What Direction do You Believe Dst Should go in?

So you'd rather just want beefs died forever?

No,i never said we should implement total extinction for a creature, what i meant was that their growth should be tied to ingame reasons.
You would only find massive herds of beefalos if there were massive savannah fields with lots of grass.

World regrowth would eventually add extinct creatures back in the world somewhere, but if they never find a suitable place for survival (which the player might be able to provide for them or destroy it for their own profit) they become a rare sight as they would be stuck in the cycle of dying off and being regenerated somewhere else based on world regrowth settings.

i would rather have them be fewer in number if there are not enough survival condition met for them than seeing them unfazed by everything happening to the world around them.
Obviously we would have to add new behavior for beefalos that would have them try to find these suitable places in the world in order to better survive the new requirements and even try to defend it by being a bit more territorial, but then again, if i had to go in detail for every creature it would take a quite a bit of time.

Different difficulty modes and rules for said modes that drastically shake the game to its very foundation.

Example: Lights Out Mode shouldn’t have characters with 2 Day Dwarf Stars, Portable Spotlights and Infinity Night Vision.

Players playing on “Easy Mode” with reduced damage shouldn’t also still have to fight a 27,500 hp raid boss or a Worm that leaves them limping away at 1% hp.

Players playing on “Hardcore” shouldn’t have (see currently broken OP Wendy AFK Simulator) and should have some actual harsher downsides that actually matter.

Reworked old biomes, brand new biomes, new world Gen settings like Archipelago.

When you play Lego Fortnite on Hardcore settings it locks that game save file from being able to edit settings (lowering difficulty, disabling mobs or mob behaviors etc)

I expect nothing less from DST…

But oh would you look at that? I can toggle on Midsummers Cawnival in a lights out world and have cheap infinity light sources.

As much talk as these forums whine about “Redesign Wendys Skill Tree” Klei needs to instead redesign the game and it’s difficulty modes and game modes.

these sorta goes into the territory of challenge mode, maybe klei can make these.

but yeah dst is really lacking in the survival department imo, played uncomp and it feels nice that the world can actually kill you rather than the bosses

I kinda want more reasons to not base sit than to base sit.

multiplayer is always at its peak when stuff goes of wack

Looking at the current situation, my evaluation is DST2. In this way, there is no need to transform the old map, the content is brand-new. However, Clay gave up the ip not to starve to death in order to provide for his old age.

When the game changes too much, it will be about the same time as making a new game three or four years later. Klei will be updated, skin will be updated, and time will verify this.

Many years later, when people think about DST, or klei, they once developed a great game, but after being acquired by Tencent, they began to retire and gave up not to starve to death of this ip, bad update content, a few years of slow progress on the mainline, yes, as long as you update the skin, you can get the dlc income of ds, it's too easy, go on like this until it's infamous, until people criticize the game. Until people start to leave.

I don't know if the translator app is clear what I mean, probably attacking kle

I want my base to be destroyed seasonally and I want all the characters to receive massive nerfs

I think this in general is a very complicated question, and not one that has one definitive answer, especially given the (serious) replies here already.

I think it will certainly vary depending on the person. Given my background, I would personally like more luxuries that help with the various grinds of endgame. The most notable for me a universal teleport option post rifts. So many characters are handicapped because movement later on is very limited, especially in the caves, and I feel having an expensive lategame option would be really nice while not compromising the various niches of the existing teleporting characters (Wanda being able to precision warp with inventory items, Winona being able to mass transport items, and Wortox being able to precision teleport literally anywhere).

I also feel a bit of polish/cleanup would be good for early 2025. Depths of duplicity sadly wasn’t the most stable thing ever, and there’s still a good chunk of oversights/technical issues from the past updates, and especially things like the great depths worm not spawning and/or having a very inconsistent spawn pattern compared to every other boss in the game. I feel working on that before moving forward would be a good idea.

What I personally would want is more islands on the “outer” map or new cave biomes that host unique challenges/rewards. Moon quay was a really cool example with the unique curse mechanics and rewards, and I wish they did that more often. I feel it’s the best direction they can go on that doesn’t warp the main island experience (not saying they can’t do that, just that I feel the changes would be more well received)

i think it mainly needs more content after year 1, but not optional content like bosses/caves/rifts. after the first summer (and i guess bearger?) dst doesnt really throw anything new at you, and there is never a threat of dying, and even if you do die, you can easily revive with a life giving amulet.

if there were new weather events and monsters and new threats and things to worry about in year 2, i can at least pretend that the game is still difficult. there isn't much reason for people who play dst for survival to play after it stops creating new events. they havent added anything new since reign of giants so i highly doubt they will add anything here, though.

According to steamchart, the highest peak of total players playing was in May 2023 which was around 115K with average players of 36K. This was after rift content released if I am correct then they total players dropped since people usually come play DST starting on November until April. November 2017 and November 2021 were good years when AFW and CC questlines were already fully released. So maybe in early of 2026, they would start working for continuation of more rift contents. Somewhere in between 2025, they might add something as well as 6 skill trees left (excluding Wes'). For that "something", I think they should work more with Scrapbook and in-game clues to help new players dealing with The Constant so people can skip meta knowledge to enjoy all contents. They need to work something out for the first 1-3 hours of playing the game and try to make the game enjoyable as much as possible within 127 hours of gameplay. Otherwise, games which heavily relied on meta knowledge would get left behind and soon 2025 would be another good year for upcoming games/DLCs. Still who knows? Maybe following Terraria's step of development works too but that game is about fighting bosses so we'll see where DST would be with its philosophy of surviving and exploring to solve mysteries because I've seen no final boss yet. I mean more than 20M copies sold in total from 2014/2016 until 2024 is already good feat by itself in the industry and also the average concurrent players has tripled to 30K since I started play this game in November 2019 so they can chill?

