I don’t see why it would hurt? I mean I myself really dislike the design and functionality of the Knabsack

here’s a cool idea: Since Wortox has a “naughty & nice” skill tree maybe his unique toys can have different effects depending on which side you invest more into?

Aka Knabsacker on the “nice” side can be used to carry items inside (foods, resources)

And on Naughty it can be used as a melee weapon or a tool to kidnap mobs in the constant.

Just because people aren’t talking about Wortox’s skill tree nearly as much as Wendys or Walters does not mean there’s no room for further improvements.

People are, at least compared to Walter. It's nice to know if we're wasting our time or not.

I'll see what the hotfix notes are tomorrow and see if it's just "Wendy's Beta" at this point

are you obtuse on purpose

No. But I am good at knowing when things gonna go downhill (as well as predicted some things before), so yeah. Trust Wilson gaming. :wilson_wink:

No.

…so they can search for bugs and recreate them and do their best to fix them, as well as making better, fleshed out content with minimal bugs - maybe even holding out beta for more than a month to make sure everything goes smoothly.

Apart from the console experience being compromised from it, I really wish they adjusted to a new reign format where the updates came out in parts, but would update the beta branch monthly with new pieces of content until there was enough there to release the content in a large “major” update.

I feel this works best because Klei does rely heavily on players playing their betas both for feedback and bug fixing, and I genuinely think a 3 month window has negatively impacted this, and a 6 month one without major changes would be even worse for this case, which is why I feel ANR handled it the “best” way. Again, the only issue is consoles are kinda screwed in this method, which I do feel is noteworthy enough to keep in mind unless making a “beta” branch for consoles is realistic (I know MC Bedrock has this, though I am not sure how hard it is to perform a feat like that).

How about put Wortox's skill tree into game first?

We considered various approaches, but any approach would mean time being spent to split from the beta version which would ultimately mean a longer time before we were able to bring everything to the live version of the game.

I wanna ask, but will this festive update also apply to the beta, similar to how Warly’s character update applied to both the basegame and the old ROT turn of tides patch?

That's a solid maybe. It depends on some things that I can't say for sure. But if we did it wouldn't happen right away because we would have to bring it back to the beta from live. But if people are interested in it - we'll see what we can do.

I do really want to echo the point that a number of people are trying to provide Wortox feedback in a calm and respectful way, but it is immediately getting stomped on by piles of requests for another character that are often not being done in that same way and are flooding the forum.

The requests are pretty minimal, so it would be pretty disheartening if so much extra time is devoted to this other character because of the questionable way that they acted, and these small Wortox updates are not worked at all.  It would be a pretty bad feel if these fixes would have been implemented if people just spammed the forum about Wortox and asked for a lot of unreasonable things in the same way.

The initial post here seems to imply that Wortox will not be getting any of this additional focus time (apologies if that is incorrect, or if all of this feedback is already implemented for the hotfix).

Specifically drawing attention to the three posts below that went out of their way to give friendly and helpful feedback (while also keeping it minimal and balanced):

Highlights include:

-knabsack usability, functionality, and vfx updates

-soul damage tweaks

-skill merging/adjustments

-bad feel of being locked into very specific gear combos for affinity bonuses removing late game fun of using different gear for different things

-beefalo soul hopping

no wortox? was all the suggestions i and others have said for naught?

about the knapsack? about the locks? about new nice/naughty idle animations? and other things too?

I highly doubt Wortox gets no changes from here. We'll probably see a couple concerning his naughty/nice balance and knabsack (just based on what I see people talking about the most) in tomorrow's hotfix. Probably at least some changes in January, I think they're just mentioning Wendy and Walter more because they're both way more controversial in their design than Wortox right now so they want to reassure the people about them.

funny is it not? how wortox is portrait as this mischievous silly imp guy while the players that talk about him are nice and calm

i add my wortox thread to it aswell that alsol talks about the knapsack, and suggestions about the locks being a bit lowered to allow more freedom, aswell as some other smaller "cosmetic" changes including the shadow reaper having unique "voice" lines if held by wortos and nice/naugthy idle animation with art of mine as best as i could to like show how i mean how it could look like for extra flavour

I can see that, I believe it was the same case for Warly back in the beta as well where there was a few days of delay between him being in the main branch and him being in the beta one.

