at last.

This all began because in Reign of Giants, Bearger was the second most difficult boss for me to fight, barring Dragonfly, and I've held somewhat of a grudge ever since those days where not even throwing Rock Lobsters in my intentionally infested worlds worked (perhaps because i didn;t send enough in the first place)

Now though I am skilled at slaying bearger there's something quite cathartic about watching it become the own victim of its gluttony. So i challenged myself to feed it farm plants.

Also, I am half inspired by @Maxil20 and their shenanigans on their now day 20000 world. Though I dare not come close to equaling even a fraction of your greatness i hope this suffices lmao

So as we know I fed bearger around a hundred and twenty giant peppers. Easy breezy.

Then, i realized i had to take it further beyond. Durian is the eldest concept of a weed Don't Starve has as a whole. And it deals 3 damage. And compared to Potato, its the most comfy to farm with compost.

So i got to work. And after one failed attempt where i was 63 durians short I have finally triumphed.

In sum, that took :

  • 2000 durian items = 800 Giant Durians (just 740 is why i was 63 less due to RNG)
  • 80 farm plots
  • at least 1680 compost (and the 9 compost bins and the countless seeds and grass i sacrificed to their maws)
  • a one man band
  • i lost count of the hoes i used sorry
  • a whole spring to plant the durians and a whole summer to feed them to Bearger
  • at least 2 ice staves for fire suppression and controlling bearger

Now i'm thinking of the next insane thing to do in the game Do Not Starve Together. Until then!

Any advice on farming durian in bulk like this? I don't need enough to kill Bearger, but Woby eats durians just like she eats any other monster food.

if you are monocropping your only big concern should be nutrients. Thankfully enough, compost as mentioned the comfiest nutrient to farm with, and since durians grow in spring you'll have watering cut out for you.

you can skip one stage of fertilizing and still get giants at optimum conditions. (For this challenge i simply chose not to take any chances.)

If you are using hexagon layout, fertilize each farm tile with 4 compost in the first stage, and then 3 compost for the next two growth stages. Also, to prevent any over/underfertilizing, fertilize only when all crops in a plot have made it to the next stage.

The most durian you can feasibly plant at once is 160 before crops become unmangeable. Even so, for consistency and comfiness plant a batch of 80, tend to it, and then plant the next 80

If not monocropping then a 1:1:1 ratio of heavy consumers (Durian/Dragonfruit/Onion for instance) on 3x3 layout works just fine.

it took him nearly 20 days to eat all that stuff? seems unlikely

It took 15 days, yes. Not only is it 2000 durians that bearger has to chew through, there's this weird thing where after eating a few things bearger walks off into one specific direction before resuming eating.

Part of preparation is knowing which direction Bearger walks off to, as if the direction is towards the rest of the durians Bearger will walk into them and resume eating into the durians it just broke, ignoring all the ones already broken on the floor.

Thankfully, Bearger prioritizes crops and ignores seeds though i picked up all the seeds in advance anyway.

A wacky achievement like this one certainly isn’t a small feat! It’s neat to see people do methods you can pretty confidently say no one has ever done before in this game : P

Proud to see you be inspired by my Slight Madness, I wish you luck on future endeavors!
