geniunely what the hell is the point? the only thing in it is a boss that barely works, you can barely even fight normally and... thats bassicaly it.

the only other interesting thing is geo placement and the drying racks thing (if time permits????????)

so i ask, what is the point if its all incredibly unfinished content? what is the point of having a beta?

So that we can test all the unfinished content. A beta isn't supposed to be an update that you get to play early, it's meant to be testing for bugs and giving feedback. They are also going to be adding more to the boss fight later on in the beta, so there will be more to it soon.

Everything is still a WIP

To... collect feedback?

If you are not satisfied with the amount of content that a Beta provides, then wait for the full thing instead of complaining about a beta lacking content inside a beta build.

To progress the story and give more accessibility options to controller players!

:)

No siree, patience is a non-existent concept here.

To be fair, having something sparce yet never being touched again is a pattern, they even had us update the celestial station and it still has a tiny crafts list with no armor.

Bug tracking mostly. Example, for some reason the beta just, prevents you from completing a moon storm event. If you manage to finish containing a storm the game just crashes.

Also, they can still get feedback on the boss. Even though it's not fully finished, they can get general feedback, such as how expensive the fight is. How people react to Pearls home destroyed. If people like the celestial revenant fight.

Betas are the time for experimenting, there's been hundreds of scrapped ideas that have come from betas before. So the point is to see what players do and get their ideas and opinions on how it could be improved.

I imagine it’s so that they can test and change features in an *experimental* way.
As in: nothing about a beta is finalized and can receive major changes or even be scrapped entirely before its release.

On Xbox we have ENTIRE VIDEO GAMES THAT ARE SOLD LIKE THIS… with “Game Preview” purchases

But in general, a “Beta” is used to gather data and feedback on what is working, what isn’t working, and what needs tweaks before releasing to public.

For example: Im sure Klei is well aware that a lot of people hate that you need 1 extra shard two CC kills to summon the new boss, so I’m pretty confident Klei will tweak those numbers.

Im also pretty sure that after the amount of backlash they got from destroying and evicting pearls island, that they’ll likely scramble to revert that & probably even cater to peoples suggestions of building a new island just for the new boss.

presumably the next beta update will change up alot of things, this is essentially just a teaser now

exactly what i meant, it seems like i wasn't clear with that

...yes, but when said unfinished content is barely functional, what is the point?

i feel i have to clarify that i dont mean what is the point of having *A* beta, im only refering to THIS beta, due to how... unfinished and little things it has, i feel like the only reason it exists is because klei wanted to show that theyre ACTUALLY making something and not just.. laying around, because theres no way THIS is all they made in the past.. what? 3 months?

i do not mean this in a mean way, or to shame klei or anything like that, just wanted to share my opinion

It's different, but honestly preferred. Just speculating, but they probably don't want a repeat of the original Walter skill tree, which was a lot of development put into a product that the players didn't like (and ultimately got practically rebuilt, so there was a lot of time wasted). This way, sure the product is unfinished, but they get feedback as the thing is being developed, rather than after they put several hours into it.

Again, this is just speculation

What do you mean with barely functional?

Sure, the controller support isn't that functional, but the new geometric placement is perfectly functional and plenty of feedback was given for it.

The Gesture Wheel already got a feedback thread from active modders as well and it got direct dev responses, so this feedback was pretty important as well.

Out of the 3 most important parts of this update (controller support, gesture wheel and geometric placement), 2 already got their fair share of feedback... It's clearly working.

The pearl stuff also got plenty of feedback for the devs to work with,

There is plenty of very functional stuff in this update. It's just the controller support that still needs more work before actual meaningful feedback can be given, since the current implementation just isn't doing much.

thank you :) thats probably the case yeah! glad i could clarify what i meant, i apologize if my original post was worded a little rudely

i guess im just a little dissapointed that its been 3 months and this is all klei has.

They stated quite clearly that the purpose of releasing the beta early is to collect as much feedback on the quol features as possible.

where? can you provide said post? i didnt see anything like that

i mean things like the warbot missiles, the fact that ccs... second form? idk what to call it, new cc only has 1 phase and just kinda... respawns into phase 1 over and over without dropping anything

and yeah, pearl being moved also feels half baked to me, but it could just be me evidently
