the dissenters were actually right, walter IS too strong now. he plunged an entire game forum for a third of a day!

Remember how the last update post folks were joking about Walter getting Wendy's skill tree, and then this one came around and Wendy's sister was briefly sacrificed?

It'll take more testing but this is possibly one of the biggest glowups ive seen for a skill tree. It doesn't need many more tweaks, if any, since my only concern now is the ammo and having those skills condensed so it feels less wasteful helps greatly

9.5/10, truly

I have to ask, because I am not entirely sure. Is averaging around 10 butterflies a day normal or bad when I am going for glossamer. I am trying to gauge the pricing of 3 for one bandage vs honey poultice which is the same healing. one per bandage is obviously insane, but I am nor sure what the norm is when it comes to farming butterflies, because where I am at it is 3 per day.

It varies based on the amount of players on the server sometimes you'll have way more sometimes you'll have less but at the end of the day 3 wings for 45 hp heal is pretty incredible not to mention all medicines not only have faster animations but heal 50% more hp when used by Walter himself.

Edit: the 45hp is due to the medicine buff being applied btw.

yup same as poultice which goes to 45 with the buff. it is pretty pretty incredible for Walter. I guess the difference in production is getting three per day over burning through all your monkey tails and reeds to make a bunch at once then waiting for them to regrow

This skill is such a banger for me, as I already tend to use healing items over foods.

This is like the opposite of the Wendy threads lol.

legit i was actually just thinking this. it feels like being in a wind-tunnel, there is way more air than you'd expect, almost like being able to take two breaths at a time with how buoyant things are! ... i must confess also i am seeing a lot of the more cheerful forumites posting which is making things -feel- really bright as well<3<3<3

It makes me look super negative by just putting satisfied lol.

haha, i am 500% ok with that sort of "negativity"

for sure though, i often find that i tend to rate artistic things more positively than the general vibe so it has been lowkey kind of wild to see others agree with me on something like this x''D

Probably a hot take but I do think Walter's tree is currently a bit much?

Walter's always been a Jack of All trades, but right now he's a bit overtuned.

He has some of the best mobility in the game for exploration, strong and unique combat, now has improved resource gathering, combat utility and that's not even mentioning his non-combat perks.

In addition, he has good accessibility all things considered, with earlygame and late game options for all his slingshot perks and Woby being available from the start.

There's nothing explicitly broken, just a bit too much of everything.

Yeah one of the things I wanted nerfed was his mobility, it makes all threats a few steps away to escape. Feels like you have godmode or something when combined with slingshot.

I wouldn't be opposed to some minor readjustments to make things cost a bit more, just so long as the basic structure remains there. 1 monster jerky could convert to 1 nonperishable treat instead of 2, for example. Walter could need to actually craft the portable drying racks instead of them just appearing on Woby when the skill is selected. Walter's healing item could cost more butterfly wings or could heal less than 45 a pop when combined with the general healing upgrade it gives. The portable campfire could have 20 uses instead of being infinitely renewable (don't tell Klei about this). And so on. I don't think people would object too much to some reasonable balancing.

I agree. Character balance isn't exclusively strength, it's strength + availability.

Walters tree is incredibly strong, and it's ridiculously available in its current state.

I think the only actual nerf to the potential of the tree I'd want is to have is to make Woby's max speed equal a rider beefalo instead of exceed it (Locking max ground travel speed behind a character sucks, looking at you WX).

having the portable campfire eventually expire is a reasonable ask for sure~

The speed is the thing I'd hate losing the most, though. I think it'd be fine as long as Walter couldn't turn 19 Woby hunger points into 56 nonperishable ones with that one skill. Just make it a 1 jerky:1 treat thing. That gives it enough cost to not be completely broken.