I primarily say it since I like moving my world from main to the beta branch (with proper precautions, of course!) to test out the various content and get a feel for it/give feedback and the like before it goes live, and normally this goes well as there isn’t serious issues moving my world back from the beta branch to the main one (again, with proper precautions). Since the branch is going to be here longer and I imagine moving my world back from beta to main is probably not a very good idea, it would be a bit unfortunate to miss out on the seasonal event.

Of course, I do understand that things like that will eat up the already limited dev time, so I do understand if it’s not an immediate priority, it would just be neat.

Not necessarily. I believe there are things still happening there, but I don't want to overrepresent what's planned and I don't want to commit to anything that's still being ironed out. I know there is some controller support work to be done, but it's still being worked out so I can't really say much more.

Please remain open to Wortox feedback. Just because people are overall pretty satisfied with his skill tree doesn't mean it can't be improved. The main pain points I've seen on a recurring basis are naughty/nice inclinations, lunar/shadow affinities (no pre-rift applications + no visual feedback), and the Nabsack. I'm still not sure why Naughty was nerfed instead of Nice being improved.

Personally, I have the most issues with the Soul Jar, but it isn't really possible to be rebalanced at this point, if it hasn't been touched this whole time, despite not being the only person alarmed about it from the start. I think we've largely given up, though.

Thank you for being willing to delay the patch. I'd strongly prefer updates to out as strong as possible, because it can be pretty hard to make larger changes once pushed live. Quality is more important than anything.

Look I aint gonna lie, I have mixed feelings about this. In one hand I completely understand you all needing more time for more changes, considering the state of the forum I bet this update must have been quite stressful, also as a Walter main I LOVE what the team in charge of his skill tree did so far. And I sincerely hope that you all enjoy and have an awesome break/holiday.

But on the other hand, I would like to think that Walter/Woby will truly get some big tune-up on the skill tree and that he isn't being used here as kind of a scapegoat so this announcement isn't about just 1 character because of all the pressure. I would like to see some big changes on Woby, and not this being some "Wendy skill tree remake for the 3rd time... + 1 little perk for Woby".

No thanks, I'm so happy about its existence and I feel like an actual teleporter compared to Wanda and Winona now. Its nerfing/removal would just add more tedium to soul grinding, I'd rather keep doing it all at once and enjoy the satisfying flow of countless souls towards me with a good setup, rather than make multiple smaller setups around the map like before.

I'm sure they'll remain open to feedback, and I do agree with the other main complaints you bring up.

I sort of expected this to be a possibility, but I was doubtful there would actually be a delay. I hope it doesn't throw Klei's schedule for 2025 off the rails too hard.

Even if the update were to get some post update changes, I feel it would not be enough to satisfy everyone that expressed their discontent in these weeks of the beta, so the delay is probably for the best. Thank you for your dedication and hard work, and please have some relaxed holidays and clear all the stress that might have accumulated.

A small thing to note, when a formula is shown to produce successful results, you will see people repeat the same formula looking for the same success. Just look at Pokemon and Nintendo, and all their imitators.

Regardless, I look forward to whatever Klei end up cooking :wilson_love:

Preemtive Very Merry Winter Feast!

They already said before that they were planning on releasing the update before Christmas and making the bigger changes to Woby after the break

big power move to delay for the sake of quality :applouse:

also when is Klei's holidays over in January? I wanna know for scheduling reasons pls

Different people are out at different times to accommodate. But we won't be at full capacity until the second week of January.

I'll let everybody know what to expect for update timing as soon as we know.
