. It's so stupid.

it is true that there just more and more and MORE bosse every single update...the cave update thing wich not realy dit that much ADDED TWO BOSSE one of wich is not even part of the caves and is just realy badly designed especialy for newer players

He's not. He's referring to every single update the game has received for the past several years. The most recent update is an extremely small part of what he's referring to.

BQM (Block Quest Maker)

Unfortunately, Mike. DS won't even get the bug fix anytime soon. We can only wait for the 15th anniversary of the game for something, but for that we need to wait for 2028...

And DST needs a massive boss rework. There are so many of them, and their quality is so poor...They're just not interesting.

All I want is a survival incentive to kill these bosses. Loot that makes me "kill thing better" isn't interesting to me. Annoy me so if I want to live without the annoyance, I gotta go kill a boss.

More bosses like Antlion, Malbatross, and the deer clips. (Bearger you can just walk away)

Deer clips returns and breaks your base.

the rest you want to kill because they threaten you

If you walk away from deerclops he deloads, malbatross is easier to run away from than fight, and antlion is just annoying and not really threatening. The only boss you can't just walk away from without consequence is a boss that is currently standing really close to structures.

I personally love these types of updates. I have a world on day 500 and I love them constantly adding more stuff to do after beating the game. Plus, I think the end game loot they add is pretty fricken awesome like the polar bearger bin!

Deer clips respawns though

No he doesn't. If you walk away he deloads, not despawns. He'll be there until the beginning of spring. The only way he despawns is if his lust for destruction is sated and then he deloads, or it becomes spring. If he just deloads he stays there.

id honestly like more pre rift content
like way more
i think skill trees were a good thing to give those with mediocre kits more (Woodie, wilson, wormwood and eventually a few others)
the conclusion itself is satisfying but i just want more content thats just not attached to the rifts
now that the lunar quest storyline is finished and were probably finishing the shadow one soon idk where they will take the game next
im just hoping for a lot more pre rift content post "From beyond"