Hmm...

I think the overworld and ocean are in good state. Adding in a real pig city might be nice or developing the pig king "village."

Pre-rift caves are pretty dire. I wouldn't mind seeing something there.

Post-rift overworld could use one or two more mobs. Also lunar rain change, I don't really mind that as it is though. But overworld feels like it's lacking something.

Something for post-rift summer. Wait, do the caves count as that?

These are mostly minor things, I think the current state is OK.

they are going to continue with skilltrees for maybe one or two more years and then will come the skilltree reworks. Mark my words.

I'd be genuinely impressed if DST still gets regular updates in 2 years.

I think they should keep expanding the world, like they did in From Beyond. Maybe some new major locations similar to the Lunar Islands or the Moon Quay. Also I think the caves are a tad overdue for some new content

Oh didn't see this post yet. Well what @mkemal23 and @-Variant said.

Since it seems we are "okay" with making characters deities, can the enemies we face be equally overpowered since apparently nerfing is illegal. Just something to make death an actual issue again outside of "can't dodge big boss, tank up and bring healing"

Impossible at this point because of "erm, my base that covers half of the map is destroyed because of the recent update that brought something I can't control."

Yeah. But well... in a perfect world it shouldn't be a problem :apathy: Klei would understand the stakes of their ideas, and more players would accept to make compromises without wetting their pants for once. I'm megabasing on a fair share of my worlds and yet I can accept a lot of things happening to constructions (even more when it's outside of them, yes)

Not everything mind you. Like I was very displeased about the introduction of Brightshades because they were forbidding decorating with bushes and such. If I wanted to play with rift content I had to accept that planty plenty of my decoration designs would no longer be possible. Things that I gave as much function as a skin would constantly attract a group of super powerful enemies and... they never got a world setting added to them ?

I don't recall how many years we waited before the Embalming Spritz was added to fix the mess (felt like 3 years at least), but I don't think it's normal that Klei remained motionless on this without offering even a temp solution if it wasn't for modding them out after enough were killed to use the content. And I don't even dislike Brightshades, I would even ask that they can target more plants if the spawnrate becomes tweakable, but preventing players of decorating was just silly as it's completely aside of the survival nature of the game and no player mistakes are involved. Only mistake was the lack of reflection and action taken by the developers.

I pardon that naturally because it's hard to think of everything for everyone, but it was a fat thorn in the butt that we warned about countless times.

Maybe klei should pay attention to the dissatisfaction of Chinese players with the update. If you look at the recent video, you can see thousands of comments attacking klei, klei. Do you think the current update is very popular? Still immersed in false praise from English players, doesn't klei have Chinese employees? You can learn about it. I did it only to raise the importance of not starving to death. "klei, wake up!"

English players are always satisfied here, I have to remind you.

at what point should klei just throw the game away and only work on other projects? the first one complains that wendy still has to deal with the monkey curse like all the other survivours, the middle one lies outright about what the other two get while pretending she is identical to her pre-skilltree self and the last one complains that you still have to actually play the game to beat one of the hardest seasonal bosses in the game

people are complaining that they have to play dst.these complaints are actually embarrassing. if i was the father of any of these posters i would pretend i have no children when my relatives asked.

我是说不满的评论很多,截图中恰好有部分是对温蒂的不满,我要每条都发出来吗?

I mean, there are a lot of disgruntled comments, and some of the screenshots happen to be dissatisfied with Wendy. Should I post every one?

截图你看不清楚的,我都没截清楚,而且图中并没有关于解决猴子诅咒,你的中文翻译app也不对,大部分内容是错误。

Screenshot you can not see clearly, I did not take a clear screenshot, and the picture is not about solving the monkey curse, your Chinese translation app is also wrong, most of the content is wrong.

no, i don't care about wendy i care about dst. i dont want to get into a fight with people who clearly don't care about dst they only care about wendy. it would waste time and add to the unwanted clutter in the forums to argue with someone who will never be satisfied with what i have to say. it is just as wasteful for someone to try and convince me to agree with something that goes against my principals as someone who has helped make videogames and am personally invested in videogames and who specifically loves this particular videogame. we are not looking at the same thing when we are talking about this game and if we are not looking at the same thing we will not come to a satisfactory agreement

i only commented at all because people who cannot read chinese won't know the difference between honest criticism and dishonest complaining that is presented as honest criticism. i also ran each image through two different translators as well to make sure i was not wrong. my interpretation plus the interpretation of both translators makes me feel mostly confident on what was said. the only difference was google specifically put emphasis on bananas, aside from that it was 8 agreements and one disagreement on the translations.

Wished our comunication with chinese players could be better, i genuinely can't tell when someone is insulting or trying just express themselves anymore... That said i wished Klei expanded the game content (ocean and caves in particular) and reworked the older systems, or adjust things like the food values especially the healing tab that is useless since the crockpot is a healing boom for anything, spider lag, biomes overlapping in bizzare ways or simply worldgen in general. Early game feels really dragged on and skilltrees are not the way to fix that imo. DST was meant to be a survival game as far as series go, but it's losing it's identity...

I just want all characters to have progression/quality of life features evened out
and more post-rift content

I hope current one is merely beginning for something SO complex that using gloomerang/shadow maul would feel justified
