Would you want Klei to put more effort into Don't Starve Together by releasing a DLC that reworks biomes, makes all items useful (like winter cloths), and improves the game similarly to how they did with Reign of Giants in the past or the way Uncompromised Mode does to DST?

Or for special advanced mode where all survivors are in rogue like adventure mode versus Charlie with tons of challanges (something like elden ring nightreign)

Since such major changes likely wouldn't come from regular updates, would you be willing to pay for it?

I think the main advantage of the DLC model would be being able to actually directly fund new content as opposed to content mainly being added as a vehicle to sell skins, but I think DLC might be a very risky thing which is why they haven't attemped it for DST

In a perfect world… DLC for DST would work like DLC for Minecraft does. Where only the host needs to actually OWN the content, and anyone can join rather they own the content themselves or not.

I absolutely love how I can just buy something like MinecraftXSonic, and then have all my friends be able to experience that with me.

Klei said that the reason they choose NOT to do paid DLC for DST was because they did not want to separate their playerbase between who has & does not have.

But then flash forward to today, and the player base is largely split between who has, and has not unlocked the powerful character affinities from killing the major bosses ONCE & Yes, A Willow or Wurt without Access to her Affinities will be significantly less powerful than one who’s unlocked them.

So if you want to get down right brutal:

Klei can’t possibly separate their fan base with DLC any further than they already have.

at the end of the day it's the matter of the price of said DLC. is it gonna be more expensive than regular DST? that'd play in many factors (especially with the cringe ass inflation and money exchange rate). y'all at america would have fun with DST costing bout 5 dollars or so but in Malaysia it's RM31 when it's not on sale.

DST costs 15$ when it isn’t on sale (for Xbox One) people playing on PC got copies of DST for Free.. lol.

I have, no joke spent hundreds of dollars just trying to buy this game for friends and family who I had hoped would play it with me.

Im pretty sure I’d be OKAY with paying 5-10$ for DLC expansions as long as they’re big and meaningful.

With that said: I’d like a Mighty Max Inspired DLC with gruesome looking gnarly enemies (aka the now cancelled Lunar Horror Mobs)

Klei got backlash when they implemented them into DST… but I don’t think they’d have such an issue if it had been paid DLC that the player opts into purchasing.

Kinda like how way back in 2009 there was Borderlands and then there was DLC for Borderlands the Zombie Island of Dr Ned.

They run into an issue with “Overseas” DST not being able to portray gore (skeletons etc) But, I’m assuming that if such a dlc wasn’t even purchaseable in those parts of the world- It would be a Non-Issue.

Im really curious though as to if overseas ever got the cool DLCs like Red Dead Redemptions Undead Nightmare, or the above mentioned Zombie Island- Which had a very lengthy “brain collecting” quest of gathering zombie brains from the enemies you scored critical head shots on..?

Don't really see how multiplayer would work here.

Make the servers use multiple shards like caves work now but for DLC it'll be Seaworthy or Maxwell door that'll take you to a loading screen and then you'll be in a separate shard that has Hamlet or Shipwrecked.

They said they won't do this because they don't want to split up the playerbase. How would it even work on Klei servers? Half the servers become DLC servers so you need to buy the DLC to join? None of them are DLC servers so nobody plays on them? The game's DLC is its characters and its skins.

I doubt, even if the poll gets 100% of positive votes, that klei would ever considered this (because for sure they had think about ways of monetizinf the game in the beginning).

A dlc requires more resources and time and cant be selled at a high cost while they have been releasing monthly updates until recently in company of skin packs that cost the same as a ~2 years of developing time dlc. They only need to catch few whales that buy every single skin pack to make it work way better than thousands of sells from a dlc

Also, with the current system, even if one update doesnt give enough money, they can try few weeks after with another skin pack. Is less risky than releasing a failure dlc

Considering that Xbox version does not and has never had them, I’m gonna safely assume that Klei servers are lowest priority.

And as well it SHOULD BE..

Comparing DST to Minecraft, you don’t see “Mojang Official Servers” that are or are not running DLC packs.

Xbox doesn't have anything so that isn't much of a comparison.

100% on board

But for the sake of multiplayer it would really need to be in the form of an expansion, and not piecemeal dlc

The alternative option would be adding a 3rd shard to current servers (ie overworld, the caves, and the DLC/expansion shard. Making it so you don't have to split the player base necessarily, but how would this impact the player base, TBD)

This would be pretty horrible for me. Even with only caves I get lag already, and that was me playing alone. If I want a completely zero lag game I need to play with the dst alone mod, but that mod still have kinks when it has to do with how time works between the surface and caves. A third shard will convince my pc to blow itself up.

If it were to add to my world gen settings and be public to all if wanted sure then why not?

Worlds reset often, people often play privately, if at least one person has the DLC it would still mean people paid for it and probably plenty.

If it comes with a skin bundle then I only see wins here for everyone.

Would probably not be feasible or required if Klei keeps pushing new cooler and more interesting skins out with content updates overall because it would not be required so that everyone would enjoy the game regardless.
